With the Lean Six Sigma Team completing two years of engagement with Industry and members, the focus is now to
deliver business results through breakthrough projects and deployment of Lean across processes.
The Lean Six Sigma Project Competition completed its ten years with over 60 projects participating from industries
ranging from Banking, Insurance, Pharma, Automotive, Engineering etc competing under four broad categories,
namely Discrete Manufacturing, Process Industry, Service/IT/ITES and Customer Facing Projects. The number of
entries have doubled over the last 2-3 years.
The year 2017 commenced with the First Symposium on Quality Improvement Methodology at Mumbai conducted
jointly with the Indian Statistical Institutes. Keeping in mind the future industry needs, special sessions on Analytics,
Robotic and Process Transformation for Business Processes have been planned.
The CII IQ team is undertaking three projects at Infosys BPO, Aditya Birla Financial Services Ltd and Gujrat Borosil as
partners in transformational change programs. At Infosys BPO, the Lean Deployment for select accounts is in their
deployment and deliver stages. The project is now getting extended to their Pune and Chennai locations. Besides
Lean, our team is also in touch with their client organization to provide solution on Advanced Capacity
Management & Optimization Practices.
At ABSL, with the completion of the first batch of the Green Belt program for their operations team, participants are in
various stages of project competition. Given the positive response from the participants, the program is now being
extended to their Sales Team, with each member working on projects like Sales Productivity Improvement,
Enhancing Customer Satisfaction etc.
At Gujrat Borosil, the effort is to improve work environment, enhance productivity and yield through involvement of
the workforce and front line supervisors.
I hope that this second edition of the LSS Newsletter is useful and we looking forward to your valuable suggestions
and feedback in the support of this National cause.

Tenth National Competition on Lean Six Sigma, Bangalore
CII Six Sigma Competition is organized every year at the national level. Based on the successful completion of the
10th National Competition, plans are afoot to conduct the 11th edition this year. The competition will be conducted
at TWO levels. Selected projects at the regional level will be compete at the National level. CII took the initiative of
conducting the Six Sigma competitions to bring all the industries who were implementing improvement
methodologies on one common platform to propogate cross learning and continuous improvement. The first
competition was launched in the year 2007.
In SIX SIGMA initiatives, the projects are driven from the Top and they are classified in the categories of defect
reduction, productivity improvement, cost reduction and customer satisfaction. Appropriate approaches and
techniques are decided for doing the investigation and implementing with countermeasures for improving the
processes. To ensure that the work done by varied industry is provided with a platform, the competition is being held
in five different categories as given below.
As every year, this year too, the competition will be conducted in 2 phases. Phase I being the Regional level (at
Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore and Gurgaon), followed by the Phase II, National level competition at
Bangalore. Keeping the focus on Business and Rigor of Deployment, the evaluation criteria will be as follows

To share various case studies done through Six Sigma methodology by different organizations.
To Learn the key/ best practices through the successful case studies and interact with Six Sigma practitioners for
hands-on usage of the techniques, approach and methodology
To get exposed to various innovative tools and techniques used for making Process improvements.

This Conference will bring together SIX SIGMA professionals, academicians and key people from Indian Industry to a
common platform to share the best practices and learn from successful case studies. This would be a unique
opportunity for the technical executives including Master Black Belts, Black Belts and Green Belts to exchange ideas
and views and share their success stories to improve the capabilities of their business processes. This will help the
Organizations to benchmark their approaches and methodology with others.
Project Selection:
The projects will be selected by a group of jury from Industry who are directly involved in Six sigma initiatives.

From each of the category, one best project will be selected for the trophy and one runner up project will be
selected. Certificates of participation will be given to the Team Leader and the two team members who will be

The Lean Expert and Six Sigma Black Belt Certification Program is a

21 participants from various group companies on 9-
11 Nov 2016.. Each of the participants have taken up
an improvement project in their respective work area
which will lead to significant improvement in
Efficiency, Effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
The Second Batch was conducted with 32 managers
from the Sales and HR departments . Post the
satisfactory completion of two phases of training and
project, participants will be awarded the CII Institute
of Quality Green Belt Certificate. A series of such
programs at various levels are planned over the next
few quarters.
Study Mission to the Best Practicing Six Sigma CompaniesCII IQ also organizes best practice mission to successfully practising Six Sigma Companies across India. This study tour
is specifically designed to provide opportunities to participants to adopt the Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
which will help sustaining results in today's competitive world. This study tour is valuable as participants will get first-

Lean Deployment and Capability Building at Infosys BPOThe Lean Six Sigma Team is supporting the Infosys BPO in deployment of
Lean for select accounts from define to delivery stage. The assignment
involves Leadership Engagement Workshops, Lean Practitioners and
Lean Expert workshop and actual mentoring of projects in the
workplace. The objective of the program is to improve Efficiency,
Effectiveness and Customer Satisfaction. The rigor and speed of
deployment has been appreciated by one of the end clients.
With the results delivered so far the assignment has got extended to Pune and Chennai location. Besides Lean, the
team is also in touch with the client organization to provide solution on Advanced Capacity Management &
Optimization Practices.
