Sabbath ReminderAs we move on through the year, don’t forget some of the important lessons we have learned about the practice of Sabbath. Sabbath was made for people. It is a gift from God. It was never meant to be restrictive, as the Pharisees made it, but rather restorative. It liberates us from the tyranny of work, it re-creates us into the image of Christ, it helps us rehearse Heaven itself. So pick a day and plan a sabbath. When you do, pick up one of our Sabbath magnets at Information Central so you can keep track of which spiritual practices you’ve completed this year. Stay tuned for four other spiritual challenges.

Human Foosball RecapPlayers of all ages lined up last Sunday to participate in the amazing sport of Human Foosball, all in support of the Village of Hope. Twenty-two teams battled it out for victory! Overall 132 people participated, with many more cheering them on! Despite the fierce rivalries, much fun was had by all! The event was able to raise close to $1,000 to benefit children in Ghana, Africa. Mark your calendars for 2020, practicing your kicking skills tethered to a pole, and be prepared for battle at our next Human Foosball event!

Heritage Church of Christ UpdateHeritage Church of Christ has officially met for six Sunday mornings at the Heritage Elementary School off Broadway and Sorghum Mill Road in north Edmond. During this short time, our attendance has grown from 89 to 107 people. Heritage had 70 adults and children place membership in the spring and has gained six new members since the school launch. We have about 30 regularly attending non-members or first-time guests each week.

Our children’s staff is high quality. Our Journey Land 1st-5th grade class has exploded and will soon be split into 1st&2nd and 3rd-5th grade groups. We have nursery classes, a preschool program, a youth group, enough college kids to need their own gathering, and an adult class. A steering committee of four men was recently put in place to work closely with our minister and the MRCC elder oversight team. Heritage feels like a family in the best kind of way. Hospitality at Memorial RoadLast Sunday, over 175 guest hospitality volunteers attended an appreciation lunch. This included door greeters, auditorium section greeters, the Information Central team, First Cup hospitality volunteers, Bible class hosts, Involvement team, and our Campus and Youth Ministries. While expressing thanks, time was spent reinforcing what we do to be a guest-welcoming church family. Last month “Secret Shopper” guests, who had not attended MRCC before, came to give us feedback after their Sunday morning guest experience. The feedback was positive, but we learned it can be intimidating as a guest if you don’t already have a connection. We are blessed to average 159 local guests each Sunday plus 80 from out of town, meaning that over 10% of people on Sundays are guests, some have little or no previous church experience. If you are not a volunteer for a specific guest hospitality task, you are still an important part of the team! Your greeting and smile for a guest in the auditorium, hallways, or Bible class may be the key to a guest returning and coming to know Jesus. Thank you! -Terry Fischer
