DESCRIPTION

Does your company design sheet metal parts? Do you need a better understanding of how to model those parts using synchronous sheet metal design? If so, then this hands-on session is for you. We will walk through step by step modeling a complex sheet metal using Solid Edge ST5. We will look at specific workflows and techniques to improve your productivity designing sheet metal parts in synchronous technology. Even if you have legacy files that you want to be able to modify in a synchronous way, we will walk through when and how to move sheet metal features to the synchronous environment for faster edits. Once you understand these techniques, you won’t want to design sheet metal parts in any other way! If you attended last year, you may have seen some of this information before, but don’t let that keep you from coming back and learning something new.

Presenter background

Presenter background:

Doug Stainbrook is the team leader for the Solid Edge Field Support Team. This group is the technical resource for supporting Solid Edge pre-sales activities around the world. Before coming to the Solid Edge team, he spent about 10 years as a designer for various industries. In 1999, Doug was hired as a Solid Edge Application Engineer in Philadelphia, PA. In 2000, he came to Huntsville, AL, to the home of Solid Edge to work in the Field Support group.

Areas of Expertise:

Synchronous and Ordered Part and Sheet Metal modeling

Our Challenge

Design challenges to be solved

Design and model a sheet metal enclosure in the context of an assembly

How Solid Edge meets the challenge

Solid Edge is the best solution for modeling sheet metal parts. The synchronous tools and process specific sheet metal commands make modeling sheet metal parts quick and easy in Solid Edge!

Pulling Flanges from the top level

In Solid Edge ST5 you can drag flanges from the assembly level on synchronous sheet metal parts

Switch to Face Priority (CTRL + Spacebar)

Select the four thickness faces to drag all flanges at once

After selecting the first face, press the spacebar for add/subtract mode

No need to hold down the CTRL or Shift keys to multi-select
