FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

On behalf of the FDP team, the first FDP of the year was held on July 4,

2017, in Room No. 104. Dr. Sumi Jha took the four-hour session on

Research Methodology. This session was interactive and enriching for the

participants.

BOOK EXHIBITION

The monthly book exhibition was organized by the GNIMS Library 0n July

12 - 13, 2017 from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm in the Library Reading Room.

Many Students and faculties visited the book exhibition and

recommended books for the library.

HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS!!! .

Finance students Batch 2016-2018, who were selected for a finance

project by Dun and Bradstreet, Mumbai are Akshay Gandhi, Baldeo

Chaudhary, Khyati Patel, Khushboo Pant, Pooja Salaskar, Rutuja Patil,

Simran Kaur, and Meenakshi Bhatia. Heartiest Congratulations to all the

INDUCTION PROGRAM – Part-Time Courses

(MMM/MFM/MHRDM), Batch 2017-2020 .

Induction for Part-Time Courses was held on July 23, 2017 in G. N. Khalsa

College Seminar Hall, from 10.00 am to 2.30 pm. After the lightening of

the lamp and the prayer song, the students were given a welcome address

by Dr. Bigyan O. Verma, Director of the Institute. The alumni of the

Institute also addressed the students after which the present Class

Representatives welcomed the students. The Chief Guest Mr. Sachin

addressed the students, after which the students were given the tour of

the Institute, explaining the various facilities available in for them.

LIBRARY ORIENTATION – PART-TIME STUDENTS .

The Part-Time Students were given a Library Orientation by Prof. Kuljeet

G. Kahlon, Library Manager, in the Library Premises on July 23, 2017. The

Orientation was conducted in two batches. The students were given

detailed explanations about the Library Services, Library Rules and

Regulations, about Issue-Return of Books, Library Resources, etc.

The students were also given the tour of the library, to gain practical

knowledge about where the books and Journals are sacked in the various

racks, Reading Hall, Journal Section as well as the Stack Area. The

students were also introduced to two life-time members Mr. Shailender

Singh Phul and Ms. Jharna Pandya of the Library and they shared their

experience in utilizing the Library Resources.

INDUCTION PROGRAM – PGDM BATCH 2017-2019 .

GNIMS B-school inaugurated its new PGDM Batch 2017-19 with a 6-day

induction program from July 27, 2017 till August 2, 2017. The induction

program helped students frame the right mindset for their journey of two

years. All the sessions were well received by the students with good vigor

and enthusiasm. The induction comprised of the following.

Day: 01

The induction program started with the addressal of our Director Dr.

Bigyan Prakash Verma. He spoke and addressed the students about

teaching and developing Managerial Skills and Leadership Skills. The

students will learn to do small things in a big way. The Course will provide

you to think about what really matters and will teach you what is desired

by the Industry. Students need to peruse your learning in a passionate

way and behave in a disciplined Professional Manner.

The Chief Guest invited was Ms. Smita Affinwalla (Founder and Managing

Director of Illuminos Consulting Private Limited). She has over thirty

years of experience divided between the Financial Services Industry and

HR. Today, Success is defined in a more boarder way. She cautioned the

students not to be biased and to keep an open mind. She also said to

maintain relations with everyone and not to ignore anyone. The

transaction from college life to corporate / work life is enormous.

The effect / preparation required for this is lots more than bookish

knowledge. PGDM Course is more flexible and Industry orientated and it

teaches you to learn the current Market Trends. She advised the students

not to blindly join any company, to think about the project for the

Summer Internship. Reaching out for better projects will assist in getting

better Final Placements.

For Final Placement Students need to keep in mind the following – Brand,

Role / JD, Location, your Life Expectations, Aspirations and Financial

benefits. Before making a final decision, one need to talk to many people

and take their inputs.

A new concept Learning Agility is the need of the hour and corporates are

very keen to select students with these skills. This is also linked to

leadership abilities. Every single experience is a learning, which can’t be

learned in any classroom. To have courage to make bold or unusual

moves and to learn from failures, asking questions and building relations

should be the most important priority in the student’s life.

This was followed by introduction of the GNIMS Teaching and Non-

Teaching Staff. The next activity was an ice breaker conducted by Prof.

Sagaljit Kaur and Prof. Imran Siddiqui. This activity aimed to encourage

students to know each other and talk in front of the class.

