Dean Jeffrey Akman will host this event for faculty, reuniting medical alumni and their guests. Look for your favorite professor while you were a student or have a chat with a new professor.

All Alumni Kick-off Party and ConcertAn Evening with Daryl Hall & John Oates

Daryl Hall and John Oates, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees and the number-one selling duo in music history, will kick-off Alumni Weekend with an all-alumni concert at the Charles E. Smith Center. From the mid-’70s to the mid-’80s, the duo had 11 top-10 singles, including “Rich Girl,” “Private Eyes,” “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do),” “Maneater,” and “You Make My Dreams.”

8 – 10 am Heel to Heal 5K Run/Walk to support the Healing ClinicThe GW Healing Clinic will host its Third Annual Heel-to-Heal 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, September 20 at 9 a.m. on the C&O Canal Tow Path in Georgetown. The GW Healing Clinic is an entirely student run effort that affords students the opportunity to more fully engage in our community. Last year, the 5K raised about $25,000 for the clinic. Fundraising is now more important than ever as it will help sustain our clinic at Bread for the City and support our efforts of opening a new site this fall. Clinical Learning and Simulated Skills: “Day in the Life of a Patient”

It is 8am and you are making your rounds on the floor when you visit with a patient who is complaining of being in pain. The pain suddenly becomes worse and you notice his vitals have changed significantly. How do you respond to these changes and what would you do next? Take a tour of our newly renovated CLASS Center and find out if you have what it takes treat our “patients.”

Gross Anatomy Lab Sessions

Gross Anatomy, the structural organization of the human body, is one of the basic building blocks of clinical medicine. Relive the experience of studying anatomy by exploring prosected human cadavers, dried bones, and fixed tissues such as brains, lungs, and kidneys. (No photography permitted)

Ross Hall 101Third Annual Frank N. Miller Lecture “Physicians’ Role(s) in Health Policy: Our White Coat is Needed STAT”

Presented by Lawrence Deyton, M.D. ‘85

Dr. Deyton will share his view of the increasingly important role that clinicians must treat our patients and lay hands on the rapidly changing health care enterprise in the US. He will discuss our role in Congress, various Federal agencies, professional and advocacy organizations, national and state accrediting bodies and our own clinical organizations. In honor of Dr. Miller, Dr. Deyton will also share some ideas about the role of academic medical centers and the education of the next generation of clinicians to take on these responsibilities. Marvin Center (TBD)Planning Your LegacyEstate planning seminar open to all attendees. The specific focus will be on thoughtfully planning what to leave to your heirs and charity that will reflect the values you wish to pass on to future generations. Topics will include how much is too much to leave to your children, what options are available for leaving a legacy and how to include charity in your estate plans.

Following the reception each reuniting class will adjourn to private banquet rooms to celebrate their respective class reunion. Please come prepared to swap stories (from the past and the present) and find out what your classmates have been doing. Class pictures will be taken during this time.

Bus Tour: Changes on the GW Foggy Bottom Campus and around the DistrictThis is your last chance to jump on board one of our courteous shuttles for a guided tour to see what is new in around the Foggy Bottom campus. See the old H Street building site and visit some of newer additions to the GW Foggy Bottom campus – the School of Business and the Elliott School building. Also on the tour - the World War II Memorial and the National Museum of the American Indian. Feel free to get off the bus at any site to further explore the area and enjoy a leisurely walk back to your hotel.

Ross Hall Renovations

Massive renovations to Ross Hall began June 2012 to construct a new Research Center for Neglected Diseases of Poverty and to upgrade overall building systems. Construction included state of the art laboratory spaces on the 5th and 6th floors of Ross Hall, creating collaborative learning spaces for students and faculty. Renovations are slated to be completed by mid 2015.

Please bring a photo ID and have it with you at all times. The SMHS Alumni Office will work to provide easy entry for you into Ross Hall, which requires you to have photo IDs available to show security personnel.

Dietary Restrictions

If you have dietary restrictions in terms of the Saturday night class dinner parties, please pre-register and clearly indicate your dietary restrictions on your registration form.

Child care is available during Alumni Weekend 2014 through well-known Washington, D.C. agencies. Parking

Due to ongoing campus construction, parking is severely limited on campus and we do not recommend trying to park on campus. The Marvin Center Garage at 800 21st St. NW will be available on September 19, 20, and 21 for $21/day with no in and out privileges. There are privately managed garages available at 900 22nd Street and 2100 Pennsylvania Ave.
