פנחסThe evil Bilaam advised Balak that the way
to win over the Bnei Yisroel was to cause the Jews to sin against Hashem. By doing this it would lead Bnei Yisroel to ultimately do avo-da zara.
When Zimri Ben Salu of shevet Shimon caused an awesome chillul Hashem, the young Kohen Pinchas risked his life and fought for the honor of Hashem. Hashem rewarded the tzadik Pinchas. Most kohanim would be his children, he would become Eliyahu Hanavi.
What do we learn from this? At times we face
people who are going against the Torah. They may be many and you but one. You will ask yourself “How can I stand against them?”
The answer is that, just as Pinchas stood up for the Hashem and the Torah, it seemed im-possible, yet Hashem helped him. Those that follow what Hashem asks of them will succeed and win.
Pinchas set the standard for us forever. A Jew stands up for what is correct and proper in the eyes of Hashem. We are not afraid of numbers, because Hashem is with us!
We are so excited to celebrate your son’sbirthday in camp. Please e-mail the camp at
[email protected], to schedule a bunk visit to thecanteen. We suggest $2 per camper so that the
bunk may celebrate together. No outside refreshments will be allowed on campus.
BIRTHDAY PARTIES
By Rabbi Saldinger
I can't believe 2 weeks have already flown by, as we continue pumping Simcha b' Simcha. The campers took full advantage of all of the fields to enjoy fun in the sun in Simcha. Yidel and his merry crew of water engineers were hard at work, putting out ice cold water throughout the camp. In addition, ices were distributed by dismissal and water bottles for the buses as well. (My favorite color ices is purple but there are those who claim they all taste the same. Pshaw I say!)
Boruch Hashem many of the bunks have started having a second swim this week, as our smaller bunk groups have been tested and placed in their appropriate pool sections, shallow, intermediate and deep water. Our professional swim instruction program led by our very own Mr. Eric Maslin and his ripped staff has been training the campers in proper form and technique, while leaving time for some free swim as well.
The CARNIVAL was everything it was cracked up to be, and more! There were brand new amazing rides that wowed us all. The main attraction was a humongous tower that had a twenty foot drop onto a large blow up pad. The campers at SDC showed their bravery and made the leap of joy. Another fun new attraction was the Battle Zone where two campers had an old fashion joust to see who could knock the other one onto the pads below. The longest line was by the shlushie machine if course (which is really like puple ices if you think about it. Someone said it was to sweet and to that I say Pshaw again!) Battle axe throwing! water slides! and obstacle courses! kept everyone busy and smiling. Talking about smiling, have you ever tried smiling while your mouth is propped open with a plastic spoon looking contraption? I did! I felt like I was at the dentist! Try saying mop with your mouth propped open! Imtossitle!
The MIDs have a welcome new addition to their regular geshmakeh activity programming. The cool dojos of Warren Levy karate came to camp, introducing the three focus rules (focusing eyes, mind, and body). They learned basic combos and even some flying kicks. The summer curriculum will focus on discipline and character development, while the campers enjoy learning karate basics.
On Tuesday night, the 50s had a fun late night with our massive pool all to themselves, followed by intense league games. Our competitive league program focuses on healthy competition and coordination with achdus at it's core. Can you believe we actually have five separate leagues in camp?!
Speaking of leagues, SDC is in a league of it's own according to the Board of Health! We were visited on Thursday but Mrs. Wanda Phelptroniks from the Board of Health, who was blown away by how nice the campers at SDC are and how well behaved and b'achdus everyone is! She kept on repeating “Thank you Hashem for Sinka Day Camp! I wish my own children would go here!" We got an A+ and a perfect inspection! Way to go SDC! Thank you Rabbi Sudwerts for all you do for our camp!
Get ready to twirl your mustache while you eat some tacos this coming Mexican Wedensday! Our very own Cinco de Mayo! Please start practicing your spanish skills.
LIVE REPORT!
The Bronx zoo and Area 51 has reported that one of their secret species of animals has gone missing. It was reported lost last night and there were sightings in the Beach 17th and Seagirt area in the past few hours. If you do see a strange looking bird like animal, do not approach it or try to take it captive. Just call the hotline on the back of this newsletter. Trained professionals are standing by in case if emergency.
SDC would like to wish a big huge mazel tov to Rabbi Yoni Goldstein on the birth of a baby boy (and future SDC camper be"H!). Zoom Bris info available upon request. Looking forward to an amazing week 3 here at SDC! May we all share in simchos at Simcha!!!

Helllooooo CITs of 2020!!We are definitely off to a rip roaring and rockin' start! Our numbers are bigger
than they've ever been, which means that our awesomeness is bigger and better than it's ever been!
Leagues this week got off to a great start. Hail Mary game ending touchdowns (That's right Kranzler), volleys that would make any olympic team proud, baseball, basketball; it's all been crazy and awesome. Thank you Assistant Commish Guez for all your help; all CITs please take up all complaints with him:)
The late nights have been great, with the swimming, sports, and of course Mrs.
Levy's delicious food; they've been a great opportunity to bond and chill in a relaxed setting.
R' Josh Leyton is, of course, an indispensable part of everything we are about- thanks so much for everything you do!
Of course, as always, a huge THANK YOU goes out to all the CITs for everything you all do, day in and day out! YOU guys are the future leaders of SDC!!! YOU guys are the ones everyone in camp looks up to! YOU guys are the ones who set the tone on campus, and whether you are working with a bunk, helping out at the carnival, or playing sports all day, you are the role models for everyone at SDC, and I truly thank you for everything you do every single day!
Looking forward to seeing you all next week!!!!All the best,
