Workshop on Work Life Balance July 8, 2019 Monday Another workshop was conducted by Mr.Sachin Sidhra on 8th July, 2019. The session began with an interesting activity, where teachers in pair, followed instructions given by him. The learning from this activity was that if everybody around is helpful, we can easily enjoy the work without taking much of stress. Hence instead of being a critic, we should extend a helping hand as much as possible.

The fact that we take professional stress at home was also stated. Quadrant of time was introduced to the teachers which can help them create a healthy work environment. Any work without a plan can create stress. Hence one should have minimum of 5 plans every day.

To overcome personal stress, we can make use of our free time in the staff room, to make others feel comfortable. It was also stated that one should not take too many tasks in hand. Instead one should learn to say ‘No’ and delegate the task to someone with lesser workload. This way a cohesive work environment is built.

He then discussed about managing personal stress. Adapting healthy lifestyle, giving 30 minutes time to self to analyse our day, dedicating time for family, 8 hours of sleep, working out and meditating were suggested.

The workshop concluded by another activity wherein the teachers formed a circle and passed on a football to each other stating a reason why they were thankful to him/her.

Staff Workshop July 9, 2019 Tuesday Resource Person: Mr. Jayant Harihar Lal, Executive Director, SRCS ‘I touch the future, I teach.’

Mr. Jayant Harihar Lal, the resource person commenced the workshop with several thought-provoking questions. Listening to teachers’ responses, he summed up that teachers themselves were once students. He elaborated on the role of student, teacher and administration in realising the vision and mission of the school. Three concentric circles were drawn, placing the students in the innermost circle, teachers in the second circle and administration in the outermost circle, to show the child centric approach of the school. He iterated on the fact that the interaction between teachers and students constitutes education and emphasized collective responsibility of the staff in maintaining the reputation and progress of the school.

Next Mr. Jayant Harihar Lal through a PPT presentation explained -What makes a good teacher?

There were 10 points that he focused upon:

*Understand that you teach people and not merely a subject. *Demonstrate the joy of learning. *Keep your eyes on the prize. *Recognize that you are accountable for your students’ success. *Ask and you may receive. *Always be fair and prepared for problems before they arise. * Be Broad minded and Flexible. *Don’t work in fear. *Raise your expectation for yourself and your students.

The first session ended with a beautiful thought- ‘As a teacher, you have the power to change the world, one child at a time.’

Finally, the outcome of the workshop was listed, stressing that all planning must be made by keeping the child in the centre thus devising solutions easily. The teacher must believe that he/she is the key to solution and is somebody who can be banked upon.

“When making choices that will affect your children, use common sense”.

WAR OF WORDS July 11, 2019 Thursday “It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it.” ~Joseph Joubert

In contemporary world, there are more issues than solutions and a great many faces of any argument. Equality and peace can be maintained if we come together and discuss issues in a civil manner. Not only do they lead to some of the most invigorating battles of words, they also serve to spread knowledge and awareness among those who hear it.

It was with this spirit to spread knowledge that, on the 11thJuly, 2019 four students from SRCS participated in Stage-I of the prestigious Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School Debate. Shaurya Mehta (XII) and Girishma Gandani (XI) participated in Category I for Classes XI & XII, while Aditya Swami (X) and Aryan Singh (X) participated in Category II for Classes IX & X.

Aryan Singh and Aditya Swami bagged the Team Runners-Up prize, advancing to Stage-II, with Aditya Swami winning the Best Speaker award.

