Every day when we walk down the street, we encounter people who have lost their moorings. Sometimes they frighten us, sometimes they amuse us, but most of the time we ignore them. Then something snaps, and emotional distress becomes emotional crisis: a bizarre assault, a ritualized murder, a suicide attempt...

One of these cops is Detective-Sergeant Aidan Black, a brilliant homicide inspector who begins to worry his bosses when he’s involved in two fatal shootings in the line of duty. Due to his own battle with mental illness, he’s transferred to the Psych Crimes Unit, where cops and psychiatrists join forces to prevent and solve crimes involving unbalanced individuals. Aidan is partnered with Dr. Daniella Ridley, the head of the unit, who knows that when psychosis spills over into crime, police and psychiatric professionals who work separately are soon out of their depth.

Aidan and Daniella prove to be a congenial team. It’s not just the combination of Aidan’s police work and Daniella’s psychiatric skills. Aidan’s sharpened empathy can put him inside the mindset of a delusional psychotic, while Daniella’s methodical attention to detail helps her pick up on clues that others miss. They know they’ll be getting deep inside some very troubled minds – but just how far will they go?

Trouble is his business and business is good.

Careerwise, it’s definitely “like father, like son” in the Doyle clan: both dad Malachy and son Jake once were cops, and now they’re a pair of private investigators. Their cases run the gamut from cheating spouses to runaway teens, bank robberies to fatal arson, manslaughter and homicide. A father-and-son team could spell conflict, but Jake’s actually lucky to be around his dad so much, since this levelheaded, working-class hero makes sure his brood – especially son Jake – doesn’t get out of hand. It’s an uphill battle, though, since Jake seems to attract trouble. It usually starts with that extra beer or whisky, leads to heavy flirting with the wrong woman and ends in a brawl with the woman’s husband/lover/pimp. Jake’s a rogue, no doubt about it, but a lovable one who can make any woman weak in the knees with his heartbreaking sad-puppy look.

Jake’s emotional life is like a ping-pong ball bouncing between his ex-wife Nikki, a volatile ER doctor who‘s as likely to plant a passionate kiss on Jake’s lips as to kick him in the balls, and Constable Leslie Bennett, ambitious, sharp, on the rise, and determined to keep Jake out of her business and her life – which she‘s not too successful at. Also part of the Doyle clan are quick-witted, fast-talking Rose, Malachy’s tough-as-nails girlfriend; Malachy’s granddaughter Tinny, an impetuous and barely controllable teen; and Des, a charming young misfit who fits right into the Doyle clan.

Set in the Canadian port city of St. John’s, Newfoundland, and its spectacularly rugged surroundings, “Republic of Doyle” is a drama series with a cool vibe. Communist East Germany in its final decade. Even for the privileged intellectuals living in the villas of Dresden’s noble suburbs, the cracks in the forbidding facade of the East-German police state can no longer be airbrushed away. It is in this atmosphere that Christian, the shy, quiet son of senior physician Richard Hoffmann and his wife Anne, has grown up. A little bit of friendship goes a long way

Little Raven loves spaghetti and his head is full of all kinds of mischief. Although he‘s sometimes a scaredy-cat, he‘d never admit it, and tends to bend the truth a bit to get his friends to join in his antics – which invariably lead to all kinds of predicaments. When he accidentally damages the dam at the edge of the forest one day and the reservoir threatens to flood the woods, Raven is afraid of getting into trouble – again – with Mrs. Badger, who takes care of him and all the other animals in the forest.

So the clever little Raven is determined to fix his mishap before Mrs. Badger notices anything. Together with his friends Woolly, the timid little sheep, and the big, strong bear Eddie, Raven makes his way to the beavers to ask for their help. In the small town of Cheselweck there are seven bus routes and one tram, a museum with a dinosaur, a castle ruin with a great view but no ghosts, and a biscuit factory. Fennel Vennel 19 is an apartment building on the outskirts of town where lots of children live.

Seven-year-old Willy lives on the ground floor with his parents. His mom is always secretly slipping him candy so the other kids will like him. But the other kids already do like him, so he gets to eat all the candy himself. Pipa is six years old and very shy; she always blushes when the other kids look at her. She lives on the first floor with her mom, right next door to the widow Pondicherry, who has a poodle, a tomcat, a budgie and even a tortoise. An old treasure map, new friends and an exciting adventure: just what Tiger and Bear were waiting for!

Tiger and Bear can hardly believe their luck when they catch an old treasure map on their hook while fishing one day. Then Kurt the dog shows up and wants to have a look too, which Tiger and Bear don’t like at all. In the ensuing scuffle, the card gets torn in two and one half is carried away by the wind.

While Tiger and Bear glumly consider their loss, Jochen Gummy Bear is jumping for joy. The little rabbit has finally found Gokatz, the greatest detective of all time. Jochen wants to hire the private eye to find him friends. Gokatz isn’t interested in the job, but when the wind blows half of the treasure map in his face, he has a splendid idea. He gives Jochen the crumpled piece of paper, claiming it is a valuable map that will help him find friends.

The little rabbit hops away and soon runs into Tiger and Bear. Now that they have both halves of the map, the adventure can begin! Gokatz, however, has meanwhile realized his mistake, and sets out with his own gang to find the treasure too.

And so begins a thrilling treasure hunt full of surprises: Rosa, the frightened rhinoceros, the farting ink swamp, a sneaky little robber and finally the ice ocean with the old pirate ship, where the treasure has been hidden. But the most important lesson they all learn is that friendship is more valuable than all the riches in the world.

The peasant boy Trenk has had enough of being treated unjustly by the evil knight Sir Wertolt. With his pet pig in tow, he sets off for the big city to seek his fortune. He soon makes friends with Momme Mumm, a travelling trickster and true survival artist, who manages to get them out of any sticky situation they get into. Then, by chance, Trenk gets an unbelievable offer to train to become a knight!

As a knight in training, he becomes a page at Castle Hohenlob, but he is not very good at his new role. Thekla, Sir Hohenlob’s daughter, discovers that Trenk is really a peasant, and threatens to disclose the truth unless he teaches her everything he learns in his knights’ training. Mistrustful at first, Trenk and Thekla gradually become an inseparable team.

Together they have thrilling adventures, like defending the castle from robbers, rescuing a valuable Bible from the clutches of Wertolt’s evil henchmen or vanquishing a fire-breathing beast, which turns out not to be a dragon at all. And every time things begin to look hopeless, they can count on Momme Mumm and his trickster friends to come to the rescue.

Little by little, Trenk begins to feel like a real knight. Nothing can stop him now! As long as nobody finds out about his humble background…
