Ms. Kurth began her Northside journey in 1987 as a freshman at Lafayette High School. She attended LHS from 87-91. While at LHS she was involved in Shamrock Singers, PALS, and Irish Green PEPpers (now known as the Loud Crowd). Her junior year she was cast as Dorothy, in the all school musical The Wiz, and the following year landed a lead role as a disciple in Godspell. Precious was a staff member of the school newspaper and the yearbook. She was the STUCO President her senior year. Her involvement at LHS was never ending. She was and still is invested in LHS and the Northside. She can remember singing a solo, “ Goodbye to Yesterday” by Boys II Men on graduation – May 26, 1991 (which is her birthday) and cried because the reality that high school was over and her time at LHS had come to an end. She wanted to stay in high school – at LHS forever.
It was through the guidance, mentorship and relationship with LHS retirees, Terri Johnson and Barbara Beeson that Precious knew she wanted to pursue a career in education. Nearly 15 years after graduation Precious would have the privilege to teach at her alma mater as an English teacher. Her investment and loyalty to the Northside continued and it GREW STRONGER when she transitioned to RMS as the assistant principal six years ago.
Her son attends LHS and Precious knew since his birth he would be an Irishmen. Their family bleeds green and their loyalty lies with the Northside.
Precious quotes Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz saying, “ I’ve learned never to go further than my own backyard to look for my heart’s desire. There is no place like home.” Ms. Kurth says there is no place like the Northside. There is a strong sense of pride and passion in the Northside and I advocate this infectiousness. There is no place like the Northside; this is my home, my backyard.” Ms. Kurth says it is an honor and a privilege to work for and serve this community.