And have fun along the way. – Umair Haque Model United Nations are diplomatic simulations where students typically role play delegates to the United Nations. It is a wonderful platform that helps to strengthen the analysing and evaluation skills of the students to make a meaningful education. Without the critical faculty of deep analysis and introspection of different perspectives, a mindset for solution can never develop. These simulations, very different from the system of unemployable degree-oriented education, help germinate minds of brilliant statesmen who can steer the society through difficult situations. NOMINATION SPEECH HEAD GIRL Ronald Reagen, ex-president of USA once said, “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one who gets the people to do the greatest things.” With this thought in mind, I, Manya Tulsian, stand before you all as a candidate for the position of Head Girl . Back in class 9th, I was mandated as the member of the event management team and thus being a part of the student council. This gave me an opportunity to work under experienced faculty and seniors who helped to instill in me a true sense of responsibility and leadership techniques. Being a part of the soccer team taught me how to work effectively with a team. Aggressive participation in Inter School Competitions helped me develop communication and oratory skills. Courage is what makes one speak and courage is what makes one listen. Participating in various competitions and being a member of the student council has taught me to listen to everyone’s opinion and respect them. I aspire to inculcate these valuable learning and serve my school in the best possible way with the support of all the teachers and students. Teachers have always shown faith in me and I’m glad because of their belief in me I am standing here today. “Alone we can do so little and together we can do so much”, says Helen Keller and this can only be brought to meaning if we all work together as one and help SRCS achieve great heights. We all want a leader who helps and guides us, is a friend to us when needed rather than dominating us. I look forward to be that leader for you all. Manya Tulsian NOMINATION SPEECH HEAD BOY

“A very good afternoon to all the teachers and students. I stand here before you all to discuss the reason, ‘Why I would like to be the head boy of SRCS’. For those who don't know me, I’m Ayush Uniyal and I have been attending this school for almost over 5 years and therefore I would feel honoured and privileged to represent my school as a leader. I am confident that I would be a positive leader for youngsters as well as my peers. I am well-mannered and quite an approachable student. I am also familiar with leadership values as I represented India in 2015 WKC in Venice, Italy where 28 countries participated. I stood fifth and I’m also a black belt in Karate, which enlightened me and showed me different aspects

of life. I also admit that I might not be the coolest candidate but I can assure you that if you vote for me I will put everything I can into the role of Head boy, because being a leader would be a huge honour. I promise each and every one of you that you will get equal opportunities, in every event. As soon as I become the head boy I will be placing suggestion boxes in every floor of academic block so that each and every student and teacher can give their suggestions in small chits or letters. I will also visit each and every class for a Question-Answer session. In the end I would like to say, vote wisely.’’The people you elect today will reflect our school's prestige tomorrow.” Ayush Unniyal

Creative Section ‘Education fosters Democracy’. ‘

Education is the instruction and training imparted to students in schools, colleges and universities’. Democracy is defined in the dictionary as a state of equality, social, political and legal equality. To achieve that, it is essential to have a system that allows cooperation and encourages people to think freely for the betterment of humanity as a whole. It is the education system we see today in India that hinders the growth of democracy.

To understand this, we need to rewind the clock and go 400 years back, when the education system came into existence. The East India Company had just started annexing territories in India. They had this brilliant idea to employ the Indian population in their service. Now, they needed three types of people to work for them: clerks, to manage the territories they annexed; sepoys to defend those territories and also factory workers because the Industrial Revolution was in full swing. Guess what all of these jobs have in common? They all require zero creativity, zero imagination and the ability to follow orders without questioning them or coming up with ideas. For that, they introduced the Western form of education in Indian government schools. Today, for the same tasks, we create robots and program them to work without using any creativity. However, we still haven’t stopped programming students the same way through schools and colleges where emphasis is placed on rigorous practices and retention capacity rather than understanding and imagination, where students are being marked as pass or fail like factory goods rather than assessing their strengths and weaknesses; where students are “instructed and trained” like the lion in the circus, to cut out all ideas, creativity and independence and follow the instructions of the ringmaster thoughtlessly.

In an age where we replace our mobile phones every 5 years because we like staying up to date, why do we still have an outdated education system that is 400 years old?

Today, 1 out of 10 engineers, IT employees, the epitome of excellence of this brilliant education system of ours, contemplating suicide at some point in their lives. Does it sound right?

Is this the education system that will nourish the inspiring leaders of tomorrow that will carry our nation forward?

Midnight The starry sky hangs above the sleepless city, people typing away at their computers, caffeine surging through their veins , their eyes like blowholes which swallow everything on the screen barely caring about the time which slips by unattended, chipping away at their health. Turning their hair as white as the moon in the sky their faces reveal a blend expression having forgotten the feeling of restlessness and tiredness, they wait not for the time to leave but for their promotions which just inch them further towards an unbridled brain death.
