11CHAPTER 1Installing SimDesigner for CATIA V5

1.3 Silent installation on WindowsInstallShield Silent allows automated electronic software distribution without any end-user intervention to provide input via dialog boxes.

The Response FileA normal, non-silent, installation receives the necessary input from you in the form of responses to dialog boxes. However, a silent installation does not prompt you for input but instead will read directives from the InstallShield Silent Response File (.iss file).

A response file contains information similar to that which you would enter as responses to dialog boxes when running a normal setup. InstallShield Silent reads the necessary input from the response file at run time.

You can create an InstallShield Silent Response File by running setup.exe and have InstallShield record and create the response file for you.

Recording a Response File for Silent InstallationsSimply run the setup with the Setup.exe -r command line parameter. InstallShield will record all your installation choices in Setup.iss and place the file in the Windows folder.

Alternatively you can run setup with the -f1 option to divert the response file to the location of your choice with the following command:

Setup.exe -r -f1"<fully qualified path>\YourResponseFile.iss"

Installation using Installshield SilentSetup.exe -s

Or use the -f1 switch so you can specify the name and location of the response file:

Setup.exe -s -f1"<fully qualified path>\YourResponseFile.iss"

Recording a Response File for Silent UninstallationsRun the setup after the product has been installed by using the Setup.exe -r command line parameter. InstallShield will record all your uninstallation choices in Setup.iss and place the file in the Windows folder.

Alternatively you can run setup with the -f1 option to divert the response file to the location of your choice with the following command:

Setup.exe -r -f1"<fully qualified path>\YourResponseFile.iss"

Note: Silent install will only work on machines with identical configurations.

Uninstallation using Installshield SilentTo Uninstall the product with out any user interaction, run the following command from the command prompt using the silent uninstallation response file:

Setup.exe /M{SimDesigner Product GUID} /s /f1"<fully qualified path>\YourResponseFile.iss"

Simple Silent UninstallationIf you do not want to follow the script logic and simply want to uninstall the product, you can use the following command line:

Setup.exe /M{SimDesigner Product GUID} /uninst

Note: The SimDesigner Product GUID can be obtained from within the response file recorded for the installation.

18CHAPTER 2Installing SimDesigner Suspension

2.2 Installing SD SuspensionYou can run two types of installations:

• Basic installation - Installs SD Suspension using a typical Windows installation program.

• Automatic installation - Automatically installs SD Suspension, using options defined in a configuration file.

For both types of installations, SD Suspension requires that ADAMS/Car 2003 Service Pack / APN-130-244 be installed on your system. If you have ADAMS/Car on your computer, the installation program indicates its location.

Running a Basic Installation

To install SD Suspension:

1. Insert the SD Suspension CD.

The installation program runs automatically.

If the installation program fails to run automatically, run the installation file in the root directory: SimDesignerSuspension2005r3_windows.exe

2. Follow the prompts provided to complete the installation. See below for information on each prompt.

The installer selects a .tmp directory in which to unpack files. To specify the directory yourself, call the installer with the command:

is : tempdir /tmp

For example:

SimDesignerSuspension2005r3.exe -is:tempdir /myTmpDir

License Agreement

You must accept the MSC licensing agreement to continue installing the software.

Welcome Screen

Provides information on what the installation program will do.

Note: On Windows, if you do not have ADAMS/Car installed, the installation program will install the required files.

19CHAPTER 2Installing SimDesigner Suspension

Uninstall Existing SD Suspension Versions (if detected)

If the installation program detects an existing installation, it gives you the option of removing it. It removes the current installation before continuing.

CATIA Installation Location

Prompts you to confirm the location of the CATIA installation. This is important if you have more than one installation of the same CATIA version on your computer.

ADAMS/Car Installation Location

The installation program displays the current installation of ADAMS/Car on your system. If the system detects no existing installation, it indicates the location where it will install ADAMS/Car.

Default Working Directory for SD Suspension

By default, SD Suspension uses the directory displayed for any temporary files, analysis files, and so on. SD Suspension creates a CATIA environment variable with the stored path.

SD Suspension License Path (node-locked license file or server address)

Lets you define the file or server from which SD Suspension will be licensed.

