Through the efforts of last year’s Board, the current Board, dedicated employees and you, our members, I’m proud to report that fiscal year 2012 has produced positive revenues 7.5% higher than last year. Cash flow is $175,000 better than budget. The Resident member head count is 64 members better than planned. We continue to pay down bank debt of $69,000 per month. Challenges still remain, but we are moving in the right direction.
Finance Chairman John Bugh has been hard at work with his Committee, along with staff, to develop recommendations to the Board for fiscal year 2013. We will have more details to share in the coming months as we develop short and long-term goals.
Soon, we will be asking members to complete a survey and give feedback on what amenities and services we can add and improve on. This member feedback will be instrumental to the Board and staff as we navigate through this year and years to follow. General Manager Wally Smith will share more details in his column on page 11. This is your chance to give the Board and staff constructive feedback on how we can continue to “raise the bar” at the MAC.

This month’s Cherry Diamond cover story focuses on Club connections.
More than a century before Facebook was created, the Missouri Athletic Club was founded as a social network; a place for business, professional and civic leaders to gather and develop relationships.
Through the years, families have become more involved in Club life. The most dramatic development was the addition of the West Clubhouse in 1995. The new facility allowed your Club to offer much more for the entire family to enjoy. When every member of the family is utilizing the Club, the value of a membership is maximized.
In addition to our Club’s history, staff and programs, the fact that we offer access to two unique facilities sets us apart from most other private clubs. More than 70% of our members live within five miles of the West Clubhouse. While the historic Downtown Clubhouse may be the crown jewel, West is the diamond in the rough.
As summer winds down, vacations are over and the kids head back to school, it is easy to settle back into a routine. Don’t return to the “same old, same old.” This month, I encourage you to break out of your routine. I have found that doing so will help you more fully enjoy Club life.
If you spend most of your time at West, try dining or attending an event Downtown. If you are a long-time member who is more accustomed to spending time Downtown, I encourage you to check out what West has to offer. I hear from many long-time members who continually discover something new to enjoy at our Club, whether it is a fitness class, an item on a restaurant
menu or an event.This month, there is a very good
reason to give dining at West a fresh look. Chef Rob Marbs will join the MAC team after serving as the executive chef for Glen Echo Country Club. His resume, reputation and personal attention will greatly enhance the dining experience at West. I encourage you to make fine dinning at West a part of your weekly/daily routine moving forward. You can read more about Chef Marbs on page 21. In the Jack Buck Grill, Downtown, they have recently unveiled a new menu that has received rave reviews. “Raising the bar” on our dining is just another added benefit of our great Club.
September brings with it a lot of exciting sports action and the MAC is in the middle of it all. The Jeff Fisher era begins for the Rams and your Club is the best pre-game destination. The Cardinals head into the home stretch and hopefully we will be treated to more postseason heroics in October. Dan Dierdorf, David Eckstein and Mike Jones are among the local sports heroes that will gather at the Club on Sept. 6 for the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame’s “Greatest Moments in St. Louis Sports” banquet. In October, Saint Louis University basketball coach Rick Majerus will headline the Billikens Luncheon. If you are a basketball fan like me, this event is one to circle on the calendar.
September traditionally kicks off the start of the MAC social season. Take a look at the calendar and make your plans. No matter your interests, there is sure to be an event to enjoy. Now is also a good time to start booking business meetings, banquets and even holiday parties before dates fill up.

Times have changed dramatically since the MAC opened in 1903. Life was simpler then. There was no Facebook, Twitter or Youtube. In order to communicate, people actually had to see each other. Personal relationships were personal. Young people played games that usually required them to go outside and see each other. You knew who your banker was and there was no such thing as a self-checkout machine at the grocery store. With the advances in technology, meeting people face-to-face has become as obsolete as a hand-written letter. Life is easier now, but does that make it better?

communication with Facebook, the MAC is where people gathered to socialize and catch up with old friends. The Downtown Clubhouse was added to the national historic places registry in 2007. The Club, with its century-old quarter-sawn oak paneling and the art that fills the Art Lounge, has a charm that is uniquely its own. If these walls could talk, they would tell a captivating and colorful story of St. Louis history. Both Clubhouses have their own distinctive appeal, but it’s the membership of this Club that brings it to life.
The partnership of facilities and camaraderie that can be found at the MAC make it such a treasure to the community. Al and Chad Dressing are new Platinum Partners to the Club. The father and son duo had been to the Sportsman’s Club for lunches with

