“Care Around Every Corner” is our new company slogan. I wanted you to hear that first. Heritage

Hills is one of 12 Nursing and Rehabilitation homes in Rhode Island managed by Health Concepts Ltd.

Most people are not aware of that and we are trying to work together to offer more activities and events,

share education and resources all in the attempt to be a better and stronger advocate for our patients and

residents.

Facebook Pages: “Heritage Hills Nursing Centre” (Is NOT us). Our Facebook Page is shared by our 12

homes under “Health Concepts Ltd”. We would love for you all to LIKE us on that Facebook Page. So, I

understand the problem, then becomes you cannot directly “upload and tag and check-in” to us because

it is not Heritage Hills. I can only suggest that if you want to share any pics of your visit here etc, you

could send it to Lina ([email protected]) and we can upload them on that site to share for you.

MY InnerView: is sending out the Satisfaction Surveys to Families in October. Nursing Homes are

mandated to participate in these surveys. However, we endorse this and utilize the information to make

improvements, prioritize needs and resources and also to share with the staff/departments for a job well

done. I urge you to complete those surveys. We truly respond to those and we want you to be aware that

we appreciate all of your kind comments throughout the year but this year we are looking for you to help

us put that down on paper so we can SHINE! Thanks again and as always if you are experiencing any

concerns that you ask for me or anyone of my Department Leaders so they can address it timely.

“If you are asked to go to court, the

answer should be Yes or No.

Period!”

-Jean D.

also known as the Day of

Atonement, is the holiest day

of the year in Judaism.. Its

central themes are atonement and repentance.

Jewish people traditionally observe this holy

day with an approximate 25-hour period

of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending

most of the day in synagogue services.

September 10th,

THE HISTORY OF

GRANDPARENTS DAY

National Grandparents Day falls each year on the first Sunday after Labor

Day. It's not a holiday invented to sell cards and flowers. It was initiated at

the grassroots level by West Virginian Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade,

with the behind-the-scenes support of her husband Joseph L. McQuade.

They had 15 children, 43 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one

great-great grandchild. After being married for over 60 years, Mr.

McQuade passed away in 2001. Mrs. McQuade passed away in 2008.

There are three purposes for National Grandparents Day:

1. To honor grandparents.

2. To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children's children.

3. To help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.

Mrs. McQuade started her campaign for a day to honor grandparents in 1970. She worked

with civic, business, church, and political leaders to first launch the day in her home state

in 1973. Then, after many years, much persuasion, and unending persistence, she finally

achieved her bigger goal. It was in 1979 that President Jimmy Carter proclaimed the first

Sunday after Labor Day each year as National Grandparents Day (September was chosen

to signify the "autumn" years of life).

RESIDENTS MEMORY OF

FROM A-Z

This month brings to mind the back

to school events and activities that

we look forward to do every year….

Liz A. remembers walking to school because she lived out in

the country. “No public transportation! That walk to and from

was a long distance on your feet!”

Gloria T. fondly remembers bunking school. “My parents

didn’t speak English very well so my brother had to bail me

out! “

As for Francis M., she happily remembers going to Tollman’s

High School where she learned how to swim during gym

class. “I became a pretty good swimmer!”

Anita L. reports that she was a trouble maker in school. “I’m

very independent and a little devil at times.”

For Rose D., Sept. 2, 1947 is a special date because it is her

wedding anniversary. She remembers the day was just beauti-

ful with 350 guests in attendance and the weather was gor-

geous. A honeymoon to upstate NY, then stayed in NH.

And finally, Leonora G. reminisces about all the children

walking home at lunch time and then walking back to school

for the afternoon. “My mom gave us bread with oil and sugar

for a sweet afternoon snack when we returned home for the

day.”

Form or Participate in Resident Groups:

You have a right to form or participate in a

resident group to discuss issues and concerns

about the nursing home’s policies and opera-

tions. Most homes have such groups, often

called “resident councils.” The home must

give you meeting space and must listen to and

act upon grievances and recommendations of

the group.