For a node-locked or floating license of SD Suspension, point to the server machine from which SD Suspension will obtain a license (for example, enter 1986@server_computer).

SD Suspension Shortcut on Desktop

Lets you create a shortcut to run SD Suspension on the desktop.

Installation Location for SD Suspension

Indicates the location on the hard disk where SD Suspension will be installed.

Note: The first time you run SD Suspension, it reads the default working directory from the CATIA environment and creates a CATIA settings file. After this, the CATIA environment variable for the default working directory is re-read only if no CATIA settings file exists.

Note: This does not configure the ADAMS/Car licensing if there is an existing installation of ADAMS/Car.

Page 20: SimDesigner for CATIA V5 - MSC Software Corporationweb.mscsoftware.com/support/prod_support/simdes/...the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 Release Guide for more information. • Licensing

20CHAPTER 2Installing SimDesigner Suspension

Installation summary

Lists a summary of what will be installed, where, and how much space it will require.

Finish

Once the installation is complete, the installation program displays a dialog box to confirm that the installation completed correctly.

Running an Automatic InstallationYou can install SD Suspension using a configuration file, without going through an interface. From a command prompt, specify the following:

D:\Bin\Tools\SDS\sds.exe -options "sdsInstallSettings.rsp" -silent

where:

• sdsInstallSettings.rsp - The configuration file that contains answers to the prompts you would encounter with the interface installation program.

Creating Log File

You can set a switch of -log@ALL to output a log of the installation program steps in the installation directory and any messages and warnings. For example, the following outputs a log file in the directory, install_dir, where you installed SD Suspension:

D:\Bin\Tools\SDS\sds.exe -options "sdsInstallSettings.rsp" -silent -log @ALL

A switch of –log !fullPathLogFile2.txt @ALL creates an additional log file at the specified location.

If an error or warning does occur in the log file, the log file indicates it with: ERROR or WARNING followed by a description of the error or warning. All log files contain a sentence describing the status of the installation at the end. The following shows the format of the possible sentences:

(time of completion), Install, SDS.StatusReportWizardAction

followed by one of the following lines depending on the success of the installation:

msg1, Installation was successful.

err, Installation failed due to error(s). For a complete listing of error(s), view SDSInstallDir\log.txt

wrn, Installation completed but there are X warning(s).

For example:

(Jan 01, 2004 1:30:15 PM), Install, SDS.StatusReportWizardAction, wrn, Installation completed but there are 2 warning(s)

Page 21: SimDesigner for CATIA V5 - MSC Software Corporationweb.mscsoftware.com/support/prod_support/simdes/...the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 Release Guide for more information. • Licensing

21CHAPTER 2Installing SimDesigner Suspension

Creating Template Response File

To create a template response file with no options set, execute the installation program as follows:

D:\Bin\Tools\SDS\sds.exe -options -options-template yourTemplateFileName.rsp

This will create a template file with none of the options set, so you’ll need to edit the file before it is useful. The installation program will not actually install anything with this option. You can edit the file using any text editor. Each option is described in the file.

Creating Input for a Response File

To record all of your input during an installation into a response file, execute the installation program in the following way:

D:\Bin\Tools\SDS\sds.exe -options-record yourRecordFileName.rsp

This will run the installation program and record all user input into a response file. No editing of this file is required after it has been created.

For an example of a silent installation response file, see sample_sdsInstallSettings.rsp.

22CHAPTER 2Installing SimDesigner Suspension

2.3 Modifying License SettingsDuring the installation, you may have set up the licensing for SD Suspension even before you received your license file from MSC. SD Suspension will only run once you have received your license file back from MSC.

You may need to update the license path for SD Suspension to point to a new server. To do this, you need to modify the CATIA environment variable, MSC_LICENSE_FILE, as explained below.

To modify the ADAMS/Car client settings, see Client Licensing for ADAMS/Car (page. 23).

To modify the system environment MSC_LICENSE_FILE:

1. From the Start button, point to Programs, point to CATIA_P3, point to Tools, and then select Environment Editor V5R14.

