Sometimes the Sunday readings come as a swift kick in the pants. Today’s readings are some of those readings. In the Gospel from St. Mark, Jesus tells the Apostles what was ahead for Him – and for them. “Whoever wishes to come after Me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.

For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and that of the gospel will save it.” Peter can not understand why Jesus should suffer, nor why he himself should. Jesus rebukes Peter and invites him and all of us, to join him in this selfless way of life. Jesus shows us by His example that real love requires toughness as much as tenderness. Our second reading teaches that real faith is practiced through service or “works.” Paul goes so far as to write that “faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” Today’s readings tells us that faith and love are not alive in us until they are demonstrated through service to others for the sake of the Gospel. Service of any kind will involve some self-denial, but when I embrace this way of life, I have the joy of knowing my faith and love are real. By laying down my life for Him, I gain a life that is really worth living.

Aids Supper ClubDid you know that each month four groups of St. Ann volunteers prepare hot, delicious and nourishing meals for men, women and children living with AIDS?

Through the generous support of St. Ann’s coupled with the support of members of our parish these meals are home made in the kitchens of our team members. The meals are then transported to two houses in South Dallas where we serve the meals to 12-60 residents. Without the AIDS Supper Club these men, women and children would have no evening meal.

How can you help? Sign up and receive an email copy of each month’s menu. Either provide the raw ingredients needed for the menu OR cook the menu item yourself using your favorite recipes.Volunteer to help deliver, serve, and clean up

St. Ann ‘s Parish Fall Golf Scramble Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, September 29th with a 7:30 am shotgun start at Bear Creek Golf Course. The tournament is open to all parishioners, friends, and neighbors. Create your own foursome, threesome, twosome, or sign up as a single. Tournament is limited to the first 120 paid players. Cost per player is $85 which covers green fees, cart, range balls, beverages, prizes, and lunch. El Rito de la Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos (RICA) es el proceso por el cual los adultos no bautizados u bautizados en otra denominación cristiana se unen a la Iglesia Católica. El proceso de RICA se desarrolla dentro del contexto de la comunidad parroquial y después de un período de formación adecuado culmina en la recepción de los Sacramentos de Iniciación: Bautismo, Eucaristía y Confirmación. La formación incluye varias áreas:

• Escritura: La historia del pueblo de Dios. • Enseñanza: Lo que creen los católicos. • Oración: Cómo nos comunicamos con Dios. • Liturgia: Cómo la comunidad adora. • Misión: Cómo vivimos lo que creemos.

RICA también es adecuado para adultos que fueron bautizados como católicos, pero aún no han recibido los Sacramentos de la Eucaristía y la Confirmación. Inscripciones están abiertas para iniciar las sesiones el 13 de Septiembre.
