shining a light on a path of hope

United Hope Foundation HistoryLeon Riggs always had a vision. He had a vision to give back to our local Indianapolis community by giving others a second chance--by helping when all “hope” seemed lost. Mr. Riggs is no stranger to second chances. In the early 1970’s a serious airplane accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. His second chance was no less than a miracle. He was able to recover and live a very successful life, both in business and philanthropy. “Giving Back” to Leon Riggs became more than a vision, it became a passion. Through his passion of giving others a second chance, United Hope Foundation (“United Hope”) was born

Mr. Riggs is also the owner of LOR Corporation (“LOR”) and United Package Liquors (“UPL”). United Hope is a philanthropic outlet for both LOR and UPL to help build a sense of legacy for its employees. Through the years, United Hope has greatly evolved by fine tuning its mission and expanding its funding capabilities. United Hope has impacted many individuals, families and charities in central Indiana. United Hope has given over $1,000,000.00 to individuals, families and local non-profit organizations since its inception in January, 2005.

Our Events United Hope has initiated two major annual fundraising events to help raise funds for the local community. Each year, United Hope conducts a beer and wine tasting event called Indy’s Wine & Brew Fest and an annual golf outing called Greens for Hope.

Our BoardUnited Hope’s board of directors is

comprised of leaders of LOR and UPL, as well as seasoned executives from the central Indiana community. The board continues to strive to provide a sense of legacy for United Hope and is committed to enhancing the current and future needs of Indianapolis and the surrounding area.

our missionThe mission of United Hope is to support individuals and families facing extreme hardship, as well as to support select local 501 (c) 3organizations with similar goals. United Hope believes that by providing support to non-profit agencies, it can improve the quality of life for those struggling to make ends meet. We support many types of organizations in Central Indiana and accept requests for funding throughout the entire year.

Leon Riggs Scholarship Fund A fund that provides assistance to needy families for children to attend pre-school

Description: a fund that provides financial assistance to needy families for children who attend pre-school at the Early Learning Center in Lawrence Township

About ELC: The Early Learning Centers of Lawrence Township are designed to appeal to the

natural curiosity, capability, and eagerness to learn of the young child. Rich in literacy, artistic expression, Workshop and Project Approach, the Centers’ early learning programs incorporate Indiana Preschool Foundations and Indiana Kindergarten Academic State Standards. Most importantly, they foster a life-long disposition towards, and joy in learning.

Impact: The impact of the Leon Riggs’ Scholarship has been profound to the individual families as well as the Early Learning Centers. Individual families have felt supported and encouraged to continue with their child’s early education because they were awarded these funds. These funds have also had an impact on the community around the school. It has been a positive experience for the community to know these funds are available for those in need around them. Data indicates that children who begin their formal education at the Early Learning Centers and continue on at Lawrence Township elementary schools outperform students who attend other child care facilities and private kindergartens. The Early Learning Centers help children to become problem solvers and the Leon Riggs’ Scholarship Fund allows more children to have this powerful foundation.
