Dear Parents,
As your student grows, the rigors of school increase. Please know that the jump between the primary grades (K-2) and intermediate grades (3-5) is a very large one. While some homework was assigned in earlier grades, 3-5 students will be required to complete homework on a regular basis to practice skills learned in class, encourage responsibility, and begin to prepare them for the expectations they will encounter in middle school. Frequency of 3rd grade homework assignments is explained in the very last section of the newsletter.
We have had a lot of students not completing homework routinely and ask for your assistance.
Please help your child be successful by going over their homework together and signing planners daily.
Word Work
We will have a 3 week rotation for Word Work- a slight change from the previous newsletter.
We will have a week of:
• spelling
• cursive and structural analysis
• grammar

What we are working on-
Homework will be written down in planner during class, each day. Students are expected to write down their work, complete homework assignments on time, have a family member review their work, and have their planner signed. Homework will be given as follows: Spelling (list sent home e/o Monday) should be studied daily for the Friday test, Math most days there will be review of the daily lesson (1-5 problems), and Reading will not be assigned daily, but is highly encouraged that you read with your child nightly for 30 minutes to support their continued growth. (Please record all reading in their reading log). *Additional work may be assigned on occasion, as needed.
ScholasticOrders:OrderingBooks 3rd Grade books will only be purchased through the Scholastic website. You may purchase at anytime and it will send an email to your child’s teacher. The books will still be shipped to school.
LITERACY I can use mind work while reading to make higher level predictions and complete comprehension checks.
MATH I can use patterns to solve multiplication facts: 0, 1, 2, 5, and 9. I can apply properties to solve multiplication facts: 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8.
WRITING I can write a personal narrative (true story) about one small moment in time.
