MALAWI NEWS It is my great pleasure to sincerely thank our brothers and sisters from St. Brendan for the great support ren-

dered to this parish. You have assisted us with electricity to the new Fathers’ house which on our effort along,

we could not afford. For this we thank you very much. Also, you supported us with the school feeding program

at St. Joseph Primary School which has contributed much in the retention of learners at school, high attend-

ance and high pass rate . This has benefited not only the Christians but also the Muslims. Last year we experi-

enced a dry spell which made almost all households to have no food but this year we had enough good rains so

that we have harvested much yields because you were with us in your daily prayers. We are not taking this for

granted. Also, thank you for the strong relationship which is between these two parishes of St. Brendan and St.

Joseph, Namalaka. We have learned a lot on what our sisters are doing in America through these delegates.

To show that the relationships is not only for elders, Malia, one of the youths from St. Brendan, is with us to

chat with her fellow youths of St. Joseph, Namalaka. May the almighty God bless St. Brendan and St. Joseph

Namalaka Parishes, Master Kamwando, Chair Person of Parish Council.

Alphabet Soup for

Students—I ISAIAH has been called

“the greatest of the proph-

ets.” He received the word

of God at a time when the

Northern Kingdom of Israel

was taken over by Assyria,

and the southern kingdom

of Judah was also threat-

ened.

ISAAC was called the Son

of the Promise because

Abraham believed that

God would make him the

father of many nations.

Stewardship and Service What is stewardship? In the Bible a steward was sort of like the but-ler or housekeeper of a large house. He or she kept track of every-thing that was going on.

En las casas grandes había una persona encargada de los negocios de la familia. Un ejemplo es Eliezer, el siervo de Abram. (Genesis 15: 2).

Eliakim was steward of the palace in Jerusalem. (Isaiah 22: 19-23). We may not be in charge of anyone’s palace, but we are responsible for the riches and the talents God has given us.

En nuestras vidas, dios nos ha dado la responsabilidad de compartir con la iglesia y con los pobres.

Exodus 1: 1 through 2: 10

Baby Moses The story of Baby Moses is a great favorite. We imagine little Moses in his waterproof basket boat floating down the Nile.

Pero la historia atrás de Las Aventuras del Bebé Moisés fué

triste. Los he-breos fueron esclavos en Egipto.

When you look at the giant pyr-amids of Egypt, you know that they were built by slaves.

El faraón de Egipto fue muy cru-el a los Hebreos. Trató de matar a los bebés. Por eso, la mamá y la hermana Miriam le escondió en un barquito.

How wonderful that the Prin-cess discovered him.

Matthew 17: 14-18. Jesus Heals

the Demon-Possessed Child This is not just a scary story but something that really hap-pened. Sometimes Satan tries

to take people away from God by taking over their bodies and lives. This is what hap-pened to a boy in the time

when Jesus was walking among us.

Había un niño que sufrió de un demonio. Le echó en el fuego o en el agua. Los discípulos no pudieron echar a ese demonio. Jesús sanó al niño.

Jesus ordered the demon to come out of the boy. He told his disciples that with faith, “Nothing will be impossible for you.”

KNIGHT OF COLUMBUS CORNER

Huge Turnout at the Parish Picnic!

The Knights of Columbus were delighted

to be a part of this year’s festivities. So many pa-

rishioners showed up that we had to run to the

store for an additional 100 hot dogs. The kids

played soccer and the potato sack races, balloon

toss and other contests were fun and competitive.

(The boys and girls competed together in each of

the age divisions and the girls won 2 out of the 3

for the potato sack races!) Don’t forget! The Pan-

cake Breakfast runs from 9:00 am—Noon today!

To join the Knights, call Kevin Van Hollebeke

Committee will have a Play N’ Pak in the Narthex marked “spiritual adop-

tion” during the month of October in which gifts for our spiritually adopted

babies can be placed. Please bring your unwrapped gifts marked “spiritual

adoption Program”. All gifts will be donated to Angelorum Next Step Preg-

Quiz of the Month: Our spiritually adopted babies are now 8 months old.

During this month, nature puts the finishing touches on your unborn child.

What are these finishing touches? For answers to this question, please

check the kiosk and the beautiful picture of a new tiny unborn baby.

PRAYERS NEEDED AT PLANNED PARENTHOOD CLINIC—EVERETT Please prayerfully consider joining us at the Everett Clinic on Mondays or

Wednesdays at 10:00 am. For the last ten years St. Brendan parishioners

have been praying at Planned Parenthood Clinics. They started at the

Kenmore clinic and were instrumental in its closing. Those same prayers

have moved on to the Everett Clinic and are now in their third year. Their

efforts seem to have had some effect as it caused the clinic to hire its own

demonstrators who brandish signs praising its services. Additional prayers

are needed, especially on Wednesdays. Carpooling is available. For more

information, call Ron Fernandes at 425-821-3599.

ST. BRENDAN YOUNG AT HEART GROUP FOR SENIORS Senior parishioners are invited to join us in the Church Narthex for our first

meeting for the 2017-18’ season...and what an enjoyable meeting it promis-

es to be! Our guest of honor will be Fr. Wichert, so this will be an excellent

opportunity to learn more about our new pastor and his dreams for our par-

ish. Please mark you calendar for 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 4.

Please bring food to share for the potluck luncheon afterwards. If you have

any questions, feel free to contact Donna at 425-488-1373.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THESE EXPECTANT MOTHERS: Rachel Alder, Angela Dorsett & Tessa Hain

If you are expecting a baby and would like your parish family to

pray for you or someone you know who would like prayer,

please call Mary Hradec at 425-275-1896.

ONLINE GIVING

Every person’s finances

and family situation is dif-

ferent. Jesus makes it

clear that it matters not

how much one gives, but

that it is planned, calculat-

ed, at least some-

what sacrificial (see Luke

24:1-4), and not simply

from what is “leftover” at

the end of the month. We

propose the tithe (10%) as

the ideal every family can

consider working to-

wards. This means taking

steps to give 5% to one’s

parish, and 5% to other

charities or causes you

have personal passion for.

You can register online at