business partners many times. On one such outing, they ran into an old friend, Mr. Andy Eberhardt, who is a 30-year member of the Club. They had asked Mr. Eberhardt if he was still a member because they too were interested in becoming members of the MAC. Mr. Eberhardt arranged a meeting with Membership Director Patti Cundiff, and the Dressings applied that very day.
Mr. Eberhardt and the Dressings have been friends for years. They used to
vacation together at Table Rock Lake annually. Al and Chad Dressing own a company downtown and the close proximity to their work allows them to use the Club to host business clients and vendors, or meet Mr. Eberhardt, who also works downtown, for lunch at the Sportman’s Club.
When the Cherry Diamond met with the Dressings and Mr. Eberhardt, they were enjoying each other’s company and reminiscing over lunch in the Sportman’s Club. They were talking about how they shared a fondness of racquetball and joked about who would win in a competition. Since joining the Club, Chad Dressing has been taking his son Nathan to the West Clubhouse to teach him the sport, as his father did when he was young. His wife Maureen and daughter Hanna also like
to go to West and spend time at the pool. They plan on using the meeting rooms Downtown to conduct business meetings. Mr. Eberhardt is very active in the Club and its clubs within the Club. He plays racquetball twice a week, is an Apollo, Stogie Club and Forever Young Club member. He also enjoys meeting his buddies in the Jack Buck Grill on Monday nights.
The MAC has been an integral part of the Neill family for generations. Tom and Katie Neill grew up in the Club. Their father, past-President Mark Neill, is a longtime member. Katie has fond memories of her father taking her to the annual Father/Daughter dance and celebrating at the Mother’s Day brunch. Tom remembers having Breakfast with Santa as a kid. Tom and his wife Sara held their engagement party at the Club. It was the first time their parents met.
When the Associates hold a trivia night, the Neill family gets a table and challenges themselves and each other. Tom became a member of the Club in June by becoming a Platinum Partner with Katie. Since they are Platinum Partners, Katie’s dues have decreased and her brother enjoys reduced dues. Tom, Sara and their two children Victoria and Declan, have taken up

tennis at West. Katie meets them at the pool on Saturdays.
“It’s nice that Tom joined the Club. He brings the kids to the pool. It’s fun to have other people in the family around,” Katie said.
When Katie isn’t working as a sponsorship coordinator for Live Nation or enhancing fan interaction with Fredbird and the Cardinals team, she makes time to workout on the 5th Floor Downtown.
The MAC plays an integral part in the lives of the Neill family and so many others. Fellow members and staff recognize that these memories will be cherished for years to come and feel privileged to be a part of that.
When new members join the Club, it adds strength and diversity. The more members, the more people there are to meet and build friendships with. Whether they’re Emeritus Life members, Legacy members, Platinum Partners, family members or new members, the Club gets better with each and every story. When it’s Our Club, it’s Your Club, only better. Less dues, more

time with family and friends. That’s a real Platinum Partnership. After all, the MAC is the original social network. parties. Soon department stores will be decked out ceiling to floor with red and green tinsel, pine trees and snowflakes. Don’t wait until the
last minute to get into the holiday spirit. Reserve a room now to host
your office or group holiday party at the MAC. There are many options that can fit the
needs of any group you may be a part of. From small gatherings to large office parties, the MAC has
space for it all. Banquet space is going fast, so book your holiday party early.
Rooms are available to seat groups as small as ten to as large as 400. Enjoy an exquisite evening in the Missouri Ballroom, or a more intimate time
in one of the Club’s smaller rooms. No matter your group size, the MAC will be sure to make each
gathering unique. With freshly baked homemade desserts, breads and pastries, your guests’ taste buds will be sweetly satisfied.
Another great option for a holiday gathering is to treat your office or group to lunch in the Sportsman’s Club or
dinner in the Rendezvous Room or Jack Buck Grill. There are smaller private alcoves available to seat your
group for lunch or dinner. Like any MAC venue, the quality of service and food you receive will be nothing short of the best.

