Nate was most noted for his athletic abilities and leadership qualities on and off the field. In short, Nate was the type of teammate that coaches hope for each year. Nathan lived life to the fullest and believed participating in sports was an important part of growing up. To honor Nate’s passion for life and love of sports, the foundation was established to support community sports programs in need within Northern Chautauqua County and encourage continued education by awarding annual scholarships to local college bound athletes. The Foundation raises funds through the Annual Nathan George Memorial Co-ed Softball Classic held in Dunkirk the 2nd weekend in August. The Nathan George Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female athlete in good academic standing who exemplifies strong leadership abilities, good sportsmanship and is actively involved in school organizations and community. Therefore, in June the Board of Education and administrative staff worked to create areas of focus for the 2015-2016 school year. Below are the District Goals, which reflect the areas of focus for the upcoming school year:

1. The graduation rate, both District and High School, will increase by 3% from June 2015 to June 2016.

2. Character Education programs will continue to be infused into the culture and climate of the District as measured by student achievement and social achievement indicators.

3. The District will create additional ways to engage families in the school community. Please know that our priority is to continue to build positive relationships with the students and families of the Silver Creek community. Your collaboration is crucial to our continued improvement as a school community. We hope you and your children have a wonderful and relaxing summer vacation. Sincerely, The Administrative Team

The New York State School Report for the 2013-2014 school year was recently released by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Silver Creek Central School District Schools are considered to be in “good standing”. Our students have made satisfactory progress toward the goal of proficiency. In grades three through eight, student performance is measured on a four-level scoring scale. At the high school level, results of Regents Examinations determine the degree of academic success. The chart on page 13 indicates areas of proficiency for the 2013-2014 school year. Check marks mean the District has met AYP in the given area, while an “x” indicates proficiency has not been met in a given area. Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) indicates adequate yearly progress toward the goal of proficiency for students in a particular sub-group by comparing the percentage of students tested and performance of tested students against NYS defined standards. dents in the 12th Annual Computer Science Competition. The Carrier Center and Hewes Center Quiz Bowl teams were locked in a close competition that was not decided until the final question. In the end, the Carrier Center team edged the Hewes Center team by a score of 60 – 55.

The Quiz Bowl contest features teams of three students answering general knowledge questions on topics related to computers and computer science. The questions involve both mental calculations and reasoning.

Students participating were: Brytani Hutchinson (North Collins), Hannah Cotter (Silver Creek), and Jacob Myers (Silver Creek) who are first year students in the Carrier Center Information Technology program. Mr. Greg Cole is the Instructor for the team.
