Silt & Sediment Control Products

Excessive sediment present in water from run-off on construction and agricultural sites can build up in nearby streams, creeks and drains, and often ends up out in the ocean, affecting the biodiversity of aquatic life in these ecosystems by reducing water quality, releasing unwanted nutrients from the soil, and preventing sunlight from entering the water’s surface, therefore fuelling excessive algae growth and the health of the creatures we catch and eat. This environmental damage will

often impose fines.

Controlling run-off, an increasing environmental concern, is advantageous to owners, contractors and engineers who face the economic costs associated with site sediment loss. Issues can arise, including blocked drains and slippery surfaces as a result of sediment run-off on nearby roads and pathways.

Sediment pollution can be controlled via a range of reliable silt and sediment systems, on both the land (degradation) and waterways (contamination). Installed correctly, these devices function as filters, trapping fine-grained sediments whilst letting storm water run-off pass through at a moderate rate. By effectively controlling silt and sediment on site, conditions can be improved, with better wet weather working conditions and fewer public complaints.

Silt Fence Silt Fence is a permeable, UV stabilised, woven polypropylene geotextile, installed on supporting posts in designated areas where there is a risk of sediment run-off, usually along the low side of a site, catching silt before it reaches gutters, drains and watercourses. Silt Fence is designed to withstand a high tensile capacity, making it an effective, long-lasting barrier against sediment pollution. It is easily installed, with posts driven into the ground at regular intervals along the silt fence barrier enabling upright positioning. Silt fence is available in rolls .86m x 100m. A premium silt fence, consisting of non-woven geotextile, is also available for purchase.

Silt Curtain

Silt Curtains work in a similar manner to silt fencing, except they are installed for use in sheltered waterways, catching a build up of silt, algae or debris on the water. They consist of special non-woven geotextile skirt to act as the filter, attached to a high-visibility reinforced plastic floatation pocket, and a plastic ballast pocket. They are a cost effective, fast and easy

solution. EESA can also provide an installation guide on how best to deploy silt curtains for their most efficient usage. Available in various sizes.

Silt/Sand Bags Sand bags are available in a high strength, high durability, woven geotextile with extremely high flow properties, as opposed to the traditional hemp sandbags. They come closed at one end with double stitching, and a tie off at the open end, and are traditionally filled on site with sand or aggregate.. Sandbags are a perfect option when silt fence cannot be installed, and are commonly used for rock check dams and basic sediment control on hardstand areas. Sand bags are available as either light (woven) or heavy duty (non-woven) geotextile, and now as biodegradable hessian.

Silt Sock

SiltSock are manufactured from “A” Strength Class Non-Woven Geotextile and are designed to assist in the prevention of silt from

entering Stormwater drains. They are a very useful tool for sediment control on hardstand areas, where you are unable to erect and trench in silt fence. Best practices require all sites to install “silt control devices” – silt fence is the usual method but where we are dealing with a concrete base

(gutters, Stormwater Inlet Pits) SiltSock placed as shown below is our best option in reducing the

silt flowing into the drains. The Socks are rolled onto a spool for easy handling - simply cut the desired length from the spool and fill the sock on site with a section of Agpipe and

sand, using cable ties to seal. Silt Sock come in the standard sizes below however can also be manufactured to specific requirements

500mm (W) x 50m (L) stitched into 1m lengths

200mm (W) x 50m (L) stitched into 1m lengths

200mm (W) x 50m (L)

Coir Log

Manufactured from Coir fibre firmly compacted to form a flexible, sausage-like structure which can be used for various applications. Highly recommended for creek/stream reinstatement/realignment. Also an excellent product for water diversion and sediment filtration on slopes, coastal and wetland protection and flood control. Much like silt socks, coir logs have the ability to trap sediment whilst allowing rapid water transmission through the natural fibre body. Vegetation is usually planted into the logs for long term stability. They are biodegradable, and should last between 5-10 years pending the environment. Coir Logs are generally held in place with hardwood timber stakes or retaining pins, placed through the netting, requiring little labour. Coir Logs are available in sizes of either 3m x .3m or 2.6m x .2m

Sediment Snake

Save the time and money consuming process of filling Silt Socks on site by purchasing our pre-filled sediment snakes. Filled with

biodegradable pine wood chips, our sediment snakes are made from our “A” class Non-Woven Geotextile in lengths of either 1.2m or 3m,

for convenience on site.

Filterbags

Muddy, sediment-laden water pumped from construction sites into the sediment filter bag results in almost sediment-free water discharges through the walls of the bag. This relatively new technique of sediment control is very useful in meeting the sediment control requirements for well construction sites. Filtration Bags are double stitched for extra strength with a .5m neck for attachment to a 2” or 4” pump. Eyelets are also sewn onto the corners should you wish to anchor the bags. Manufactured from MRS11.27 Strength Class “D” Non Woven Geotextile (330gsm+), filterbags generally

come in sizes of 1m x 2m, or 2m x 2m, but can be made to size on request.
