Signs of Animal Abuse and Neglect
By Cody Saltsman
Introduction
A dedicated advocate for animals, Cody Saltsman has rescued many abandoned and abused pets in his local area. Cody Saltsman, who frequently donates food and other necessities to the local animal shelter, owns a dog that he found when it was just a puppy, cold and hungry, on a snowy night.
Far too many vulnerable animals undergo mistreatment and neglect at the hands of their owners, but conscientious neighbors can help prevent some of this cruelty.
Animal Abuse
If you know the signs to look for, you may be able to save a life. For example, a pet in your neighborhood with matted hair, missing patches of fur, or open sores may be suffering from a severe lack of grooming. A pet that is chained outdoors with no access to water, or to shelter during bad weather may also be experiencing neglect. An animal that is extremely thin may also be in danger.
Conclusion
If you see a pet with a limp or open wounds, that animal may be suffering violent abuse. The same may be true for an animal that acts fearful or aggressive in the presence of its owner. If you see any of these signs, you can call the local authorities. Be sure to tell them if you believe the pet is in immediate danger. Similarly, if you are witnessing abuse first hand, try to get photographic evidence to support an investigation.
