NEWS FROM NAMALAKA “Dear Marie, brothers and sisters at St. Brendan Parish,

Greetings from St. Joseph, Malawi. I have read the financial report with gratitude and I feel encouraged by your

love and support. To God be glory. We are hereby reporting that electricity is paid. They are now mobilizing

materials for the work. I am optimistic that by the time our sister Bridget comes, something tangible will be

done. The feeding program is in progress and continues to perform wonders. The Primary Education Advisor

(PEA) and District Education Manager (DEM) both acknowledged and appreciate our effort and feel satisfied

with the project. Based on the report of the Bishop I acknowledge that the money you wired for electricity and

feeding program has been received. We are also collecting “masika”. Masika is one tenth of one’s harvest.

We have collected 40 bags from four small Christian communities. St. Joseph has 11 small Christian commu-

nities. We thank God for the good harvest this year. I am sure you will join us in prayer. The work at the Fa-

ther’s House is temporarily suspended to financial status. However, the Bishop is making efforts to ensure that

the project is completed in good time and that soon work will resume.” Yours in Christ, Fr. Chris

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS (RCIA) What do Catholics believe? Are they Christian? Do they worship Mary? These are some of the questions peo-

ple ask who are not Catholic wonder about. Are you someone wondering about the answers to these ques-

tions? Would you like to explore the Catholic Faith or become Catholic yourself? If you answered yes, come join

us on July 17 and August 14 to see if RCIA is for you. These meetings will be an introduction to the RCIA pro-

cess which will continue weekly in the fall. For more information or to sign up for these meetings, email Pat

Ibach at [email protected] or all the Parish Office at 425-483-9400.

of the many books by and/or about her and then

share when we gather on Monday, July 31st. We

meet at 7:00 pm in Brendan House Dining Room at

the Parish Office. Questions? Call Berni at 425-485

Fr. Roger O’Brien, who has served our parish, is having major surgery July 7

lasting 8 hours to eradicate an urological infection he’s been dealing with

since last August. He will be hospitalized for 10 days then rehab for 6

weeks. Doctors say he may be very weakened and not recover to full energy

for 6 months. Beth Egan, MSW Health Care Manager for Fr. Roger, will pro-

vide updates on his progress or can be contacted at 206-854-2872 for

clearance to visit. Visitors and phone calls are discouraged for the initial

month or so. Written notes or cards may be sent to him from July 9 to July

13 at Virginia Mason Hospital, 925 Seneca Street, Seattle 98101. Notes

during his rehab from July 18 to August 21 can be sent to Skyline, 725 9th

Avenue, Seattle 98104. Fr. Roger thanks you for your very gracious concern

and heartfelt prayers expressed in many cards and calls. He is more grate-

ful than he can ever say. “This is a daunting venture” he says, but he is at

peace and convinced that the competence and care of the Virginia Mason

team will bring him a better quality of life.

ONLINE GIVING

Every person’s finances

and family situation is dif-

ferent. Jesus makes it

clear that it matters not

how much one gives, but

that it is planned, calculat-

ed, at least some-

what sacrificial (see Luke

24:1-4), and not simply

from what is “leftover” at

the end of the month. We

propose the tithe (10%) as

the ideal every family can

consider working to-

wards. This means taking

steps to give 5% to one’s

parish, and 5% to other

charities or causes you

have personal passion for.

You can register online at

www.saintbrendan.org

and click on the link

“Online Registration/New

corner of website and to

give online, click on the

“Online Giving” link. It’s

quick, secure, convenient,

and easy. Your support

helps sustain our parish.

If you need help with

online giving, please call

Archdiocesan goal, and we can begin working towards our goal of $173,000 to

restore our stained glass windows. Remember, anything over the Archdioce-

san goal comes back to St. Brendan as a rebate. It is not too late to return

your pledge envelope, so please fill out a pledge envelope today or go online to

donate: www.seattlearchdiocese.org/donate

DID YOU KNOW your Annual Catholic Appeal gift could be doubled? Many

companies MATCH gifts to the Annual Catholic Appeal! Check if your employer

has a Matching Gift Program and help us maximize our REBATE for our parish

project. Once your gift has been paid in full, you can apply for the match per

your employer’s instructions.

PETER PENCE COLLECTION Thank you for your generous support in last week’s Peter’s Pence Collection!

As a parish, we collected $970. Our contributions will be combined with those