Dear Members,As I begin to get my arms around the MAC operations, a number of things seem very obvious. Observation one, we have our “Three Buckets” that we need to continually fill. Those Buckets being:
Membership, Rooms and Banquets. As a quick refresher on Bucket one, The MAC is a networking mecca for both our young and not so
young members. The Business Development group reinvented itself, both Downtown and at West, and geared towards making contacts and networking. It’s a very strong platform and anybody in business, wanting to do business, should check it out. The MAC is also the place for family fun, workouts, healthy living, making memories and friends. There are so many reasons to be a member of The MAC, we all just need to spread the good word.
Also of note, one very obvious impediment uncovered while studying this Bucket was the dues structure of our Associate member-ship category. The good news for our Associates is that problem has been fixed by way of the Platinum Partnership program. In fact, just about anyone can partner with anyone now, making the Club an even better value. If you need more information, please let us know.
In reference to Bucket two and our Rooms, several floors were updated just prior to me arriving at The MAC. I have virtually lived on the 7th Floor for over six months now. It is really a nice place to be, and guest after guest comments on our staff, facili-ties and how much they enjoy staying with us. If your company brings folks in from out of town, or you know anyone who visits St. Louis on a regular basis, encourage them to stay with us.
And finally, Bucket number three which is our banquet areas. Both Downtown and West have great meeting spaces staffed with happy faces. Business meetings, wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, retreats, seminars, etc… are some of the most profitable business we have. We provide a very nice value on these events, and this type of business allows us to plan on specific numbers of guests, set menus and staff; unlike restaurants, where you have to be ready for anything.
We all know this is not rocket science, but, it is somewhat amazing and kind of fun to see how many people are now talking about the Buckets. Better yet, one of our new members booked 14 rooms with us for a three-day company retreat, allowing us to host several banquets; then, a business associ-ate of theirs decided to join the Club. This was just last week, and I got a wink and the com-ment, “We filled all three buckets for you this week, Wally.” Well, the truth is, they are not my Buckets – they are your Buckets, and our oppor-tunity going forward. As I noted last month, fill-ing our Buckets provides the resources we need to address a few areas that are viewed as slightly less than “Obvious Platinum Status.” The trick is, which areas do you attack first, second and so on? This is where your help and input is needed. We plan to conduct a Club wide survey to gather your input and establish the one, twos and threes. It’s very important that we establish a base, regarding satisfaction, and your view of our future direction; so, please take the 10 minutes needed to give us your feedback and complete the survey. Private Club Associates, a third party group specializing in Club surveys, will begin the process at the end of August, with results presented to the Board of Governors in October. I dislike surveys as much as the next guy, but when we do this one right, the data and your input will help set The MAC’s next chapter in motion.

Step into September and a healthier you by the end of the
month. The MAC is encouraging all members to use the stepper machines as part of their workout routine throughout September.
To promote this great exercise, the MAC Athletic department will be holding a friendly competition, STEPtember. After finishing your step workout on one of the step machines, turn in your name, club number, date and miles stepped that day to the Downtown Athletic Desk or West Fitness Desk. At the end of the month, the person who has stepped the most miles on one of the step machines will be declared the winner.

Most people are aware of the physical benefits of training. While personal training is a science, there’s also an art to it. There’s a mind/body
connection when it comes to training. It no longer becomes work; the goal is to make exercise and fitness to become a part of your daily routine. Accountability is one of many benefits of using a trainer. After a while, training becomes as much of a routine task as grocery shopping or doing laundry. If a client misses a training session, they may feel as if they are missing out on not only the workout, but also their time with their trainers.
Through these sessions, trainers and clients get to know each other. Trainers will change the routine to fit the needs of the needs their clients. If they’re having a bad day, the trainer might focus on light cardio and flexibility. “What some people may not realize is that there’s more to personal training than weights,” MAC Personal Trainer Andrew Francis said. “I’m just like a hairdresser, barber or close friend: I am there to talk and listen. Ultimately, to make you look good.”

the summer. The Downtown Clubhouse hosted a summer league that concluded in August. The winning team of the league was captained by Brian Rodgers. They finished with a record of 7-3. They beat the team captained by Gary Sextro 50-43 in the championship game. Brandon Donat led the entire league in scoring averaging 19 points per game.
The MAC basketballers will return to the hardwood the week of Sept. 10. Make plans now to play in one of the Club’s three fun-filled leagues.
The Open League will play on Monday and Tuesday evenings Downtown. The Over 40 League will play Downtown on Wednesday nights. On Thursdays, the action shifts to the West for another Open League.

