The UN Declaration of the Rights of

the Child The Declarationof the Rights of the Childis the name given to a

series ofrelated children's rightsproclamations drafted by Save theChildrenfounder Eglantyne Jebbin 1923.

Jebb believed that the rights of a child should be especiallyprotected and enforced, thus drafting the first stipulations for

child's rights. Jebb's initial 1923 document consisted of the following criteria:

The child must be given the means requisite for its normaldevelopment, both materially and spiritually.

The child that is hungry must be fed, the child that is sick must be

nursed, the child that is backward must be helped, the delinquentchild must be reclaimed, and the orphan and the waif must besheltered and succored.

The child must be the first to receive relief in times of distress.

In 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Childwas adopted by UN GeneralAssembly. On September 2, 1990 it became international law. With one notableexception the US refused to sign up to Charter. The Convention consists of 54articles that address the basic human rights children everywhere are entitled to:the right to survival;develop to the fullest;protection from harmful influences, abuse and exploitation;participate fully in family, cultural and social life.[3]The four core principles of the Convention are non-discrimination; devotion to thebest interests of the child; the right to life, survival and development; and respectfor the views of the child.[3]Under the Convention, a child is defined as "... every human being below the ageof eighteen years unless, under the law applicable to the child, majority is attainedearlier."

Reflection

The View of this course is to teach ECE students to gain knowledge about identifyingdifferent child abuse , how to support parents , how to procedure professionalreporting and preventing services etc. As ECE students ,our group chose the topic Child neglect that means chronic in attention or omission to provide for the basicneeds of the child including food, clothing, nutrition, adequate supervision, health,hygiene, safety, medical and psychological care and education. Class Note. Jeanne JW. Warnock) According to the declaration of the United NationsChildren rights that each of the child in the world has to right to get adequate nutrition,housing and medical services and also right to be protected against all forms of neglectcruelty and exploitation.

As an Early child hood Educator , I think I should take the following steps while I havefound any children neglect abuse , I would report about this abuse to police. Not onlyan Early child hood Educator but also a concern citizen in the world to prevent child

abuse I will play a significant roll by giving lecture to community groups let them knowhow to identify and report child abuse, neglect, and maltreatment. I also talk withparents about the consequences of child neglect and help them to build awareness,skills, enhance knowledge of the child development , age appropriate behaviour andthe importance of good parenting.

As a first world citizens we need to raise awareness among ourselves. Due

to child negligence , in many parts of the world children face extreme

poverty and sometime are driven into child labour. As first world citizen if

we become more conscious about child negligence in other parts of the

world this global problem can be solved. First of all, we need to raise

awareness and do not support first world corporations which promotes

child labour. Furthermore, we can promote parenting program, child

advocacy program to stop child abuse as well as childhood neglect.
