1. MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE 1. MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA

PRODUCTS?PRODUCTS?

Ways in which our sequence looks similar to other superhero films within the genre are:

Characters- Main characters being teenagers demonstrated in Kick Ass, to gain a teenage audience.

Powers- Characters gain their powers through inheritance passed down in different generations of their family used in X -Men.

Editing & Ideas- We also used the theme of X- Men in using flashbacks to show when they first got their powers.

However our sequence looks different from other superhero films because of the:

Budget- Limited budget didn't allow use things that are present in most superhero movies such as costumes and different editing techniques.

Story line- went against original superhero films of the super hero being a superior male to make ours more appealing to all genders.

1. CONTINUED1. CONTINUEDWe have kept to the original conventions of the form of being a superhero movie because we didn't want to change it so much that the audience cannot relate to it as being a superhero movie, we wanted to give the audience something that they are used to, as if we changed it too much there is the risk that it wont go down well.

We have challenged the forms by the STORY LINE, It is not the usual “live happily ever after” type of superhero film that was created from fairy tales, and is demonstrated in nearly every super hero that we know of.

Example shown in Hancock- an untraditional superhero like ours but still ends with a happy ending;

2. SOCIAL GROUPS PRESENTED IN OUR 2. SOCIAL GROUPS PRESENTED IN OUR PRODUCTPRODUCT

-Featuring in our media product are teenagers, who have been represented by physical aspects ,such as; clothes, speech and the way their bedrooms are decorated etc. Adults have been also been represented physically in formal dress code, however emotionally through the way they act towards younger actors.

-Stereotypes shown through the main character a female being weak as there isn't a dominant, consistent male in her life (father), however slowly grows and becomes independent. The male (her father) is represented as being arrogant and over powering which is ironic as it leads to his defeat.

-Comparing our protagonist to Whitney a teenage girl in Eastenders (a TV drama) there is a complete difference, whitney became more independent when her dad left resulting in a stronger person however compared to our character Whitney she is very much

depressed for a while, and our character fits the stereotype more then Eastenders.

3. MEDIA INSTITUTION DISTRIBUTING YOUR 3. MEDIA INSTITUTION DISTRIBUTING YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT & WHY?MEDIA PRODUCT & WHY?

-Major Distributors would distribute our media product, as we are confident our product can gain a wider audience due to our non-typical superhero movie storyline giving it a unique selling point.

-Distributed in Britain only on a small scale, and depending upon success here then can be released globally.

- Putting it on the Internet or television first would give our product the advantage of opinions whether its good or not, however after being released wont generate as much money as it would if it wasn't distributed by other means first so cinemas first.

4.AUDIENCE4.AUDIENCEPsychographic audience ->

• Specifically for a more ‘drama’ orientated audience. As there will be a higher audience of those who are attracted to this genre, drawn to our film. Drama

specifically a sad melancholy type, as the story line fits a more depressive and emotive ideology. Plus it challenges conventional superhero films therefore will interest audience who prefer something different to see. Moreover the setting

being West Midlands, an element which will draw upon citizens in the area. Demographic audience ->

• As INHERITANCE feature a female protagonist it will attract more girls and women as they will be able to relate to the realistic elements of the film. Probably a more feminist based audience whom wants to see women take control. However it will

be essentially for a younger audience; 10-20 as it is regarding a school girl therefore will not draw the older audiences.

Secondary audience ->• Secondary audiences that branches out is also audiences drawn to sci-fi as it is

about a superhero; an unrealistic person. Moreover audiences watch superhero films as a sign of escapism; offering a release from reality. Superhero movies

promote the ideas of peace, safety and freedom. Therefore audiences attracted to these genres and interests will watch the film.

5.ATTRACTING THE AUDIENCE5.ATTRACTING THE AUDIENCE

Mise-en-scene -> • Costume & Colour : Our first scenes are initially in uniform as Cassandra is getting ready for school. As the movie continues

a flash back occurs, for this she is wearing darker colours (mustard, green and dark pink) as it enhances the tragic loss of her father. Cassandra wears a uniform to represent her age, plus after she wears a t-shirt and tracksuit as shows her informality/relaxing behaviour at home and the unexpected events that turned out.

• Props: Cassandra does not uses many props apart from the few make up items. Enhancing her female characteristics of dressing up and looking pretty.

• Setting: The setting of the 2min film takes place at Cassandra's house and outside in her garden. • Lighting: Pre-flashback is all conducted in high light and the flashback is carried out in low light. Elaborating the differences

in mood. • performance.Audience feedback ->• Through feedback from peers in class, we realised that the flashback needed to be more clearer. Therefore the feedback

was effective in helping us. Narrative theory ->• The use of flashback at the start of the film, was done intentionally as it provided the audience with the backdrop of the

story.• Plus the start is done in voice over despite 1st person, as it becomes a little more formal.

• Initially audiences are drawn by star cast, however being a low budgeted film this was not possible. Therefore this element can be considered to attract audiences. For example stating a ‘low budgeted film’.

• Having teenager actors in the film, will fundamentally draw in that type of audience. Moreover the realistic setting in the west midlands will drawn upon viewers from the areas too.

• We specifically constructed the sequel in a school to match upon the audience age and build a connection between the plot of the film to real life activities.

6.TECHNOLOGIES6.TECHNOLOGIES

The process from September to present date, a lot has been learnt using camera’s. • Using camera’s generally -> As we had a preliminary task, we used a different

camera therefore getting used to it. With where the ‘zoom’ button was and ‘on/off’ button.

• In front of camera -> We chose not to go in front of the camera for our movie. However in front of the camera it is defiantly difficult as nerves begin to kick in. Moreover then it left the camera work onto one person, without the input of the other.

• Mac/I movie editing -> Using Mac initially was tough as we had no idea where are of the controls where due to it not being a essential pc we use in our every day life. It took the whole process of editing the film sequence to get even a glimpse close to being confident using I movie. As we learnt how to shift music and speech and add effects in.

• Skills-> Observation of looking through the lens. Trying to get the rule of 1/3 right• Improve-> Shot types and zooms

7.PRELIMINARY TASK7.PRELIMINARY TASK• Learnt -> How to stand up and speak in front of the camera without any

prompts or sheets. • Planning with the film sequence was more better as we had everything

exactly planned out. • We have not improved our camera angles and shots. As a variation of

camera shots still could have been added. • Tripods -> Using tripods was really hard, as initially we started off with a

tripod that did not turn properly. Therefore our shots would come out shaking and not give a accurate picture.

• Positions -> Deciding these position, of 180° was the hardest in comparison to the rest of the task. since it was hard to decide where the camera should go.

• Editing and music -> Music was essential in our film sequence which was not that necessary in the preliminary task. Thus the music in the sequence gave it more of a ‘film’ feel and created suspense.
