A Word from the President
It is has been a busy & eventful three months at Foundation Shine.
We held our Mum’s the Word luncheon on 3rd May in which we raised money for our pamper gift packs. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon in the picturesque setting of Adelaide Pavilion and the funds raised from this luncheon will enable us to continue purchasing our inspirational books and products which are an integral component of our gift giving.
We have had positive feedback on how much these pamper packs are appreciated - even bringing tears of joy. Some who are given our little gift of encouragement very rarely get to experience the joy of receiving such a gift. It is important they know there are people out there who really care.
We have been very fortunate in receiving an amazing donation of baby & beauty products which are perfect for our Shine gift packs and will go a long way in helping us continue our gift giving to those consumers and carers who deserve a special treat or little lift in their lives.
A HUGE thank you to this wonderful supporter of Foundation Shine!
We would also like to sincerely thank everyone who was a part of our very enjoyable Moulin Rouge Gala Dinner in which we raised over $22,000 to go towards the very important and often life changing role of “Counselling” We are already excitedly planning next year’s event.
We continue to feel very grateful for your support and enthusiasm and feel blessed that this enables us to continue raising funds and awareness for mental health.
Yours sincerely,
Robyn May
President
Foundation Shine Inc.

Foundation Shine donation to MIFSA
MIFSA provides a broad range of mental health programs, including Counselling which assists people to assume greater control and influence in living fulfilling lives.
Peter Bartram, MIFSA Counsellor, who spoke about his counselling role at the Moulin Rouge fundraiser, is not pictured as MIFSA is only funded for a couple of days a week to provide a counselling service. MIFSA is able to extend the amount of counselling sessions for people affected by mental illness (consumers and carers) by supplementing the government grant with MIFSA’s own funds which are supported by the fundraising work of Foundation Shine and their wonderful supporters.
Never underestimate the influence you have when you are a part of a Foundation Shine event – in this case your support creates opportunity for many hundreds of people to access a MIFSA counsellor offering vital, professional, life-changing counselling sessions – thank you!

Foundation Shine donation to Aceda
Aceda has a mission statement; to assist all South Australians effected by panic and anxiety, obsessive and compulsive, and eating disorders, and their supporters through education, information, support and advocacy.
Our vision is recovery understanding, acceptance and inclusion. Our values are client centred, recovery focused and embrace lived experience with disorders.
Our support team understands the issues surrounding all aspects of these disorders, with their own lived experience or close relationship with others with lived experience. We provide non-clinical face-to-face and telephone support, self-help and support groups, as well as individual and systemic advocacy.
Through the donations received we are able to provide support groups and one-to-one counselling in Noarlunga & Modbury. These are lifelines for people seeking support.
Thank you once again for the opportunity to be associated with Foundation Shine and the wonderful people in your circle of support. It is through these friends in community that we are able to extend our offering of support that otherwise would not occur.

PM visits MIFSA to see firsthand the impact local services will have as a result of Mental Health Reform The Prime Minister Hon Julia Gillard, Minister for Health and Ageing Hon Nicola Roxon, Minister for Mental Health and Ageing Hon Mark Butler and Minister for Employment Participation and Childcare Hon Kate Ellis visited the Mental Illness Fellowship South Australia at Wayville on Thursday 19th May 2011.
Individuals contacting MIFSA connect with therapeutic groups, peer work training, support groups, counselling, education programs and activity programs which are funded by the State Government. MIFSA also offers Commonwealth funded Respite Programs, Support for Day to Day Living in the Community (Activity Programs), Well Ways programs and one to one support through Personal Helpers and Mentors (PHaMs) programs. The Prime Minister met with MIFSA participants who spoke about how these programs have supported their recovery and carer journeys.
The Hon Ms Gillard heard how when faced with homelessness and domestic violence, discrimination and mental illness, MIFSA programs were the one constant for Sarah each week. Alan shared how Activity Programs offered a space where new skills could be practiced and where he has built his confidence to be himself in the broader community.
Lisa explained that medical attention helped her to get her head sorted but then she found herself with so many other areas of her life which needed support. While Lisa has been unable to access PHaMs from her postcode, Respite Programs have offered her both a one to one worker as well as a week in MIFSA’s Respite House to try new activities and inspire her to achieve even more.
Flower Arranging Workshop
Carer Support
Robyn May ran a flower arranging
workshop at the Fullarton offices
of Carer Support on the 14th July.
A demonstration by Robyn was followed up with
a keen group of Carers doing a wonderful job
recreating her design.
The Carers were able to take their flower
arrangement home and enjoy the beauty of their
design. A delicious devonshire tea followed and
the afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Well done to Louise Fuller and her team for
facilitating the workshop - what a nice way
to spend a few hours!
Carer Support Mental Health team provides
support to Carers of people living with a
mental illness. They do this by providing
Respite, Information and Support. For further

