Polina Alexandrovna - Fashion & Textile DesignEngulf The exhaustion of nat-ural resources, air pol-lution and deforesta-tion caused by mass production are some of the biggest global threats for our planet … My collection explores solutions based on the proposal of the third industrial revolution - a movement towards a sharing society, where sellers and buyers are replaced by providers and users, consumer-ism is upended by sus-tainability, and quality

F e l i c e A n d e r s o n - V i s u a l A r t I utilise appropriation extensively, re-contextualising content from online and analogue sources and in doing so chang-ing the way this content is read and understood. My work can take many forms such as video, installation and print. Pink Image 1-3 is a series of ambiguous prints that draw on the visual language of abstraction. The con-tent consists of found blurred areas of censor-ship applied to babies in ‘birth vlog’ videos uploaded to YouTube. I unsettle the distinction between public and private and question notions of ownership. I have a Bachelor of Science from UWA and am now completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Curtin University.

K e l l y B r y d s o n - P h o t o g r a p h yA Perth based domestic photographer, Kelly primarily pho-tographs newborns and families. She enjoys working with families and their loved ones to create meaningful docu-mentation of their lives. This particular body of work ex-plores themes based on her past experiences after suffering

the loss of her fiancé and the father of her two boys. This conceptual series is an expression of the emotional impact surrounding the loss of an integral member of the family. “I learnt so much about photography at TAFE. I am very grateful to have been taught by very skilled, creative lecturers who supported us & gave us so many great opportunities.”

explain how wonderful it is to be able to create something from textile through to finished garment.I have made some won-derful friends, and been given the opportunity to gain employment in my chosen profes-sion, recently securing employment at Potter & Co, as well as being awarded the 2018 Varga Girl Award, to display my collection in store. @la_cudmore lacudmore.wixsite.com/portfolio

C l i v e C u l l e n - 3 D P r o d u c t D e s i g nInspired by my childhood fascination with dinosaurs, and the arrival of my own little monster, Dino is a concept toy T-Rex, designed by breaking anatomy down into basic geo-metric parts. After multiple design iterations were hand sketched, a pro-totype was modelled in SolidWorks and 3D printed in PLA plastic. Lengths of elastic shockcord tied under tension, and wooden dowels were used to manually con-nect the body parts. These rounded and symmetrical body parts could also be turned on a wood lathe. To pro-duce a wooden appear-ance a second proto-type was 3D printed, and the surface rough sanded and etched with a metal file, then painted with ‘Raw Sien-na’ oil paint.

B l a k e D o w n e s - P h o t o g r a p h yThe story behind the image is based off me shooting my younger brothers football season for a TAFE assessment. After shooting action shots of these Balladura Australian

Rules players throughout the 2018 season, I felt that having multiple portraits that form a group photo had an authentic approach on how this football team is united, with unique people & skills that create such a practical family of athletes.

S i m o n H a e s e r - 3 D P r o d u c t D e s i g n Combining many of my passions, design allows me to ex-plore the dialogue and co-existence between product and person. I gain personal satisfaction from each step of the creative process and the challenge of turning concepts into beautifully manufactured pieces. My goal is to do justice to the materials and show the synergy between inspiration and function. I strive to create designs that are aesthetically pleasing whilst comfortable to use.CHAPS rings are aimed towards men interested in wearing quality jewellery that is subtle and unique. 80Miles glasses represent the contrasting environment of remote Australian beaches, with their wide, bright blue skies by day and the pitch black of night.

The Oceania couch is inspired by the Australian coastal landscape with clean lines and flowing curves. DLX10 is a minimalistic floor lamp, designed with a neutral colour palette for timeless appeal – sleek & ambient.

