Men’s CookingBob Lemmon

March cooking venture found us in Alta Sierra being Co-Hosted By Jack Meylink & Bob Lemmon. Jack’s Split-Pea Soup creation was outstanding & enjoyed by all. Our baked bread took us in a new direction. We made bread rolls, filled with various fillings. We used Cinnamon, Garlic, & Steve Bluestien Jam fillings. This was a very creative cooking outing & enjoyed every bread roll, eat most of them. The pictures will give a clue our creativity.

Jack introduced us to a new concept for our Cooking Group, the idea of having Co Hosting for our events. This idea would allow members to participate & spawn more activ-ity. Let me know your thoughts.

Fishing GroupTom Beale

Fishing Buddies. The weather is about to break from all this much-needed rain. Fishing conditions should improve over this next month, and all of us will be ableto get out and do some fishing. TheDepartment of Fish and Wildlife is on a pretty good stocking program on the lakes they can get to. Snow in the upperelevations may hamper stocking of fish until later in May or even June. We havea pretty good snow pack.

I am sorry to have to cancel the Shasta Fishing trip originally planned for May 6th through May 10th. We had only 6members pay to go. The checks will be returned to them. Interest andparticipation is really lacking for these trips. We used to to have 20 to 30 guys go. I can now get only a few. The Reservationplanning and preparation time required for so few members is just far too much.

Fishing Group meets the second Thursday of each month at the Sierra Smokehouse grill on Hwy. 49, (Grass Valley Hwy.) at 8:30 a.m. All those interested in Outdooractivity, fishing in particular areencouraged to attend.

Golf - Phil Bolander

Hello all you worm burners. Well, the weather has certainly curtailed any golf outings but we will venture on. Our next outing is Apr. 9th at Table Mtn., in Oroville. This should also be listed as a travel activity. In any case a few of us are going from 79 as well as some from 37 weather permitting. After that our next outing will be at Cherry Island in Elverta on Apr. 23rd. It is a 4man - 1bb format with computer generated teams. Cost is$41 preferably cash. At least this is close. Signups have to be by Apr. 12th. Hope this gets to you before then.

Something to consider. Our area 2 team qualifier is coming up on May 20th at Alta Sierra. It is a scramble event and if trying to qualify then teams of your choice must use the A,B,C,D format..That is by index as of May 1st. A - 0-17. B - 17.1 - 22.0, C - 22.1 - 27.0 and D - 27.1 - 36.4. Cost per person to qualify is $43. Let’s start thinking about your teams now. It should be great weather and an excellent course to play on. They are also under new man-agement and the restaurant will be open for lunch. Any questions call me at 530 745-9874.

Bowling - Tom McEntee

Round-Robin March 2019. Once again the level of participation for the Round-Rob-in bowling events was quite low. For the March event we were down three bowlers due to medical /illness issues. With that said, the three that did bowl represent 50% of our “active” bowlers, not bad from a numbers perspective. Our bowlers were led by SIR Harvey Eisley with a 605 scratch series followed by SIR Kenneth Launius with a 604. Rounding out the threesome was SIR Roy Guy with a 463 series. All three managed to cash in this event. Please see below for the line scores from the latest Yuba City bowling event.

Tournament Trail 2019: We have four bowlers headed to Gold Dust West in Carson City on April 8 – 11 2019 for SIR Bowling Tournament. Results to be published in the next news letter.

Travel - Phil Bolander

Saunders, Argo, Bolander and Berkebile are leaving on May 12th for a week in Canada. It’s a train ride thru the mountains with overnite stays in Kamloops, Lake Louise, Banff, andCalgary with great excursions along the way.

SIR Membership AwardsThe following SIR were presented with membership awards at our last luncheon: (left to right) Bob Tutton, 13 years; Jim Peters, 21 years; Russ Anderson, 28 years. Congratulations to our SIR Brothers.

Lunch Report - Bill Heale

Say Gents: How about that corned Beef that was really good stuff. Kudos to the Chef. That goes for the G-Man Speaker also. Very Informative. Great turn-out also with 100 for lunch. 1 Guest, 1 Speaker., 22 excused. Great to see a couple of old friends at the meeting.

Sometimes it helps to call and remind a friend on the third Wednesday of the month and say “Hey” the SIR Luncheon is tomorrow; you coming? Can I pick you up?I know we tried the phone thing B-4 and it bothered some people, but, we (Craig & I) only called 4 or 5 members an d 2 came. They had a great time. So, if you are not going to the luncheon call me or you might be getting a reminder call! I hope to see all of you this month.
