John McAlevey ~ Valedictorian John (Jack) McAlevey is the son of Amy O’Connell and John McAlevey.
Throughout high school, he has participated as part of the Cross Country
and Track teams. He has also sung in the high school chorus and played the
tenor saxophone in the senior concert and jazz bands, as well as the
all-county concert and jazz bands and the area all-state concert band.
After school, Jack has been a part of numerous clubs such as Natural
Helpers, Ski Club , and Big Buddy, while also holding leadership positions in
National Honor Society and Key Club. He received a letter of commendation
in the National Merit Scholarship Competition, and was named as part of
Business First’s First team of seniors in Western New York.
Next year, Jack will attend SUNY Geneseo as part of the Honors program
there, majoring in biochemistry, with plans to eventually become a doctor.
Carl Cotroneo ~ Salutatorian
I am Carl Cotroneo, son of Carl Vincent Cotroneo and Jackie Cotroneo.
During my time in Silver Creek High School, I was part of the Key Club,
served as treasurer for the National Honor Society, Captain of the Quiz Bowl
team, part of the Jazz Band and the treasurer of the Senior High Band. I ran
cross country in my senior year, was part of the sectional winning bowling
team since seventh grade, and ran varsity track for three years.
Outside of school I was on a Saturday morning bowling league for over ten
years. I also received piano lessons since I was five years old, and I
continue to run when time is provided.
I will be attending Syracuse University in the fall. I was accepted into the
Rene Crown Honors College and will be part of the pre-law program with a
major in political science. After college, I plan to attend law school.
I would like to thank all the teachers at Silver Creek along with the
administrative staff, and most of all my parents and my sister for always
pushing me to do my best.

Nate was most noted for his athletic abilities and leadership qualities on and off the field. In short, Nate was the type of teammate that coaches hope for each year. Nathan lived life to the fullest and believed participating in sports was an important part of growing up. To honor Nate’s passion for life and love of sports, the foundation was established to support community sports programs in need within Northern Chautauqua County and encourage continued education by awarding annual scholarships to local college bound athletes. The Foundation raises funds through the Annual Nathan George Memorial Co-ed Softball Classic held in Dunkirk the 2nd weekend in August. The New York State School Report for the 2013-2014 school year was recently released by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Silver Creek Central School District Schools are considered to be in “good standing”. Our students have made satisfactory progress toward the goal of proficiency. In grades three through eight, student performance is measured on a four-level scoring scale. At the high school level, results of Regents Examinations determine the degree of academic success. The chart on page 13 indicates areas of proficiency for the 2013-2014 school year. Check marks mean the District has met AYP in the given area, while an “x” indicates proficiency has not been met in a given area. Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) indicates adequate yearly progress toward the goal of proficiency for students in a particular sub-group by comparing the percentage of students tested and performance of tested students against NYS defined standards. The link to the 2013-2014 School Report Card is https://reportcards.nysed.gov/. You can also view it at our website by visiting our Instruction and Technology page.