C h l o e H e n d e r s o n - V i s u a l A r tI graduated year 12 in 2016. I thought the best thing I could do was learn more about the things I enjoyed - Visual Art. I was a very shy person and I found the TAFE atmosphere not too overwhelming, and everyone was really nice. The lecturers were fantastic and they helped me to develop my practical skills and introduced me to many new things, like printmaking, art history and conceptual art, plus I met so many practicing artists, many of whom also started out at TAFE. The people I met at North Metro are people I hope to stay in contact with in the future! I am doing the Bache-lor of Contemporary Arts at ECU now.My fascination with the moon and plan-ets has a lot to do with storybook and fantasy worlds. Plan-ets to me represent the grey area

between fact and fiction.I find it interesting that the moon can be a real place yet still serve as a foundation for stories to build upon. It’s recognised in so many different ways around the world, I think it’s amazing that one moon can hold so much cultural and imaginative significance.

Having worked as a youth engagement facilitator and skate-boarder, Kitely spent many years doing FIFO work in rural Australian communities. His works examine masculine bra-vado as he attempts to find his place in the hyper-masculine subculture. This installation utilizes ready-made skateboards from his collection as a device to reveal his own acts of mas-culine bravado. The breaks, abrasions and marks left on the remanence of skateboard parts each represent a different act of bravado made by the artist. Kitely is now completing a BA at Curtin and is one of three WA graduates showing in Hatched at PICA in May.vimeo.com/williamkitely

Trav is Lakey - Fash ion Products & MarketsPrelovedTravis Lakey is an emerg-ing designer noticed for his more avant-garde ideas that communicate his desire for thought-pro-voking and bold fashion. Although seem-ingly unrelated his garments all tell a story of his past and his dreams for the future of fashion. Grabbing influences from contemporary Japanese fashion and his American heritage, he attempts to blend the two whilst pointing out the flaws in each. He strives to use an unconventional colour palette along with bold use of print to defy conventional themes. From his childhood love of Hawaiian shirts to a more fragile part of his adulthood, each garment comes with a deeper back story expressing his rose-colored past & fashion’s influence over his life.

L i a m L a r g u e - 3 D P r o d u c t D e s i g nMy TAFE experience brought out a creative part of myself that I didn’t know was there. It was great thinking up a de-sign and being able to create the object. Before TAFE I com-pleted a Cert IV in Dimensional Design at high school and finished with the highest marks in the class. With the clock, I designed it to be mass produced, with a range of coloured parts which consumers could pick and choose from.I wanted to use lots of curves and arcs in my work, I believe they make objects look more playful and aesthetic. I take much inspiration from nature, such as plants & flora &water.

J a m e s N o l a n - 3 D P r o d u c t D e s i g nThe fascination of detail and design has evolved into an increasing passion within me, from taking a raw concept through the creative process through to the final product. My designs are sleek and minimal, with an almost obses-sive drive for quality and functionality. The most important aspect of any piece I create, is my hands-on involvement as the craftsman in the entire process. The soundwave speaker was designed to build my knowl-edge of injection moulding and detailed refinement to find the best shape for acoustics. Some of my other projects have a modern contemporary style with a large use of tim-bers and fine details.

I plan to continue studying design at ECU to finish with a Bachelor of Design majoring in Environmental and Spatial Design. I am currently working on a project for the Mund-aring Arts Centre, with established artist Phil Gamblen to create a combined work piece that focuses on the impor-tance of recycling.@James_Nolan_Design

D a n i e l P a l m a n - 3 D P r o d u c t D e s i g nFor inspiration I look around Western Australia from the small to the big and incorporate it in my work. I try to experiment with materials and I love to utilise new materials and techniques such as those for 3D printing. My light, The Cloud, was shortlisted for showing in Vivid Design in 2018 in Melbourne. In 2019 I hope to continue studies with a Bachelor of Design majoring in environmental and spatial design at Edith Cow-an University.

A n d r e w R e i d - G r a p h i c D e s i g nAfter an 8 year career as a diesel mechanic in outback WA, Andrew traded spanners and red dirt for a mouse and key-board. He is a strategic thinker who enjoys the who, what, and why of graphic design. An AWARD school graduate, An-drew also graduated with the AGDA “best in show” award.During TAFE Andrew co-ran Overtime Design, a sign-painting and mural design/painting business. You would have seen

work by the team at Panama Social Club, Falls Festival, the Royal Show, Otherside Brewing Co., restaurants, bars and events around Perth. Also during his studies, Andrew developed and honed his spe-cialist areas of branding, typogra-phy and editorial

design through internships at Chil3 and Studio Papa and is currently working at TwofromTwo.In 2019, Andrew co-founded Higher Studio - a design and art house specialising in space activation, branding and art direction, a mechanism to fully realise the skills developed and interests identified at TAFE.

