STEAM Savvy is an all-girls after-school club for students atGettysburgHighSchool.Theprogramencouragesgirls toexplorescience, technology, engineering, arts andmath. Instructors andmentorsalsoassiststudentswithcollegeapplications,interviewingskills, andother aspects of the college search, including visits toexploreschools’sciencedepartments.

As more major tech companies realize the need for greaterdiversity in STEAM fields, these programs are important tools inhelping girls and youngwomen retain an interest in science andtechnologythroughouttheirschoolyears.Researchsuggeststhatprogramslikethisareeffectivetoolstochallengethegenderdivideofmen andwomen in these high-paying career fields.
