Northwest College of Construction (NWCOC), is the school

of choice for construction craft, technical, safety, supervisory

and management professionals. Founded in 2005 by the

region’s four largest construction trade associations, NWCOC

meets the education and training needs of the industry. As a

private, non-profit technical and career school, the College

serves new and veteran craftworkers as well as emerging

and experienced supervisors, managers and leaders.

At NWCOC, students obtain education and training to be

high performing workers. Employers gain the skilled workers

needed to build a strong company and compete in the

marketplace. Together, we build construction careers.

“I found the classes professionally presented, informative and interesting. I truly appreciate the wide variety and high quality of information. I recommend the Northwest College of Construction as an outstanding training resource.”

— Jimmy Stewart, Field Operations Manager

Attracting & Training the Next Generation Northwest College of Construction is dedicated to helping students and lifelong learners build strong, successful careers in construction. We are one of the few colleges with capabilities to provide students support throughout their entire career, spanning from apprenticeship to business leadership.

NWCOC provides students with the learning experience they need to make an informed decision about their future and career. In the process of learning one of the nine construction trades, they will learn key academic knowledge (construction math, communication skills) as well as fundamental employability skills, and if interested, they can launch supervisory/management careers!

A career in construction is not just another job, it’s a promise for an exciting, challenging and rewarding future.

NWCOC helps attract and cultivate a diverse and skilled workforce. Join us in building the next generation of contractors.

“I could not be more excited about this!! NWCOC is a wonderful partner and I look forward to developing our partnership even more in the future. This is SO good for our kids! Thank you.”

— Dr. Karen Gray, Superintendent, Parkrose High School

Apprenticeship & Craft TrainingOur craft programs teach craftworkers every- thing they need to know to master core trade skills, tools and equipment to deliver quality work, safely. Apprentice programs require a minimum of 144 hours of classroom instruction and hands-on lab/shop training per year plus 4,000 to 8,000 hours of on-the-job (OJT) training (generally 2000 hours per year) depending on the program. Apprentices that graduate from one of the nine trade programs enter the field as a well trained journeyman with a solid educational and practical foundation.

NWCOC is the largest administrator of state reg-istered apprenticeship programs administered in Oregon and an authorized program adminis-trator in Washington. We are recognized in both states for our quality instruction, outreach and recruitment of women and minority candidates and most importantly, for delivering education and training that employers value.

Apprenticeships:• Carpenters (Portland & Eugene Programs)• Concrete Finishers• Construction Laborers• Heavy Equipment Operators• Masons (Brick/Block)

• Sign Hangers• Tile Trades• HVAC Technicians• Sheet Metal Technicians

Employers/Training Agents: Contractors who are seeking well trained ap-prentices can inquire about becoming a Training Agent (TA). As a registered TA, employers reap the value of investing in a skilled workforce, from a pool of candidates educated in the classroom and on-the-job, by experienced and passionate instructors. Funding may also be available to journeymen for upgrading their skills.