Veterans Day Commemoration
Salute our nation’s Veterans at an MAC celebration for
those who have served our country. On Thursday, Nov. 18, the MAC will host the 2012 Veterans Day Commemoration at the Downtown Clubhouse. Guest speakers, a delicious lunch and musical entertainment will be just a few of the highlights of the special day. Come out to support those who have served our Country.
The MAC Veterans Day Commemoration begins at 11:15 a.m. with military exhibits and a cash bar in the Eads Room. Lunch will follow in the Missouri Room at noon, followed by the program at 12:30 p.m. The price to attend is $27.50, which includes lunch, the program, parking and gratuity. Military uniforms or service dress for servicemen are appropriate and a jacket and tie for civilians. American Legion Honors Organizers of January Welcome Home Heroes Parade
On Friday, Aug. 3, members of
the 11th/12th District of the American Legion, Department of Missouri, gathered in the Veterans Room to honor those who were directly responsible for the overwhelming success of the Welcome Home Heroes Parade. Craig Schneider, Tom and LaDonna Appelbaum, Meredith Knopp and Justin Jones were instrumental in staging the parade, which took place this past January, and was the first of its kind since World War II. Their efforts garnered the attention of cities and communities around the nation.
“These individuals were able to pull off a parade larger than many of us have seen for years,” 11th/12th District Commander Walter Sawicki Jr., said. “The outpouring of support from the public and private sector was unbelievable,” added Shirley Janes, a member of the committee honoring the individuals.

Warrant Officer 4 George Green, a highly-decorated World War II veteran and 2011 MAC Veteran of the Year, accompanied Navy Ensign Alex Corrigan for his U.S. Naval Academy Graduation in Annapolis, Md., on May 29. Green gave Ensign Corrigan his first salute as a Navy Officer. The two were also featured in the September 2008 Cherry Diamond when Ensign Corrigan was leaving for the Naval Academy.

The MAC Swim and Dive team celebrated a successful and
fun season at their end of the season banquet. Both teams had new head coaches this season, who led both teams to successful 3-1 records and second place in conference! Dive Coach Lauren Brunner and Swim Coach Lauren Fonseca want to commend every swimmer for their hard work, enthusiasm and dedication throughout the season.
Each year, the Swim team awards one boy and one girl swimmer the MAC Spirit award for outstanding enthusiasm. This year’s winners were Liam Weishaar and Jenna Galakatos. Grace Stiegemeyer received the John J. Brouk award, which is given to the swimmer of the year and is regarded as the team’s top honor. The award recognizes excellence, longevity and willingness to help others in the sport of swimming. Brouk was a long-time member who was very supportive of the sport. The Penguin Award is given to Under-6 swimmers who can legally swim all four strokes. Genevieve Harrison, Colin Foppe and John Galakatos each received the Penguin Award. Diver David Burke won all of the dual meets he participated in, and was conference champion. Way to go divers!
The MAC Swim and Dive team would like to thank the parent reps for their commitment and dedication this season. Also, a big thanks to all the parents who helped out at meets. The Penguins are looking forward to another successful season next summer!

The Bricks are Coming!
Members and guests using the Downtown Lobby will soon enjoy
a new vista: A display of handsome commemorative bricks honoring major contributors to the MAC Preservation Foundation. The MAC Preservation Foundation was formed to raise funds for necessary infrastructure improvements of the historic Downtown Clubhouse.
Commemorative bricks will be on permanent display in the Art Gallery area and readily visible to all lobby visitors. Brick sizes range from 16” x 16” – 12” x 12” – 8” x 8” and 4” x 8”, representing contributions from $2,500 to $25,000. Donors may designate those whom they choose to honor with personalized text. Contributions are tax deductible. Forms are available at the Downtown Front Desk or can be requested electronically by emailing Pam Roth at [email protected].

Busch Beer is Back!
A century and a half after Adolphus Busch opened a small south St.
Louis brewery that would become the world’s largest, his great-grandson has decided to follow in the legendary brewer’s footsteps by launching a new brewing company. On Aug. 9, William K. ‘Billy’ Busch came to the MAC and explained how the William K. Busch brewing company came to be. Kräftig brewmaster Marc Gottfried explained how Kräftig and Kräftig Light lagers are produced, using only hops, malt, yeast and water. Attendees enjoyed the presentation and the samples. They were also pleased to hear that Busch plans on opening a Kräftig brewery in St. Louis.

The Dance Club is offering two sessions of Ballroom Dance Lessons this fall at the Downtown Clubhouse. The first session will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 18 and continue each Tuesday through Oct. 9. The second session will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16 through Nov. 6.
Whether you or your spouse are looking for a new interest to share or need to learn a few moves for your first dance or you just enjoy hitting the dance floor, lessons at the MAC are fun and enjoyable for everyone.
It does not matter if you have two left feet or are a dance pro, lessons can fit anyone’s skill level. Professional dance instructor Lucy Fitzgerald personalizes the experience for each couple. The dances are broken down into short step sequences making it easier to learn the dance as a whole. Dance lessons are a great way to meet new friends at the Club and spend quality time with your dance partner.