Robyn’s delightful
table centres made the
room very pretty.
In what is now on our annual calendar following the success last year, Mum’s the Word took place at Pavilion Veale Gardens on Tuesday 3rd May, 2011.
Although rain was forecast, nothing but wonderful sunshine beamed on our event in the very beautiful parklands surrounding the Pavilion.
On arrival guests were greeted with organza gift bags containing, a voucher donated by Elevate Hair and Beauty, body cream from Gaia, inspirational bookmark from Affirmations and finished off with a chocolate sweetie !!
The table centres were designed and created by our own Robyn May – they were raffled off on each table.
In another corner of the room Adelaide Mobile Massage provided the opportunity for mums to enjoy a relaxing neck and shoulder massage or hand treatment. This was generously sponsored by Eve Goodings of Good Innings Health Care Pty Ltd.
The event was compered by Foundation Shine’s Eve Goodings, with a reflection on celebrating “Mum’s” followed by a toast. Our President Robyn May took to the podium to continue the welcome, thanking our important and valued sponsors and then shared the activities of Foundation Shine of late and how funding from today’s luncheon would allow our work to continue. Robyn shared positive feedback from one of the organizations on our recipient list.
With special thanks to Robyn’s daughter Laura May and models from Rachel’s Modelling Agency, a beautiful fashion parade began previewing wonderful designs and labels found at Mai Loui of Hutt Street – Anna and Sandy put together a lovely collection.
Yen and Rochelle of Elevate Hair and Beauty also on Hutt Street donated their time and skills to ensure the models hair and makeup was just perfect.
Mothers Day Luncheon
3rd May, 2011
Adelaide Pavilion – Veale Gardens
Eve then introduced Belinda Brown from MIFSA who had a very inspiring story to be told and most relevant theme of the day - Mothers.
Belinda also encouraged others, whether it be those in the room or someone they know to reach out, accept help, because as she has found from her own experience it can be the difference between life and death, happiness and despair.
Music then filled the room, with Sharon singing Color My World, followed by Que Sera, with Liam taking care of our sound needs for this segment as well as the entire day’s needs including graphics.
In between guests mingled and took advantage to shop at the trader stall of Kudeta for jewellery and accessories, with thanks to Gail and Barb.
Next on the program was our very special guest, Angela Condous A.M. Patron of the Advertiser Sunday Mail Foundation and former Lady Mayoress.
Angela took us through her life, as a child, as a married woman, as a mother, as Lady Mayoress and as Patron. What an amazing story, we cried, we laughed, we were entertained. Needless to say Angela received enormous applause for sharing her story with us.
After dessert and coffee and much chatter in the room, our guests left with smiles on their faces and warmth in their hearts.
The event raised just over $2000.00 which will allow Robyn to continue creating the pamper and inspirational boxes for Helen Mayo House, Catherine House, ACEDA and MIFSA with approaches on going from other needy organizations.

Literally under the magnificent lights of the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Foundation Shine held its annual fundraiser dinner, themed Moulin Rouge.
Close to two hundred elegantly attired guests arrived to the fanfare of our Moulin Rouge ringmaster, who ushered them into the beautifully decorated theatre, where you could have been excused for believing you had been transported to the streets of gay Paris. Our guests were handed giveaway bags kindly donated by Danne and had the opportunity of admiring the work of Emma Hack, talented body artist who was transforming a live model into a moulin rouge dancer with body art. Our red and black colour scheme was enhanced with the beautiful chair covers and table runners donated by Chair Covers Over All. A large array of silent and main auction items were on display, so generously donated from individuals and businesses of Adelaide.
The Ringmaster created further excitement when he was joined by Laura May and the Essential Talent Can Can Dancers in full costume. The girls selected unsuspecting ‘volunteers’ to join them in dance !
Graeme Goodings, our master of ceremonies then took to the stage and welcomed everyone. He then introduced President, Robyn May who briefly reviewed the Foundation’s work and future aspirations. She also thanked all those people who had made the evening possible.
Guests were offered a variety of wonderful wines from award winning Schild Estate Winery and we sincerely thank them for their generous sponsorship. A specially themed French dinner was designed and prepared by the chefs at the Entertainment Centre and was a delicious component to the evening.
Guest speaker from Mental Illness Fellowship South Australia Inc. Peter Bartram delivered an overview of the amazing counselling services provided by MIFSA. Peter’s story was heartfelt and inspiring.
Following on from this was the fabulous floor show, featuring a fantastic medley of Moulin Rouge songs sung beautifully by our very own songbird Sharon Middleton and a wonderful dance routine choreographed by Laura May and performed together with the Essential Talent Showgirls.
Throughout the evening, Eve and Graeme conducted the lucky table draws in a fun way, randomly selecting tables to pluck from a basket a red rose with a table number on it.
Next it was time for our very special guest Neil Kerley to take to the stage with Graeme. Neil was so entertaining and had everyone’s attention from woe to go. His account of early days involving stories of his courtship and marriage to wife of 50 years Barb had everyone in stitches. Knuckles Kerley was extremely entertaining.
In between all of this, Linda McCartney singing and playing keyboards really hit a chord with all in the room. Linda was entertaining, offering light and shade when needed and then “let loose” for the dancing die hards to hit the floor and show their moves !!
Andrew Maros in his usual flair conducted an auction that delivered results – he had guests scared to scratch their nose – old eagle eyes.
It was a great night on all levels and saw us raise $22,000.00 - $10,000 distributed to MIFSA and $10,000 to ACEDA for their counselling services that currently don’t have sufficient funds to operate as they would like.
