The Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (OMUTCD) provides

standards and guidelines for the use of traffic signs, pavement markings,

traffic signals, and other traffic control devices in our state. The Manual

applies to all streets, highways, bikeways, and private roads open to public

travel in Ohio.

Traffic signs are addressed in Part 2 of the OMUTCD. The use of standard

colors for traffic signs is important, as it improves driver recognition and

helps to reduce response times. Sign colors are discussed in Section 2A.10,

which is reprinted below, and the color schemes for specific signs are

shown in the illustrations located in each appropriate chapter or section of the Manual.

OMUTCD Table 2A-5 (Common Uses of Sign Colors) is reprinted on the next page.
