OBJECTIVES
EDUCATIONAL AIMS OF PROGRAMME
The MSc in Computer Science is an advanced degree which aims to
develop specialist knowledge in areas of Computer Science not covered
extensively at the undergraduate level.
The primary aim of the theoretical modules is to introduce students to core
areas of theoretical computer science, to provide practical experience of
that theory and to introduce students to the technologies through which
theory-based tools are implemented.
The systems modules aim to give students experience of the theory and
practice of designing programmable systems, with particular emphasis on
the design of concurrent and distributed applications.
THE PRINCIPLE AIMS OF THE DEGREE
Develop graduates possessing a thorough understanding of one specialist area
of Computer Science
Equip students with advanced computer-based scientific and engineering skills
Provide a programme of study that benefits from our research strengths in
Computer Science
Enable students to develop communication skills, initiative, professionalism
and the ability to work independently as well as with others
Provide graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary for professional
careers or for postgraduate research.
METHODOLOGY
THEORETICAL FOUNDATION
Computer sciences lay the theoretical foundation for information and
computer systems as well as the application of those foundations.
Whereas the theoretical computer science focuses more on formal methods.
Such as algorithms and data structures, the applied computer science closes
a gap to other disciplines and offers solutions in areas such as artificial
intelligence or health systems.
This M.Sc. is different in that it focuses on teaching theory and its
applications.
Students are exposed to programming languages and platforms as well as
methodologies for the creation, capture and presentation of text, graphics,
audio and moving images.
ADVANTAGE OF M.SC COMPUTER SCIENCE
PROGRAMME OUTCOMES
The programme provides opportunities for learners to achieve the
following outcomes:
(a) Knowledge and understanding
Understand the process of building computational systems in all its stages and beable to demonstrate this understanding in supervised system building efforts
Have advanced knowledge of the state of the art in a CS research area. The exactspecialisms available vary over time, but generally fall in the areas of: theory, software engineering, high performance computing and databases.
Understand Informatics research methodologies at a level that permits the student toengage in future doctoral research
Know the main research methodologies used in Informatics
INTELLECTUAL SKILL
Develop literature review and analysis skills
Specify a research question and identify the relevant background literature
Graduates completing the MSc will be qualified to take up a strong
analytical role in assistive technology or software development teams
providing advice, guidance and planning for universal design and
accessibility.
Professional/subject/specific/practical skills
Develop project skills
Develop proposal writing skills
Undertake a substantive project (4-5 months) on the proposed topic
Write an extended research-style report

TRANSFERABLE SKILLS
Deploy logical, analytical, and problem solving skills and to synthesize
solutions
Show self-direction and time management skills when working
independently
Develop skills needed for undertaking extended projects, including reviews,
time management and extended reports
Communicate effectively through a variety of media including oral, visual,
written, diagrammatic and on-line
Make effective use of learning materials and to acquire and apply
knowledge from a variety of sources.
The ability to work effectively with people from different cultural contexts
The ability of working to strict deadlines and effective time management
MODE OF STUDY
PROJECT WORK
The types of activity involved in each project will vary but will include
most of the following:
Researching the literature and gathering background information.
Analysing requirements, comparing alternatives and specifying a solution.
Analysing and extending relevant theory in novel ways.
Designing and implementing the solution.
Experimenting with and evaluating the solution.
Discussing existing results and presenting new research.
Developing written and oral presentation skills.
The project is conducted individually by the student under the supervision of a member of teaching staff. Students are formed into groups for the purpose of a Review Meeting.
COURSE STRUCTURE
COURSE STRUCTURE
The programme for the degree of Master of Science in COMPUTERSCIENCE shall consist of two Academic years divided into four semesters. Each semester consist of 90 working days.
The course M.sc in Computer science is very popular amongst the newrising market and thus has plenty of jobs related to the field.
That is probably the reason that so many students are opting for thiscourse.
The huge numbers of private as well as government colleges are proof ofthe high demand of this course. The demand is high because the coursereally has a lot of career opportunities in this modern era.
educational paths to a computer career include majors in fields such asbusiness, mathematics and engineering with a minor or double major incomputer and information sciences.
PROGRAMEE STRUCUTE
The period of study for the degree is two year.
The emphasis in this course is on independent placement work.
educational paths to a computer career include majors in fields such as
business, mathematics and engineering with a minor or double major in
computer and information sciences.
MCA (VS) MSC
In the foreign countries post graduate degree only M.S (master of science)
not Master of computer Applications(MCA).so the M.sc computer science
is high eligible for foreign countries.
In M.C.A degree duration on 3 years the syllabus followed by implements
of Under graduate level.
The M.Sc computer science duration on 2 year and syllabus followed by
advance level of trends.
In MCA all allied subject based on UG syllabus
In MCA syllabus is prepared non computer science student easily pickup,
so the syllabus is beginners level only.
No of papers studied in MCA = 25
No of papers studied in MSC = 18
RESEARCH
provide the student with the basis of transferable knowledge and skills
necessary for a successful research-oriented career in industry or academia,
with a particular orientation to computing-based disciplines.
understand modes of communication in the computing sciences
appreciate the structure of the literature of the computing sciences ingeneral and a chosen research field in particular
methodically search the literature to investigate a research topic
make effective presentations both orally and in writing
OPPORTUNITIES
The field of Computer Science has a lot of applications in various areas of
work. Therefore various areas need the service of experts in the area of
Computer Science.
Almost every field is computerized now which improves the career aspects
of these graduates. Certain certifications will help them to work in several
job profiles as well.
They can do certain higher studies in the field that will perk up their
remuneration.
