Simple Present- Comum situations,

universal truths.

Present Continuous- Situations that are

happening now; temporary actions.

• I’m teaching John.

• I’m talking now.

• The man is going away.

Simple Present

Always, generally, never, often, frequently, once a week, seldom, rarely, sometimes, three times a year, twice a month, usually.

Present Continuous

At present, at the moment, now, today, this week.

Simple Present

I love cats. She loves cats.

I don’t love cats. She doesn’t love cats.

Do I love cats? Does she love cats.

Present Continuous

I am speaking.She is speaking.

I am not speaking. She is not speaking.

Am I speaking? Is she speaking?

Simple Present

She, he, it → s Verbs ending in S, SS,

CH, O, X e Z → es. Ex.: He watches a film.

Verbs ending in Y (antes consoante) → ies. Ex.: She cries.

Verbs ending in Y (antes vogal) → s. Ex.: She plays.

Present Continuous

Verbs ending in E → e goes out + ing. Ex.: I’m not smoking.

Verbs ending in EE → ing. Ex.: He’s agreeing.

Verbs ending in IE → ying. Ex.: She’s lying.

Verbs ending in Y → ing. Ex.: They are saying.

Verbs ending in CVC → double letter + ing. Ex.: We are cutting.

Exception:

dye → dyeing,

singe → singeing,

ski → skiing,

fix → fixing,

to age → ageing/aging,

to travel → traveling/travelling.
