I used to coach my oldest son in soccer when he was
younger. As he got older, he would go to tryouts for select
and high school teams. I was no longer the coach, but I
always shared with him one piece of advice before any
tryout: Be sure to look the part. I told him that if he showed
up looking like a soccer player, there was an increased
chance of him being seen as a soccer player. If he showed up
looking like a kid that plays soccer in video games as
opposed to the real thing, he might not be taken seriously.
As he grew older, that same advice was then applied to
getting a job. It’s advice I have heeded myself all my life.
You can even say it is like another common phrase: “Fake it
till you make it.”
As disciples of Jesus Christ, we certainly do not want to fake
it, but we do need to look the part. The world looks at those
of us who proclaim to be Christians to see if there is
anything to this way of life. If they see us looking and acting
like people transformed by Jesus Christ, they will be more
likely to take Christianity seriously. If they look at us and see
nothing different, then they can easily conclude that there is
nothing different about Jesus Christ. He just becomes simply
another religious figure of history. Can the world see the
power of Christ in you? How well do you look the part ?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY
Thank you to everyone who helped with the St. Joan of
Arc Hurricane Laura Relief effort. Thank you to those
parishioners who gave their time supervising the
delivery of donations and sorting the donations. Thank

donated items as well as our crew who made the trip to
St. Margaret in Lake Charles to deliver the donations.
And thank you to our very generous community who
donated about $10,000 as well as gift cards and other
items to St. Margaret Church and their parishioners.

MASS PRAYERS
OUR FAMILY PRAYER

Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our
archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our
Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic
and illness. We come to you father, with Mary our Mother,
and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence,
murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom
that we may build a community founded on the values of
Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people.
Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless
and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our
time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones
through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the
perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our
community. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us.
Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we may be a holy
family.
VOCATIONS PRAYER
Gracious and loving God, help the men and women of
our archdiocese to hear your call to serve. Our needs
are great and our people thirst for your presence. Open
the hearts of many and raise up faithful servants of the
Gospel, dedicated holy priests, deacons, sisters, and
brothers, who will give of themselves for your people
and their needs. Bless those who are serving now, and
our parishioner in formation,
Brother Joseph Ory
with courage and perseverance. Grant that many will
be inspired by their example and faith.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of
heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son
of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God,
Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not
made, consubstantial with the Father;
Through him all things were made. For us men and for
our salvation he came down from heaven, (bow)
And by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary
and became man. For our sake he was crucified under
Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose
again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of
the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe
in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds
from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the
Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the
prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic
Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the
life of the world to come. Amen.

ARCHBISHOP’S LETTER
September 20, 2020
To: Clergy, Religious and Laity of the
Archdiocese of New Orleans
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ::
Today, throughout the Catholic Church, we celebrate
Catechetical Sunday with the theme of "I received from the
Lord what I also handed on to you."
This is a special observance in each parish as we pray for and
ask God's blessings upon all those who share in the important
work of catechesis and Christian formation. Those who
share in this ministry are our catechists in the Parish School of
Religion, the administrators and teachers in our Catholic
Schools, youth ministers, and those who are involved in the
ministry of RCIA. Please join me in thanking them for not only
giving of themselves in a generous way to provide religious
education and formation for our youth and adults, but also
pray that God will continue to bless them and inspire them in
their ministry. They give of themselves in a generous way to
help others open their hearts to Christ. Furthermore, their
example of faith is one that can be a source of inspiration to us.
Join me in praying for students, parents, and families on this
Catechetical Sunday. We are reminded that parents are the
primary teachers of their children in faith and we pray for
them that they will joyfully fulfill this vocation. I invite parents
involved to continue this involvement in the education and
Christian formation of their children. Parents, they need
you, your support, and they need your example of living out
your faith. You are a powerful witness to your child.
Please know of my deep appreciation and prayer of
thanksgiving to all of you who share in this important ministry
of catechesis and Christian formation.
Wishing you God's blessings, and with the assurance of my
prayers, I am
Gratefully in Christ,
Most Reverend Gregory M. Aymond
Archbishop of New Orleans
