Setting up Microsoft NetMeeting
When you run NetMeeting for the first time, you will need to do a quick setup before you
can use it to make video calls.
To start NetMeeting, click on the Start button on the bottom left corner of Windows andselect Run. Type in confand clickOK.
ClickNext to continue.

On its first run, you will be prompted to enter your information in My directoryinformation box. After entering your information, clickNext to continue.

Select Local Area Network option. ClickNext to continue.

Select the appropriate wave device. ClickNext to continue.

Turn on your speakers and click on Test to see if sound is coming out of the speakers. Ifthere is no sound, click on Backto go to the previous screen and select a different
Playback wave device. If there is sound, clickNext to continue. (If you do not plan on
using speakers or do not have one, just clickNext to continue.)
Speak the above phrase into your microphone. If you cannot speak, just use your finger
and tap on the microphone. You should see the color changes in the bar. If you do not see

the color changes, click on Backtwice and select a different Recording wave device. Ifyou see the color changes in the bar, clickNext to continue. (If you do not plan on using
the microphone or do not have one, just clickNext to continue. If the next dialog box says
your microphone is not plugged in, click on Next again.)
ClickFinish to start NetMeeting. When you run NetMeeting the next time, you will notsee the dialog boxes shown above.

In order to use Netmeeting at PSI, you must set up the gatekeeper[ aragorn.psi.ch ]
using the Advanced Calling options,
click Tools > Options to get this window.

Set the gatekeeper name [aragorn.psi.ch ] and give yourself an account name, i.e. yourPSI internal phone number.

Once you start NetMeeting, there is one more step that you need to do before you can
make a video call.Click on Tools from the menu bar and select Options. Then press the Video tab to get
this window:

Check both boxes forAutomatically send/receive video at the start of each call . It isbest to keep the Send Image Size at its medium setting. Selecting "large" will decrease
the quality of your video on the other end and make it harder for the other party to see
you. Drag the bar to Better quality in the Video quality box. You should see your videocameras name in the Video camera properties box. If you do not, change it to display
your video cameras name. ClickOKto close the dialog box.

Now it is time to test your video. Click on blue play button and you will see yourself inthe video box. (If you do not, clickTools from the menu bar and select Options. Then
press the Video tab and make sure you select the right camera in the Video cameraproperties: the video capture device I want to use is: box.)
Thats it! You are ready to make a video call.
Windows SP2 Firewall Exception Settings
By default, Windows Firewall is turned on in Windows XP SP2. Before you can use the
Remote Desktop Sharing feature of Windows NetMeeting when Windows Firewall isturned on, you have to add an entry for Windows NetMeeting and an entry for the
Mnmsrvc.exe file to the Programs and Services list on the Exceptions tab of Windows
Firewall. You will need Local Admin Rights to perform this operation or see yourDesktop Supporter.
To do this, follow these steps:

1. Use one of the following methods to add an entry for Windows NetMeeting,
depending on your situation:
When you start Windows NetMeeting for the first time after you upgrade
your computer to Windows XP SP2, click Unblock in the Windows
Security Alert dialog box that appears. To manually add Windows NetMeeting to the Programs and Services list,
follow these steps:
a. Click Start, click Run, type firewall.cpl in the Open box, and then
click OK.
b. Click the Exceptions tab.c. Click Add Program, and then click Browse.
d. In the Browse dialog box, locate the Drive:\Program
Files\NetMeeting folder, click conf.exe, click Open, and then clickOK.
e. Verify that conf.exe is listed in the Programs and Services list on
the Exceptions tab, and verify that the conf.exe check box isselected.
f. Click OK.
2. Add an entry for the Mnmsrvc.exe file to the Programs and Services list on the
Exceptions tab. To do this, follow these steps:a. Click Start, click Run, type firewall.cpl in the Open box, and then click
OK.
b. Click the Exceptions tab.c. Click Add Program, and then click Browse.
d. In the Browse dialog box, locate the Drive:\WINDOWS\System32 folder,
click mnmsrvc.exe, click Open, and then click OK.e. Verify that mnmsrvc.exe is listed in the Programs and Services list on theExceptions tab, and verify that the mnmsrvc.exe check box is selected.
f. Click OK.
Switch Test
Dial 0041 807 510 (Switch)
and you should see yourself (if you have a webcam).
