Paul points out some great principles for living life God’s way. First, we need humbleness of heart. Humble people are very conscious of their own shortcomings and choose not to focus on other’s shortcomings. Humbleness is a posture of dependence upon God with an honest evaluation of one’s own strengths and weaknesses. Second, we are to see the future with hopeful anticipation of what God will do. I am both amazed and extremely grateful for God’s work in my life and among us. I am looking forward with excitement because God is here. He is at work, He is changing lives, and He does have great plans for us, His children.

The Lord longs to hear from His children. We see this again and again as we carefully study God’s Word. For example, consider the invitation of Psalm 50:15 (NIV): “...Call upon Me in the day

of trouble; I will deliver

you, and you will honor Me.”

Yes, the Lord desires to hear from His children at all times . . . not just in times of distress. It is as we meet with Him in a time of quietness that our spiritual lives are

Third, we are to live life with a view towards eternity and a commitment to obedience. Seeing life through the lens of eternity enables us to weather the storms and stay on course. Our personal devotion to Jesus Christ as the One in charge Whom we follow opens us to God’s presence and power in our lives. Paul says that spiritual maturity possesses these perspectives. My prayer is that, by God’s grace, each of us will mature in our walk with God, demonstrating these qualities each day. Serving Christ together,

meet just to pray.

At the end of World War II, the Christians in South Korea realized that they were in deep need. Their church buildings had been destroyed and many of their brothers and sisters in Christ had

been put to death. Their country was in shambles . . . politically, structurally and spiritually. They knew if things were going to change for the better, it would have to come through the Lord. No political leader could

do this, no decree from the government could give or restore

This ministry sends shoeboxes filled with gifts to needy children around the world. You can help by filling a shoebox with small new toys, hard candy, hygiene items (toothpaste/brush, low-scent soap in separate zip-lock bag), school supplies, etc.) You may pick up an empty, wrapped shoebox in the patio or you may wrap it yourself. You can also pick up a brochure giving details about what to put in your box and what not to put in. Samaritan’s Purse is asking for $7 per box to cover shipping costs.

I would like to THANK all the church family for your calls, cards and prayers. I especially appreciate the Sonseekers. The food was great! Churches are not perfect. This is not news. In recent days, I have

happened across unchurched folk who can detail the ways in which church is

not perfect. Now their perspective may skew their interpretation, but the

criticisms ought to be heard.

This got me thinking about a blog post I read back in December 2009.

Written by blogger, pastor, and artist, David Hayward, “10 Challenges of

Religious Communities” voiced many of the criticisms I’ve heard lately.

Rather than wallow in self-critique, what would it look like to turn the

criticisms into intentions? Here is my suggested list for TFB:

1. Because abuse, intrigue, exploitation and alienation are not rare in the

church, we clearly and openly practice loving discipline.

2. We believe and trust what is true and have no fear in our search for it.

3. Questions are not only welcomed, they are encouraged.

4. Friendship is based on love for persons, regardless of compatibility.

5. We do not practice codependency, but exhort one another in love and

truth.

6. Success is gauged in terms of a life well-lived in partnership with God

by the power of the Spirit.

7. Creativity, in all its forms, is welcomed and critically engaged.

8. Diversity in unity is a primary goal, in accordance with God’s original

purpose and in keeping with his holiness.

9. The fullness of humanity, male and female, is represented in

leadership and mutual service in the community.

10. We hold that the text means what the original authors (one human, one

Divine) intended, but this does not trap its significance in literalist

cement.

We will leave the church at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17, and drive to Palm Springs. The first day, we will go to the Palm Springs Air Museum which houses one of the nation's largest collection of World War II flying aircraft displayed in modern, well lighted, air-conditioned and clean hangars. We will also visit the Desert Art Museum. Spacious art wings provide provocative, special art exhibitions. Visitors can view prestigious traveling exhibitions and enjoy different presentations from the Museum's broad permanent collection. They can browse through galleries featuring 19th-century landscapes and classic western American art, then explore exhibitions of bold contemporary paintings and sculpture. A premier collection and a selection of miniature rooms intrigue visitors of all ages. Also planned is a visit to the Living Desert Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

We will stay at a hotel in downtown Palm Springs. The cost is $189.50 for one person in a room or $276 for two. Then On Thursday, November 18, we will once again enjoy the Palm Springs Follies. The Crystals, who are widely regarded as one of the defining "girl groups" of the 1960s, will be performing. We plan to be back at the church at 9 p.m. on Thursday night.

