SESTEC 2016Emerging Trends In Separation Science And Technology

The seventh biennial symposium on “Emerging Trends in Separation Science and Technology” (ASSET-2016) is being organized by the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy in association with the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati (IITG), Guwahati and the Association of Separation Scientists and Technologists (ASSET) during May 17-20, 2016 at IITG, Guwahati, Assam, India. The objective of SESTEC-2016 is to provide a forum to scientists and engineers to discuss the recent advances in the area of separation science and technology relevant to the nuclear fuel cycle activities such as separation of actinides, lanthanides and fission products and speciation of actinides. The expected participation of scientists and engineers from National Laboratories, Universities and Research Institutes from India and abroad in the symposium facilitates effective interaction among the experts and young researchers engaged in research in the areas of separation science and technology.

Presentations will encompass basic studies and applications and will address topics of novel issues. The scientific programme of the symposium will include Invited talks by eminent Indian and Overseas scientists. Contributed papers will be presented in Oral and Poster sessions and the best oral & poster presentations will be selected for the awards. There will be a special session on “Simulation Studies on Separation Processes” which includes different types of computational and modelling studies for separations. Abstract of the contributed papers will be peer reviewed prior to inclusion in the symposium proceedings. Limited number of papers will be selected for consideration for journal publication in reputed journals such as “Separation Science and Technology” (papers dealing with general separation), “Radiochimica Acta” (papers dealing with radioactivity) and “Chemical Product and Process Modelling” (papers dealing with theoretical and computational studies). The authors will be intimated in advance about the selection of their contributions for consideration of journal publication. The next day after the conclusion of the symposium (21st May, 2016) has been made available for sight-seeing program. Details of the program will be announced at the time of symposium. Those who are interested for guided tours can contact the local organizers well in advance. A conference banquet will be arranged on the 3rd day (19th May, 2016) of the symposium.

THE VENUEIndian Institute of Technology, Guwahati

The symposium will be held in the Conference Centre at IIT-Guwahati, Assam, India. Guwahati, the capital city of Assam state is one of the corridors of evergreen North-Eastern states of India. It is situated on the bank of mighty river Brahmaputra and is well connected to major cities of India by Air as well as by Train. The weather of Guwahati is very pleasant during the month of May.Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995. Within a short period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up world class infrastructure for carrying out advanced research and has been equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and engineering instruments. Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati’s campus is on a sprawling 285 hectares plot of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 km. from the heart of the city. With the majestic Brahmaputra on one side, and with hills and vast open spaces on others, the campus provides an ideal setting for learning.