On July 15, 11 children of MAC members and friends
successfully completed the Toastmasters International Youth Leadership Program. Sponsored and conducted by MAC Toastmasters International, the Youth Leadership program helps young people build their communication and leadership skills so they may become tomorrow’s leaders in business, industry and the community.
The six week program, which met on Sundays at the West Clubhouse, was a series of meetings designed to give participants the opportunity to learn how to prepare for and present a speech, conduct meetings, listen effectively, and provide constructive feedback to their peers. The result is improved self-confidence and interpersonal communication skills that can be incorporated throughout their lives.
Sam Hanses, a 12-year-old student at Mary Queen of Peace, stated that he was able to obtain his Boy Scout communication and public speaking badges through the program, which is one of the requirements in order to become an Eagle Scout. Sam further noted, “The Youth Leadership program has given me confidence to become more comfortable when speaking in front of others. By completing this program, I am better at preparing and giving reports at school.” Sam is the grandson of MAC Governor Judith Hanses.
The Youth Leadership program utilizes the “learn by doing” approach. The program’s workshop-style design provided an emphasis on specialized speaking and leadership skills by enabling participants to develop and enhance their existing communication skills through practical experience. The benefits to this approach are that participants learned to:• Overcome nervousness when speaking before an audience. • Organize and present ideas logically and convincingly. • Listen carefully to others’ ideas. • Offer advice to help others improve
their speaking and leadership skills. • Participate in - and even lead the Youth Leadership meetings.
They also make new friends and have fun. Victoria Sansone, another 12-year-old student at Parkway West Middle School, states, “The Youth Leadership program taught me how to effectively speak in front of my peers, as well as have fun doing so.”
Charles Sansone, a 15-year-old student at John Burroughs School, said, “Having the participants take leadership roles in the program, and allowing them to vote on things such as Best Speaker, Best Evaluator and Best Table Topics, gave everyone a sense of independence and made the program well catered to teens and pre-teens.” Victoria and Charles are the children of MAC members Tim and Sherrie Sansone.
MAC Toastmasters sponsored the Youth Leadership program and provided the materials for each participant free of charge. Generally, meetings follow a format similar to that of a MAC Toastmasters Club meeting. There is an announced agenda and participants learn and practice parliamentary procedure during each meeting. Lecturing is minimal, but discussion is held during each session. Participants, working from a handbook, select officers who preside over the meetings. The remaining class members are assigned other duties on a rotating basis, so everyone is actively involved. Participants also deliver short impromptu and prepared speeches.
In every meeting, participants learn to apply the principles of listening, thinking and speaking. MAC Toastmaster Nancy Suelflow coordinated the program, assisted by fellow MAC Toastmasters Governor Judith Hanses, Liz Kroll, Tom Applewhite, Tim Sansone and Phil Hayes.
Aimee Hagnauer, a 15-year-old student at Villa Duchesne, said, “I really enjoy the Youth Toastmasters Program and I know it’s going to help me at school. I am learning about public speaking, which will help me make better presentations in class. I am also learning to listen better and to organize my thoughts.” Aimee is the daughter of Past Governor Robert and Kathy Hagnauer.
Another session will be offered by MAC Toastmasters free of charge in early fall. More information will follow in the MAC Buffet and an upcoming issue of the Cherry Diamond magazine.

The annual Tennis Exhibition is sponsored by the MAC Charitable Society for Children to raise money for the 2012 charities: Our Little Haven, Walker Scottish Rite Clinic for Childhood Language Disorders and SouthSide Early Childhood Center. Representatives from the three charities, as well as members of the CSC will be on hand to share information about the charities.
The first match will be a battle between tennis pros Lance Vodicka and Dave Fuhrig. Lance Vodicka is a 2012 ATP Touring Professional, with current US Men’s Open Pro ranking of #155. He achieved career-high ATP professional rankings of #728 in singles and #649 in doubles. Vodicka finished his junior career a United States National Under-18 ranking of #26. He began teaching tennis at the age of 16 and became a certified USPTA teaching pro in 2005. He was awarded the 2009 USTA St. Louis
District Outstanding Contributor to Youth High Performance as well as the 2008 and 2011 USPTA Missouri Valley Player of the Year Award.
Dave Fuhrig played #1 singles at Quincy University for four years. He holds the all-time Quincy record for matches won. He is the defending 2011 and 2012 Bud Simpson Doubles Champion. Fuhrig holds a 5.0 rating by the USTA and has seven years of teaching experience.
Following their match, MAC tennis pros Scott Stutz, Mac McDonald, Max Shapiro and Patrick McNally will play a doubles match.

