Given below are a few of my projects and personal work in product design and other fields.
Sokany Iron Redesign
Brief: to redesign the Sokany Steam Iron.
After initial market gap analysis , our group of 3 decided to focus on creating a non-professional, innovative product keeping in mind constraints like the target audience, aesthetic appeal and expense. The final product aimed to minimise risk of burning, burden of storagestorage and concentrated on aesthetic appeal.I created the final mockup with foam.
+We based our concept on the shape of a mouse, keeping in mind ergonomic grip and pressure on the wrist and decreasing the need to move the hands excessively.+We also fashioned the tip in a way that it would be easier to see small corners.+Also, elimination of a stand and introduction of a storage bag minimised contact with the hot base.
Socomore: SocoGrip
Brief: to reimagine the packaging for socowipes, a product of Socomore, a pre-saturated chemical wipes manufacturer known internationally.
My teammate and I decided to concentrate on the ergonomic aspect of the packaging as it was quite flawed. We focussed on a safe opening system to prevent the chemical from seeping out, better grip due to the size of the product and easier transport of the pouch containing the product.
+We came up with various ideas to reimagine the product based on our brainstorming. Our ideas were based on the new doritos packaging concept (socogrip), a baby monkey and second skin (socoskin) and an accordian (socosqueeze). We settled on SocoGrip.+The opening system was an efficient locking system based on the Neolid cap (with their permission), to prevent leakage of any kind.
The product render was created on SolidWorks by my teammate and I.
I created the labelling for the different chemicals. The anti slip grip seals the opening tightly
The manufacturing is done by blow moulding.
The user Scenario. Technical Plan of top
Socomore: SocoGrip
In the initial stage of ideation, we had a few ideas which we decided later to drop because they were not ergonomical.
Our labelling was designd by me. The labelling was made so that the colours would differentiate between the chemicals used.
Mapapps Goa
Brief: to create an app for cyclists in Goa to dsicover Goa in an interesting, interactive way.
We decided to create an interactive map where the cyclists have the option to choose the mode depending on their preferences, each mode being their guide animal. They can also meet the locals and other cyclists. The app also encourages fitness by offering discounts at certain destinations provided the cyclist gets there in a certain time.

An Ideal World?
Brief: The challenge was to represent each individual , who may appear the same outwardly and fit in but are in fact different
My model translates the concept if change literally by having a form that indicates movement and by using colours that are dynamic and encourage movement of the eye, to depict change.
+The priority was given to the process and tyring to fit the individual pieces together. By doing this I am creating a harmony and a unified piece.+The shapes represent each individual , who may appear the same outwardly and fit in but are in fact different.+Also, the model and the construction is such that on viewing it from different directions, one is constantly seeing something different, thus iterating my idea of utopia.
Glass Tumbler Packaging
Brief: to create packaging for a fragile product.
For my packagin course I decided to take two glass tumblers and redesign them to explore the idea of whether they could be worth coveting and displayed. I also wanted to keep in mind the transportation risks and adaptable storage.
+The harmonica-like shape and tight hold frame on the top and bottom ensures maximum shock absorption.+The shape also ensures variety in storage options in such a way that the same needn’t be locked away in a cupboard as it is aesthetic.+I created two display options keeping in mind that the customer sees only 1/6th of the product on the market shelves.
Frugal design
Brief: My teammate and I took the concept of frugality in energy and decided to tackle the problem by creating a self sustaining energy system using the power of wind and gravity.
Using a stepper motor, weights are dropped slowly, generating the energy. When there is wind, the weights stop and are lifted back to position (as long as there is a wind blowing). Thus the system ideally self sustains.
We wanted a to create a manual of sorts, compiling our information as a final output in the form of posters.
+We first created a system to generate electricity through gravity that could power LEDs. Then we created a functioning windmill system. All that was left were the clutch mechanisms that would connect the two.+We worked with Drishya, a school where children from poor economic backgrounds receive vocational training to have better opportunities in the future, and taught them basic physics.

Biomimicry
In this class, we learnt how to take Nature as an inspiration for design. We mimicked a particular trait of an animal depending on the purpose of the product.
The first product was a shoe based on the sting of a lionfish , The second a shelter for cramped spaces based on the division of space in praire dog towns,
BlueSky Thinking: Virtual WallBrief: Keeping in mind the current growth of population, I predicted that in 30 years, privacy would become something of a luxury. The idea of the virtual wall is that it is not feasible to keep building walls every time one needs his or her own space. This wall is a hologram that comes out from an aluminium base that is light and hence easy to carry.
I also kept in mind the growing trend of noise cancellation which is used in headphones and other such closed environments. It works on the concept of absorption of a sound and reflection in the opposite frequency, thus cancelling the sound.
Thus the noise would also be minimal. The fact that it is a hologram means the separation is mobile safe for children and not permanent. My Virtual Wall, for privacy when there is limited
space.
Book Cover Design
I also redesigned the cover pages of one of my favourite books, ‘The Historian’, keeping in mind that the main themes of the book are the broken narrative flitting through different time periods, the infamous ruler Vlad the Impaler and communications through old letters. Symbolism is an important tool used by the author. I tried experimenting with mediums other than the conventional medium. I used illustrations and block- prints as part of my experiments.

Promotional Printwork
I interned at Smudge Designs, based in Chennai.During this stint I was asked to reimagine the mango festival and the mexican food festival at the Raintree hotel. The following are the posters I created for the same.

Story Book Design
Below are a few pages from two stories for which I designed the layout. The stories were aimed at young children and the language was simple. I wanted to make the illustrations fun and enable the easy movement of the eye while reading the page. This was done for a children’s book..(Later on, I was made to do some other illustrations but I preferred these and hence have put them up). Watercolours.were my medium.
