PASTOR’S CORNER

Over the past few months, we have been focusing on heightening the awareness of all parishioners that the Nave (main area of the church) and our Totus Tuus Marian Chapel, are the most sacred of spaces. And our maintaining a respectful and prayerful silence should be a primary concern of ours whenever we are present. Inside the beautiful Golden Tabernacle on the altar, the Real Presence of our Savior, Jesus Christ, reposes. And, in repose, He is worthy of, and…He is most desirous of…our prayerful belief; our heartfelt hope; our longing adoration; and our genuine expressions of love and respect. An “Act of Reparation” prayer was taught to the three young Fatima seers by the Archangel, prior to Our Lady appearing to them. Referred to now, as the Fatima Prayer, through its words, we have been made acutely aware that the Earthly Eucharistic Presence of her Son, Who is present in all the tabernacles on earth, has been greatly and sacrilegiously offended by us humans. Let’s look at what is said in that angelic prayer:

“Most Holy Trinity, Father Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly. I offer you the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the Tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifference by which He is offended. And through the infinite merit of His Most Sacred Heart, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of poor sinners.“

We need to take to heart this quite clear message, that calls for all of us to avoid being among the “Offenders” by any display of indifference or disrespect when we are in the church. Let us pray this Reparation Prayer often and remember that respectful, prayerful silence is indeed golden. Critically important is the time of gathering before Mass, and then again at the conclusion of the Holy Mass. Any emergent need to communicate should be done in a respectful whisper. Please don’t think of your respectful silence as some kind of a deprivation or discipline, but as a deepening of your belief in the central mystery of your Catholic Faith. What we do…sets the standard for all the young children of the parish. So let us remember, and convey to others, that the Glorified Resurrected Body of Jesus has been gifted to us for reverent access, petition and prayer…until the end of time.

Eucharistic Adoration is one of the greatest gifts we as a parish (and each of us as a parishioner) can offer up in much needed reparation as requested by Our Blessed Mother at Fatima. With the devoted leadership of Mrs. Carol Borz, we have made great strides to build towards our parish “Perpetual Adoration” goal. Currently we have two monthly 24 hour Eucharistic Exposition periods in effect. These take place immediately after the 8:00 AM Mass on both the First and Third Friday of each month. Benediction and Reposition takes place on the Saturday morning following, at 9:00 AM. We are in the process of starting up a third 24 Hour Adoration to take place each month. Obviously, the “key” to achieving this is to have more parishioners open up their life to spending at least one hour monthly in front of Our Eucharistic Lord. The benefits, the blessings that accrue to those who do so are myriad. Won’t you please give it a try. Do you want more peace, healing and love in your family and your life? Christ is the answer! If you would like to get involved and change your life for the better, please call Carol Borz at (904) 589-8134.

I came across the eloquent writings of Cardinal Cosimo Corsi, devoted to the need to reverence His Real Presence…which I will share with you in an August “Corner”.

Yours in Our Risen Savior,

DID YOU KNOW? The great heritage of faith is entrusted to the whole of the Church. The apostles were given to share the “Sacred Deposit” that is the Sacred Scripture and Tradition. In maintaining, professing, and practicing the faith that has been handed on, there exists a harmony between the Magisterium and the faithful. CCC# 84-85

MILITARY PRAYER LIST

VENERATION OF FIRST-CLASS RELICS

In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions of Fatima, the Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre de Dios invites you for a weekend of prayer and liturgical celebrations with the veneration of First-Class Relics of St. John Paul II and St. Padre Pio on August 5th & 6th. Flyers have been posted on the bulletin boards with a complete schedule of events for these two days.

THE SAINT JOHN’S BIBLE

The Saint John’s Bible is the only handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned by a Benedictine Monastery since the advent of the printing press more than 500 years ago. The Bible contains seven volumes and encompasses 1,165 pages with 160 major illuminations. While the original manuscript is at St. John’s Abbey and University in Collegeville, MN, there are 299 sets of the Heritage Edition, which are true to the scale, beauty, and artistic intent of the original. St. Catherine Catholic Church on Kingsley will be hosting one volume of the Heritage Edition, Gospels & Acts. In this volume, the life of Christ and the journey of the early Church are explored in theologically rich and startling new ways that invite ongoing reflection. The Bible will be at St. Catherine’s during the months of July and August. Everyone is invited to attend any of the special events centered around the Bible that St. Catherine’s is hosting over the next eight weeks. Event schedule flyers are on the tables in the Narthex or visit www.stcatherineop.com.