2. Select the MSC.SDS 2005r3.V5R14 environment.

3. Scroll down the list of variables until you see MSC_LICENSE_FILE. It is near the bottom of the list.

4. Right-click the value, and then select Edit Value.

5. Set Value to the license path to the licenser server (for example, 1986@my_server), and then select OK.

6. Exit the environment editor.

For an SD Suspension server configuration, see the server licensing for ADAMS/Car explained next.

23CHAPTER 2Installing SimDesigner Suspension

2.4 Licensing ADAMS/CarThe following sections briefly explain how to set up server and client licensing for ADAMS/Car. For more information, see the guide, Installing MSC.ADAMS on Windows.

• Server Licensing for ADAMS/Car (page. 23)

• Client Licensing for ADAMS/Car (page. 23)

Server Licensing for ADAMS/Car After requesting a license from MSC.Software, you will receive a password certificate (usually through e-mail). Save this file on the computer to be used as the server.

Currently, the server software is provided as part of the ADAMS/Car installation in SD Suspension. If you need to install a license server for ADAMS/Car or SD Suspension, you must install the entire product on the license server computer.

When ADAMS/Car is installed as part of the SD Suspension, shortcuts are made to configure the licensing of ADAMS/Car.

To configure the licensing on Windows:

1. From the Start menu, point to Programs, point to ADAMS 2003, point to License, and then select Server.

2. You will have the option of browsing your computer for the saved password certificate. This is the best way to set up the license server.

Once you have selected the password certificate, a license.dat file is created, and the license server starts.

Client Licensing for ADAMS/Car

To run ADAMS/Car on a Windows client machine:

1. From the Start menu, point to Programs, point to ADAMS 2003, point to License, and then select Client.

2. Specify the server name for the primary license server (do not worry about specifying the two backup servers).

24CHAPTER 2Installing SimDesigner Suspension

2.5 SDS Installation Program EffectsThis section lists the effects that running the installation program will have on the target system, in the order they occur.

Effects in Order

1. Displays the locations of existing installations. If any are selected, they are uninstalled by calling the old installation's uninstaller. A file named vpd.properties is also modified; this file is most likely in the system directory (for example, WINNT for Window 2000).

2. [Windows only] If there are multiple installations of CATIA B13, the user has the option to install SD Suspension for each installation.

3. After the user specifies the working directory, its location is stored in a CATIA environment variable named MSC_SDS_WORKING_DIR. It is not stored in the system environment.

4. If MSC.ADAMS 2003 is being installed, the MSC.ADAMS 2003 installer is called. Two arguments are given to the MSC.ADAMS 2003 installer: the installation directory (chosen by the user), and the value for MSC_LICENSE_FILE. These arguments are passed in through a file named sdsinput.txt, which is created in the user's temp directory.

5. All SD Suspension-specific files are unpacked into the installation directory as specified by the user. These files are the same on all installations, with the exception of those in the folders _jvm, <os>\_uninst and <os>\SDSCatEnv, all of which are created during the installation process.

6. Shortcuts to the SD Suspension environment, License Agreement, Release Notes, Tutorials, Uninstaller, and the User Guide are created.

7. Uninstaller is created and placed in the SDSinstallDir\<os>\_uninst folder.

8. The sdsinput.txt file mentioned in step 6 is deleted because it is no longer needed.

Note: In the following steps, depending on the platform, <os> stands for:

• Windows - intel_a

• IBM - aix_a

• HP11 - hpux_b

• Sun - solaris_a

25CHAPTER 2Installing SimDesigner Suspension

9. sdsSetcatenv.bat is created and stored in SDSinstallDir\<os>\SDSCatEnv. sdsSetcatenv.bat should contain something similar to:

"catiaPath/setcatenv.exe" -e nameOfSDSCatiaEnv -p "SDSPath;SDPath;catiaPath" -a global -desktop no

sdsSetcatenv.bat will contain the above line once for each installation of CATIA with which the user wants to run SD Suspension.