For the second half of the day the students were engaged by Dr. Gurjeet

Multani, Dean Career Development Cell & HR. She and her team of staff

and students not only addressed student regarding placement process

but they also had an interactive session on team creativity

Day: 02

Day two was engaged by 6 industry practitioners for an Inbound

Experiential Learning Program. They made students go through various

activities to sensitize them on self-awareness and team building. This

session was conducted by Mr. Yateen Gharat.

Day: 03

Day three had two distinguished alumni of GNIMS invited to interact

with the new batch of students. The session was co-ordinated by the

Alumni Committee of GNIMS. The second half of the day the students

had to go through a workshop on ‘Know Your Leadership Skills’ by Mr.

Sushil Chander (HR Advisor and Coach).

Day: 04

Day four was the library day which included session on Library

Orientation by Prof. Kuljit Kaur, a guest lecture on ‘How to Develop

Reading Skills’ by Ms. Jyotsna Sawant and a computer based training

session on ProQuest by Mr. Sachin More.

Day: 05

Day five had students going through Sessions on Careers in various

specializations like Finance, Marketing, HR, IT & Operations. Every

Faculty-In Charge accompanied by all the Area Faculty Members went

and interacted with the students.

Day: 06

Day six started with an orientation of the Student Handbook by the

Course Co-ordinator. This was followed by a session on Examination

System by Prof. Bins Mathew & Prof. Ritu Tuli. The second half of the

day the students had a Session on ‘Management Lessons Through

Movies’ conducted by Prof. Annie Pillai. The induction schedule

concluded by a session on ‘Learning through Cases’ by Dr. Bigyan P.

Verma.

SEBI Visit of GNIMS B School .

MMS and PGDM second year Finance students visited SEBI on July 30,

2017. There was an opportunity to interact with Mr. Sahil Malik, DGM

SEBI and Mr. Yazdi Peer, AGM SEBI. Session was very interactive and

knowledge oriented. Students came to know about many real facts and

figures about financial markets. We look forward for more such visits in

future.

LIBRARY ORIENTATION .

On July 31, 2017, PGDM Students Batch 2017-2019 were orientated by

Prof. Kuljeet G. Kahlon about the GNIMS Library. She gave a PowerPoint

Presentation on the Library Resources available in the Library. She

explained about the rules and regulations of the Library, the procedure

for making Library Cards as well as the Book Issue-Return Procedure. A

Quiz was conducted at the end to check the student’s presence of mind.

HOW TO DEVELOP READING SKILLS .

GNIMS Library organized a session for the PGDM Batch 2017-2019 on

July 31, 2017 from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. The session on “How to

Develop Reading Skills” was conducted by Ms. Jyotsna Sawant.

This was a very interactive session where students were asked to read

passages and take count of how many words they could read in given

time. This was done to calculate their speed of reading. The session also

covered the Nature of Reading, Speed Reading, calculating your Reading

skills, Pitfalls that causes slow reading, Book Overview, Preview and

review also note taking while reading.

There was group activity wherein, the students had to read a small article

and prepare a poster on the article, explaining the article in the form of

keywords and diagram. Students enthusiastically participated in all the

activities and the session was a huge success.

PROQUEST TRAINING .

Mr. Sachin More from ProQuest gave a training to the students on “How

to use the Online Database ProQuest”. He gave an online demonstration

on the Basic Search and the Advanced Search. Students were encouraged

to use the online database for their Assessments, Summer and Final

Projects.

WORKSHOP ATTENDED .

Prof. Kuljeet G. Kahlon, Library Manger, attended a ICSSR (WRC)

Sponsored National Workshop on Research Methodology in Social

Science, at Gokhale Education Society’s College of Education and

Research, Parel, Mumbai - 400 012., from July 31, 2017 to August 5,

2017. Sessions were conducted on various aspects of Research

Methodology – Research Design; Research Problem, Selection & Research

Process; Structure of Research Writing; Online Literature Search; Mix

Method Research; Qualitative Research Method; Case Study Method;

Application of SPSS in Social Science Research; Data Analysis and

Interpretation; Quantitative Research Method; Sampling Methods and

Techniques; Hypothesis Testing; Citation Styles; Use of Zetero in

Referencing and Report Writing in Research.