The Charitable Society for Children is taking
nominations for the 2013 charities that will be supported by the MAC. Three charities will be selected and each will receive any money raised throughout the year by the MAC CSC. The deadline for nominations is Saturday, Oct. 27. For a charity to be considered it must be: a local charity, non-denominational, family-oriented, with an emphasis on service to children and for human welfare.
Nominees are also required to submit copies of the organization’s IRS letter of determination as a 501(c)3, and the organization’s most recent form 990, which has been submitted to the IRS. The MAC will also access the Guidestar website to verify that the organization’s status as a charity is still valid. Without this documentation, the charity can not
be considered for nomination. Nominations can be emailed to CSC Chairman Sam Hopmeier at [email protected]. Along with the charity name, please
provide a one-page fact sheet with information about the charity. Also, please make sure the charity is listed with St. Louis Better Business Bureau in their Charity Review section.
On Thursday, Nov. 8, the charities will be presented to the selection committee at a meeting at the West Clubhouse at 7:30 a.m. The nominating member or employee must be present at the meeting for a five-minute presentation on the charity. The final recommendations of charities selected will be given to the Board of Governors for approval. If you have a charity that you work closely with, nominate it today and help the MAC give back to the community.

1904MAC member John Furla was the only Missourian to run the marathon in the 1904 Olympics. His legacy is remembered through the John Furla Memorial Cup, which was awarded to the first place winners of the St. Louis Marathon. The cup has been retired and is displayed in a rotation of trophies in the Sportman’s Club. Furla was inducted into the MAC Hall of Fame in 1993. 1947Mickey Rooney, the perpetual teenage movie star, was a luncheon guest of R.C. Muckerman on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Rooney was appearing at a horse show that week. An interesting conversationalist, he entertained the guests with his many witticisms. He also visited the Club on other occasions while in the city.1952Two exquisite Meissen vases made in the studio of Augustus III, elector of Saxony and king of Poland in the 18th century, were presented to the MAC by Mr. and Mrs. Will Docter. The vases are in the delicate “Schneeballmuster” or “snowball” pattern made famous by the great porcelain artist, Johann Joachim Kuendler. The vases remain on display in the Art Lounge to this day.
1962Longtime MAC member Stan Musial was the cover story in the 1962 Cherry Diamond Roster. The article, written by longtime St. Louis Post-Dispatch sports writer Neal Russo, detailed how “Records alone did not make The Man: There are deeper reasons why Stan Musial has become a legend in his lifetime.” The iconic Cardinal would retire the next season, finishing 22
record-breaking seasons in the major leagues. Musial is widely considered to be one of the greatest hitters in baseball history; he is also considered
to be the most consistent hitter of his era. Musial was a first-ballot inductee to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969 and is currently the longest tenured living Hall of Famer.1978Vogue Editor Liz Groves clarified the season’s new ideas and Cathy Olsen delivered informative commentary as
models walked the runway at the MAC 75th Anniversary Fashion show on Sept. 9, 1978. A symphony of color graced the stage as glamorous designs of silk and glitter were exhibited. More than 450 MAC ladies and guests found it refreshing to preview the new looks for fall and winter. Former fashion coordinator Terry Conway, doyenne of high fashion at the MAC showings, was given a special tribute before the show.

Artist of the Month
Marilynne Bradley is this month’s featured artist in the MAC Art
Gallery at the Downtown Clubhouse. Her curiosity of the world is reflected in her paintings. Architectural structures compete with crowds of outdoor activity. The interplay of figures with the scene makes the composition come to life in a burst of excitement and drama. The many moods are created by the relationship between glowing light and dark patterns. Her skills as a draftsman enable her to use architectural design elements into her paintings.
Marilynne received her BFA degree from Washington University, an MAT from Webster University and her MFA from Syracuse University. Marilynne Bradley is a professor at Webster University in the MAT program, teaching drawing, painting and watercolor. Her watercolors are recognized in museum exhibitions, major national juried competitions, and are included in many major corporate collections around the world.
In her work, Bradley seeks to preserve the architecture of buildings while exploring the energy and charm of the cities in which they’re set, frequently focusing on her hometown of St. Louis. She has written and illustrated several books, the latest being “St. Louis in Watercolor.”