10. sdsChcatenv.bat is created and stored in SDSinstallDir\<os>\SDSCatEnv. Each CATIA environment variable is added by calling chcatenv as follows:

"catiaPath/chcatenv.exe" -e nameOfSDSCatiaEnv -a global -new -var VariableName=VariableValue

This is done for each of the variables (and their appropriate values) listed below:

FLEXLM_NO_CKOUT_INSTALL_LIC = 1 MDI_ACAR = "ADAMS 2003 directory\acar\" MDI_ACAR_LIB = "SDSinstallDir\intel_a\code\bin\tpl_view.dll" MDI_ACAR_SEARCH_PATH= "ADAMS 2003 directory\acar" MDI_ACAR_SRC = "ADAMS 2003 directory\acar" MDI_AVIEW_GRAPHICS = batch MDI_AVIEW_MESSAGES = "ADAMS 2003 directory\common\$MDI_CPU\aview.msg" V5I_HOME = SDSinstallDir MSC_NASTRAN_CM_LINE= SDSinstallDir\Nastran\bin\msc20045.exe MDI_AVIEW_SRCH_PATH= "ADAMS 2003 directory\aview\aview.pth" MDI_COPYRIGHT = DONE MDI_CPU = win32 or irix32 MDI_PRODUCT_NAME = acar MDI_PROGRESS_METER = FALSE MDI_SUBMODEL = 1 MDI_TEMPLATE_MODE = acar MSC_LIC_PREF = 1 MSC_LICENSE_FILE = Either the path\name of the license.dat file or the name of the license server. MSC_SDS_SOLVER_BAT_SCRIPT = "Adams 2003 directory\common\mdi.bat" MSC_SDS_WORKING_DIR= "NameOfTheWorkingDirectory" SDS_TOPDIR = "SDSinstallDir" SHORT_TOPDIR = short version of the ADAMS 2003 directory (for example, C:\PROGRA~1\MSC~1.ADA\) TOPDIR = ADAMS 2003 Directory\ (windows only)

sdsChcatenv.bat will contain the above lines for each installation of CATIA with which the user wants to run SDS.

26CHAPTER 2Installing SimDesigner Suspension

11. sdsSetcatenv.bat is executed.

12. sdsChCatenv.bat is executed.

13. The SD Suspension-specific CATIA environment file(s) is created with a name specified by the user. A shortcut to this environment will be placed on the desktop if the user specifies he/she wants to have a desktop icon. An individual icon will be created for every instance of CATIA for which SD Suspension is being installed.

14. Installation summary is displayed (from which the user can terminate the installation program).

* If either step 11 or 12 fail, users will have to manage the environment themselves. To assist the user, example environment files will be included in the SDSCatEnv directory:

.../SDSCatEnv/SDSExampleEnvUnix.txt

.../SDSCatEnv/SDSExampleEnvUnix.txt

The important feature of the CATIA environment file is that, at a minimum, it should contain the environment variables listed in step 10.

This appendix contains basic installation and configuration topics for the Gateway Analysis Manager (GAM) on Windows. This product is used for submitting analysis jobs in a batch mode directly from the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 environment to either a local or remote machine.

The standard installation of SimDesigner for CATIA V5 automatically installs, configures, and starts the GAM services for submission of batch jobs on the local machine. If GAM is to be used for remote submittals, it must be reconfigured and its services must be restarted. This is also necessary if additional analysis hosts or programs are to be added regardless of a local or remote submittal.

28APPENDIX AGateway Analysis Manager (GAM) on Windows

1.1 GAM Host Definitions• The Master host is the machine which continually runs the GAM service (called

MSCQueMgrSD). This is also referred to as the master node. This service schedules the all jobs.

• The Submit host is the machine from which the analysis is submitted, sometimes referred to as the client. This is the machine CATIA is running on.

• The Analysis host is the machine which actually executes the analysis.

For a standard installation, all three of these machines are the same machine. Below is an itemized list of installation requirements:

• The Queue Manager (MSCQueMgrSD) should run as a user or as administrator.

• Each machine (Submit and Analysis) must be reachable to and from the Master node via a TCP/IP network.

• Each Analysis host must have a Remote Manager (MSCRmtMgrSD) service running that uses the same port number. It is recommended that each Submit machine also run a RmtMgr service with the same port number, however this is not a strict requirement.

Each user wishing to use GAM should have the same login name, user and group ids on all hosts / nodes in the configuration. This will prevent file access problems.

