Shek Mun Campus Library (SMCL)
The Shek Mun Campus Library (SMCL) is a branch of the Hong Kong Baptist University Library. It is established to provide quality information resources and services in support of the College of International Education's teaching and learning activities. This library aims to meet the growing information demand in the development of the CIE managed by the School of Continuing Education of HKBU on Shek Mun Campus.
C O L L E C T I O N S
The SMCL collection includes general books, serials and multimedia materials. All English items are classified by the Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme. Chinese books are classified by the Chinese Library Classification (中國圖書館分類法). All books in the General Collection can be checked out of the Library for a specified loan period, except for those which are designated as “Non-Circulating”.

Users may consult the duty libarian who will assist you with reference information and services. Active user education programmes are also offered to Shek Mun Campus staff and students to facilitate the effective use of library information resources and services.

The Shek Mun Campus Library, which has a floor area of approximately 2,500 square meters, is located on Level 4 of HKBU Shek Mun Campus Building.

Reference and User Education
Staff at Circulation Counter will help you complete check-in and check-out of Library materials, the Group Viewing Rooms and Multi-Purpose Room. Students can pick up HOLD books, borrow course reserve materials that are recommended by lecturers for course reading or assignments at the counter.

Currently, there are about 50,000 volumes of books, 100 print journal subscriptions and over 3,000 multimedia materials in a variety of formats including CD-ROMs, videocassettes, VCDs, and DVDs.
Book DropA 24-hour book drop is provided near the main entrance of the SMCL. Non-overdue general books from SMCL or the Main Library can be returned to this book drop. Please return audio-visual materials at the SMCL counter because they are easily damaged in the book drop.

C O N T A C T U S
Two height-adjustable tables with special equipment for the visually or physically impaired are available in the Library. In addition to a multimedia PC, a CCTV magnifying device, a scanner, a Braille, and a Braille printer are provided. Users with special needs are welcome to enquire at the counter for assistance.

There are AV carrels equipped with a full set of AV equipment for viewing and listening to multimedia materials. Users must register at the counter for using the carrels. They should obtain approval from Library staff in advance if they want to use their personal materials for studying purposes.

To further enhance the computing facilities to users, SMCL has a laptop loaning service. The laptops are equipped with wireless cards allowing users to access the Wi-Fi in the Library.
SMCL has a reader capacity of about 350 seats, including those in AV carrels, Group Viewing Rooms, Multi-Purpose Room, newspaper and journal reading area.

The Multi-Purpose Room that accomodates up to 15 persons is equipped with audio-visual equipment and an LCD projector with an electronic screen for instruction use. Online reservation is availble; walk-in users may register at the Circulation Counter provided that the room is available.

Octopus card photocopying machines are available in the Library. Please be reminded to observe the Copyright Ordinance pertaining to photocopying practices.

Students with an Office of Information Technology (ITO) account can simply log on with the assigned ID and password. Library users without an ITO account can purchase the Library Printing Card at the Circulation Counter for access to networked printing.

Learning Support ServicesAs a continuous effort to support teaching and learning, the following fee-basis services are available to users:- Networked Colour Laser Printing/Copying- Lamination- Thermo Binding
Library users can submit print jobs of A4 size document to the designated printer/copier in SMCL as long as the personal laptop is connected to Wi-Fi network in the Library or on Campus.
Wi-Fi Printing
The Leisure Reading Corner is an area with books donated by staff and students. It is intended to promote recreational and reading interest of users. Fiction and non-fiction for popular reading are collected through donation.
The ESS Corner aims to provide students with one-to-one assistance in any aspect of English learning. Please make an appointment with English lecturers directly at least 2 days in advance.