C h a r l o t t e R a e B e n n e t t - I n t e r i o r D e s i g nMy interest and appreciation for natural and sustainable materials is demonstrated through many of my projects, using a range of high quality, natural and on trend products and materials. I provide creative design solutions while aim-ing to stay true to my values as a designer. I put emphasis on the materials I choose to create spaces that feel warm, inviting and experiential.

TAFE was a great experience for me where I found an appreciation for quality materials and finishes and a love for good design. My dream is to work for a company that challenges me, ide-ally with a focus on sustainability. Meanwhile, I am putting my skills in to practice in the planning/building of my own home.

L a u r e n S h i e l d s - G r a p h i c D e s i g nI’m excited to be involved in a creative industry after a big career move from the Defence Force. I am passionate about developing carefully considered design strategies to clearly communicate client messages and place a strong focus on typographical layout and hierarchy. I love using interesting colour themes and am happiest when combining my illustrative or hand-lettering talents into my design solutions. I loved studying Graphic Design at NMTAFE, and was so im-pressed by the calibre of the instructors and their genuine passion for the success of their students. I was chuffed to win the 2018 Travis Walker Memorial Award and be accept-ed into the International Society of Typographic Designers.lauren-shields.com @laurenshieldsdesign

D a n i e l a T o r q u e t e - G r a p h i c D e s i g nAs a designer, I stand for possibilities, I stand for good communication, and for giving voice to a client’s story, brand, and idea. I appreciate fearless design and I am not afraid to explore a client’s idea, helping to take that to the next level. My focus goes far beyond a design that looks great, my purpose is also to create a piece of work with meaning, no matter what the brief.

I am now interning and freelancing. Daniela was awarded the honour of ‘Lead Graphic Design-er” for the NMTAFE 2018 Art & Design catalogue which she executed with world class skill and mastery. “Having to design different spreads that meet the needs of graduating students to expose their work both horizontally & vertically became a lovely challenge.”

D a v e W a l t e r s - P h o t o g r a p h yDon’t Tell Me How To FeelI have been completely immersed in the photographic indus-try during the past few years. Named Student of the Year in 2017, I have been awarded at both State (AIPP WAEPPA Gold with Distinction Print Award 2018) and National levels (2 x AIPP APPA National Silver Print Awards 2018). These still images represent a larger body of work, a personal project that explores themes of social anxiety, identity and sense of self through conceptual photographs comprising a series of 24 still images (5 of which on display) and further cross media components which come together to produce a short film presentation.

A m e l i a W e l l s - I n t e r i o r D e s i g n“Take a risk. Don’t always play it safe. Great things never come from comfort zones”. I keep this in mind whenever I am designing a space. It is a philosophy that has resonated throughout my life. It is a reminder to be bold, authentic and impactful. Throughout my studies at NMTAFE, I have gained a comprehensive list of skills, with a great balance between the technical and creative. This has equipped me with a well-rounded skills-set ranging from conceptual drawings to documentation, 3D modelling to presentations.I welcome the challenge of creating something completely unique and innovative, that pushes the boundaries. It is all about evoking emotion and creating an experience the minute you walk into one of my spaces. Good design is not only about meeting the brief for function and form but also boldly creative, carefully considered and meticulously exe-

cuted. Through my designs, I aim to enhance the experience of what it means to live well.

Their films, with a range of subject matter, are the result of many long hours in pre-production, shooting & locked away in the dark confines of the editing & sound suites. Hopefully the results speak eloquently of their ambitions and aspirations as a talented group of emerging filmmakers ready to make their mark on Australian film and television.Rylee Bannan, Scott Bell, Eric K.