TroubleshootingTo troubleshoot problems you should always first look for clues in the contents of files produced by any job submitted by GAM plus any files created by the analysis itself:

• jobname.stdout, jobname.stderr, jobname.tml and jobname.mon

• <install_dir>/p3manager_files/default/log/MSCQueMgrSD.log

• Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Event Viewer / Application Log and look at events of source MSCQueMgrSD and MSCRmtMgrSD

SimDesigner for CATIA V5 uses MSC.licensing (FLEXlm) to validate usage of it’s various component features - this section outlines FLEXlm licensing-related procedures that may be necessary to complete the installation of SimDesigner for CATIA V5.

As part of the installation, the product licenses that you obtain from MSC.Software Corporation are placed in a file called the License File. This file is located either on a FLEXlm License Server or locally.

When SimDesigner for CATIA V5 starts up, it looks in a configuration file to find out where to obtain it’s licensing information - the configuration file will point to one or more FLEXlm Server addresses and/or a physical license file location.

SimDesigner for CATIA V5 will then make a request to FLEXlm to validate usage for the particular machine it is running on.

3.3 Install SimDesigner for CATIA V5 licenses

Installing the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 licenses is simply a case of adding them to a license.dat file and pointing to it in the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 configuration file as described in Update the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 Configuration File (page. 48).

Edit the license.dat fileThe license.dat file may be on the FLEXlm server or located on your machine, either way you must have a FLEXlm server installed (see Install a FLEXlm server (page. 46)).

Edit the license.dat file and add the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 licenses. You can use LMTOOLS to find out the location of the license.dat file on a FLEXlm server (see LMTOOLS configuration utility (page. 47).

You may want to save a copy of the file before updating it.

If this is a new license.dat file, you will need to change the SERVER and DAEMON lines in the new license file otherwise use what is already in the file and just add the FEATURE lines. For example:

SERVER hostname hostid 1700DAEMON MSC /your_path/mscFEATURE V5i_Access MSC 2004.0531 29-apr-2004 etc...

Note: Although SimDesigner for CATIA V5 looks in the configuration file for the location of a FLEXlm license file, if the MSC_LICENSE_FILE system environment variable is defined it will override the configuration file and possibly prevent the product starting up - if this is the case, you will need to update the variable to point to the correct license (see Update the MSC_LICENSE_FILE System Variable (page. 49)).

45APPENDIX CProduct Licensing with FLEXlm on Windows

Re-read license fileIf you are updating a license.dat file on a FLEXlm server you need to refresh the file by using LMTOOLS to re-read the license.dat file and enable the new licenses.

If there is a problem with this, or if the licenses still do not appear to be available, restart the system.

Point SimDesigner for CATIA V5 to the license fileUpdate the configuration file as described in Update the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 Configuration File (page. 48). Note that although SimDesigner for CATIA V5 looks in the configuration file for the location of a FLEXlm license file, if the MSC_LICENSE_FILE system environment variable is defined it will override the configuration file and possibly prevent the product starting up - if this is the case, you will need to update the variable to point to the correct license (see Update the MSC_LICENSE_FILE System Variable (page. 49)).

3.6 Update the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 Configuration FileThe SimDesigner for CATIA V5 configuration file contains, amongst other things, the location of the license file - if you didn’t enter the license information during the install, or need to modify it later, you can manually edit the file:

<install_dir>\v5ienv\msc.v5r13.b13.txt

Edit the line:

MSC_LICENSE_FILE=port@hostname;c:\msc\flexlm\license.dat

You may enter either one or more FLEXlm server hostnames separated by a semicolon (for example 1700@hostname) or a license file location (such as c:\msc\flexlm\license.dat) or both. If you specify both, specify the hostname(s) first..

Important: You must specify any server hostnames before the license.dat file(s).

3.7 Update the MSC_LICENSE_FILE System VariableAlthough SimDesigner for CATIA V5 looks in the configuration file for the location of a FLEXlm license file, if the MSC_LICENSE_FILE system environment variable is defined it will override the configuration file and possibly prevent the product starting up.

If this is the case, go to the Windows Control Panel, select System/Advanced/Environment Variables... and look for MSC_LICENSE_FILE.

The variable may contain other MSC.Software licensing information - edit it and add the location of the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 license (either a server such as 1700@bari or a location such as c:\msc\flexlm\license.dat).