Isaiah 6:8-9 ~ “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,

‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’

And I said, ‘Here I am. Send me!’

He said, ‘Go and tell this people....’”

Recently in our Sunday morning teachings from Pastor Charlie, we have seen the apostles and the early church reach out to their communities to share the Word of God. Some were jailed and persecuted for their faith. In a recent newsletter from Bobby Gupta, he shares a testimony from one of the pastors who was attending their conference at HBI. The pastor states: “One day suddenly the police came to his house and

arrested Rajeev (name changed), our Punji pastor. He was

charged with attempted murder. Rajeev was devastated

because he had nothing to do with any murder. They

dragged him out of his house in front of his wife and their

baby. The wife was screaming and crying to the police to

release her husband because he did not do any murder and

he is a pastor. But the Police did not give ear to her but took

Rajeev in their vehicle while the people of the street were

watching him being taken.

Rajeev was in the Prison for 13 days for no mistake

of him. The first two days he cried to the Lord and fought

with the Lord for allowing this to happen to him because he

was accused unnecessarily and brought shame in front of

his people. The third day in the prison God spoke to him

and told him that there was a purpose for him to be in the

prison. Rajeev heard God very clearly and told the Lord

that he was willing to go through this suffering if it was

God’s will and purpose.

Bow, Rajeev saw the fellow prisoners differently through the eyes of Jesus. He saw the jailor through

the eyes of Jesus. Rajeev’s heart started to feel the lostness of these people in the prison. He remembered St.

Paul in the prison and his joyful living that made a huge difference. So he decided to sing and praise God in

the prison. Hearing Rajeev singing, the fellow prisoners asked him to sing those beautiful songs worshipping

the true and living God. Rajeev got opportunities to share the Gospel with the fellow prisoners. The Jailor,

who watched Rajeev every day, came to listen to his singing and sharing of the Word of God.

God brought Rajeev out of the prison after 13 days, proving Rajeev was not guilty of attempted

murder. The day Rajeev was released, the Jailor called and told him, ‘please do not forget us and please visit

us as often as you can because we want to know more about Jesus Christ.’ Bow Rajeev visits the prison and

the jailor every week very joyfully as God has opened the doors to proclaim God’s Good Bews to the Jailor

and the prisoners. Praise the Lord!”

In what neighborhood, business, or country has God placed us that we might serve Him with joy and singing? How do you see your neighbors or coworkers? Let us pray for our eyes to be opened, to say, “Here I am Lord,” and begin singing “those beautiful songs of worship.”

what was needed. It could only come from

the Lord. It could only come as God’s people humbled themselves before Him and prayed. [II Chronicles 7:14 highlights this kind of hungry, soul-searching prayer. Yes, the admonition was given to Israel, but the application is to us as well.] As the believers in S. Korea began to pray, seeking God’s face daily at 5 a.m., 7 days a week, things began to change . . . first in their own lives and then in their country. They prayed like this for 30 years even in the bitter cold of winter in churches which had no heat. Did this kind of praying revive God’s church and their country? Yes, it did! Their country was rebuilt, their government united, and God’s

church was revived.

Dear people, do we have this kind of urgency in our prayer lives? Do we realize just how much we need the Lord working in

our lives? James 5:16 tells us: “...the intense prayer of the

righteous is very powerful” (HCSB) Oh, that all of us would hunger for this kind of intense praying. Yes, the Lord does hear His children when we humble ourselves before Him. May this be our desire today. Needing Him more than ever, Pastor Rog

This first class is an Introductory Class (as is the first Wednesday of each following month) for newcomers to sign up or just see what it’s all about. The study this year is the book of Isaiah. There are also classes for 2-5 year olds, but please do not bring children to an Introduction Class.