Remember to separate entries with a semi-colon and to specify hostname locations first.

• Nodelocked - Allows use of SimDesigner for CATIA V5 only on a specifically named machine.

This is an example of a nodelocked license file:

SERVER hostname hostid 1700DAEMON MSC /your_path/mscFEATURE V5i_Access MSC 2004.0531 29-apr-2004 8 4CFEF76D59E040FC1343 \HOSTID=23456789 asset_info="10081+10084 AP209 Gateway (GWS)" \ISSUED=29-apr-2003 ck=54 SN=1324476-7b13e038600a2cfcb952FEATURE CA_Gen_NASTRAN MSC 2004.0531 29-apr-2004 1 \0CCEA79DA1987474CE48 HOSTID=23456789 \asset_info="10081+10054+1003 MSC.Nastran Generative (GPN)" \ISSUED=29-apr-2003 ck=48 SN=985526-7cfae6677b9688d67940

• Concurrent - Allows multiple uses of SimDesigner for CATIA V5 according to the number of licenses purchased.

This is an example of a concurrent license file:

SERVER hostname hostid 1700DAEMON MSC /your_path/mscFEATURE V5i_Access MSC 2004.0531 29-apr-2004 16 CC3E474D769449F91144 \asset_info="10081+10084 AP209 Gateway (GWS)" \ISSUED=29-apr-2003 ck=96 SN=1324476-57778154941b2cfc1719FEATURE CA_Gen_NASTRAN MSC 2004.0531 29-apr-2004 2 \9C6EA7FD88D85842DEFB asset_info="10081+10054+1003 MSC.Nastran \Generative (GPN)" ISSUED=29-apr-2003 ck=167 \SN=985526-5a231d9776d588d6df96

Because MSC.Software only issue counted licenses, both Nodelocked and Concurrent licenses require a FLEXlm server. See Install a FLEXlm server (page. 46).

SimDesigner for CATIA V5 uses FLEXlm to validate usage of it’s various component features - this section outlines FLEXlm licensing-related procedures that may be necessary to complete the installation of SimDesigner for CATIA V5.

4.3 Install SimDesigner for CATIA V5 licenses

Installing the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 licenses is simply a case of adding them to a license.dat file and pointing to it in the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 configuration file as described in Update the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 Configuration File (page. 58).

Edit the license.dat fileThe license.dat file may be on the FLEXlm server or located on your machine, either way you must have a FLEXlm server installed (see Install a FLEXlm server (page. 56)).

Edit the license.dat file and add the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 licenses. You can use LMTOOLS to find out the location of the license.dat file on a FLEXlm server (see Unload FLEXlm server and utilities (page. 57).

Replace license fileRename the existing license.dat file to license_old.dat, and rename the new file to the current license file name (i.e. OLFHQVH GDW):

mv license.dat license_old.datmv license_new.dat license.dat

Force FLEXlm daemon to read new license fileUse the lmreread command to cause the lmgrd daemon to reset using the new license file.

<install_dir>/lmutil lmreread -c <path>/license.dat

You should now be able to run SimDesigner for CATIA V5 products using the new licenses. If for some reason this fails, kill and restart the daemons as follows.

Note: Although SimDesigner for CATIA V5 looks in the configuration file for the location of a FLEXlm license file, if the MSC_LICENSE_FILE system environment variable is defined it will override the configuration file and possibly prevent the product starting up - if this is the case, you will need to update the variable to point to the correct license.

4.6 Update the SimDesigner for CATIA V5 Configuration FileThe SimDesigner for CATIA V5 configuration file contains, amongst other things, the location of the license file - if you didn’t enter the license information during the install, or need to modify it later, you can manually edit the file:

<install_dir>/v5ienv/msc.v5r13.b13.txt

Edit the line:

MSC_LICENSE_FILE=port@hostname;msc/flexlm/license.dat

You may enter either one or more FLEXlm server hostnames separated by a semicolon (for example 1700@hostname) or a license file location (such as c:\msc\flexlm\license.dat) or both. If you specify both, specify the hostname(s) first.

Important: You must specify any server hostnames before the license.dat file(s).
