These foundations enable our students to be confident and successful individuals, who take responsibility for their learning and actions, respect others and celebrate the differences and diversity they find in the world around them.

Small classes and a low student/teacher ratio ensure our students are able to work closely and effectively with their teachers. under careful guidance, our students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning. They demonstrate this responsibility in many ways, including working towards targets and leading conferences with their parents.

we place significant emphasis on the importance of developing the whole student. Our strong academic curriculum is supported by a rigorous global Citizenship programme, which equips all of our students with the knowledge and skills to become confident and significant members of the global community. further support comes from a rich and varied extra-curricular programme.

CurrICuLuM

Our curriculum prepares our students for the gCSE and IgCSE examinations, which are taken in year 11, and lead to A-levels. we are proud to be one of the few schools in hong kong offering the prestigious A-levels programme in year 12 and 13. These qualifications are recognised worldwide as excellent pre-university qualifications.

All students entering year 7 are timetabled to study English, Maths, Science, geography, history, PE, Music, Design & Technology and Art. Languages are part of the cultural richness of our society and the world in which we live and work. Our language programme begins in year 7 with every student studying at least one language. In year 8 students are offered the opportunity to study an additional language.

The global Citizenship programme is an adaptation of the uk Department for Education’s Personal, Social, health and Economic Education programme. It teaches students how to lead a safe, responsible and healthy lifestyle and to develop effective relationships within both the family unit and society. The global Citizenship programme runs all the way through the Senior School from year 7 to year 13.

Both the Preparatory and Senior Schools have a limited number of places available for students with Special Educational Needs whose individual requirements can be met in a mainstream setting through provision of a differentiated curriculum. The number of places available is determined by the level of student need within the SEN programme at the time.

Learning support may also be offered to students who have experienced an English-medium curriculum with study units similar to but not synchronised to the National Curriculum. Inclusion also focuses on those students whose academic ability significantly exceeds that of their peers. These students form part of our extension programme, which supports students who excel in certain areas.

we believe these areas are a core element of a balanced education, and so they are delivered through both the curriculum and extra-curricular activities. Our aim is to provide opportunity and encourage participation and sportsmanship, whilst promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. Students in years 7—11 participate in 3 hours of physical activity a week with a 2-hour games lesson and a 1-hour core physical education lesson whilst students in years 12 and 13 all participate in one core physical education lesson per week.

Our high-quality PE curriculum and extra-curricular sporting programme enables all students to enjoy and succeed in various physical activities. They develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully on the sports field and in life. Students who show particular promise or excel in their chosen sport are offered numerous opportunities to train with our exceptional coaches and compete at a higher level, representing the school across hong kong and the region through the federation of British International Schools in Asia (fOBISIA).

Purpose-built art studios, design and technology suites, exhibition spaces, a 380-seat theatre, top-of-the-range music suites and practice rooms, drama and dance studios all help to create an exceptional learning environment. however, these wonderful facilities form just part of the excellence that makes up the Creative and Performing Arts at kellett School. The breadth of the curriculum, the extensive extra-curricular activities offered and the strength in teaching expertise in this area are what give the Arts at kellett School its strong and enviable reputation.

high expectations are placed upon the students at all year levels and units of work are ambitious and designed to inspire a strong sense of creativity and individualism. All students are able to enjoy and learn to appreciate art-making and art-studying and build upon their creative successes in a positive, nurturing environment.

The students’ works have a high profile around the school with regular displays and an annual exhibition, which is put on both in school and at an external public venue.

Drama at kellett in years 7—9 is structured to provide a breadth of experience in Making, Performing and responding and these skills are developed and honed within years 10—11 and years 12—13 as the students become more sophisticated practitioners. All activities take full advantage of our purpose-built spaces from the fully equipped kellett Theatre, to the dance and drama studios. Theatre Technicians also support the department providing guidance to our student technical team.

Throughout the year we offer a number of drama workshops, conducted by our own specialists and also by outside providers. These are intended to build on the skills developed in curriculum drama but also to provide extension work. A large number of theatre visits also provide drama enrichment for our students.

At the centre of our programme is the Senior Music curriculum, which is dynamically styled to immerse our students in Performance, Composition and the Appraisal of music to an advanced level. All activities take full advantage of our purpose-built Music Suite, which includes an Apple Music Technology Suite, rehearsal and Ensemble rooms, Professional Theatre and Music Library. A dedicated team of Music and Theatre Technicians also support the students, staff and school.

Throughout the year, there are numerous performance opportunities for all of our students. Some of these events are concerts, some are competitions and workshops and others are combined events with other curriculum areas and the Preparatory School.

The house System is designed to support students pastorally throughout their time in the Senior School. Each student is allocated to a Tutor group within one of the houses, with each house consisting of one Tutor group from year 7—13. A head of house is in place to have a holistic view of the students’ pastoral and academic progress. The head of house works closely with the Tutors, the student well-being Team and the Senior School Leadership Team to support students throughout their time at kellett School. Additionally, the house System rewards students for excellent work in lessons, and for participation in activities. It provides our students with opportunities to develop their skills, sportsmanship, appropriate behaviour and fair play. The challenge and enjoyment of participating in a wide range of sports, arts and academic activities makes a significant contribution to the overall pride each student has in their house.

Engagement in a rigorous academic programme, supported by The Sixth form Core, allows students the opportunity to develop attractive academic and personal profiles in preparation for the next stage of their education. whilst academic A-levels are at the very heart of what we offer, we also believe strongly in the development of intellectual curiosity. we strive to develop innovative, creative and imaginative students.

In order to ensure that students can successfully access the taught curriculum, we have a minimum expectation of prior attainment. All students applying to the school will be interviewed by the head of Sixth form or a member of the Sixth form Team and will take a series of entrance tests. for further information on entry requirements, please contact the Admissions team [email protected]

kellett students have the opportunity to become part of our year 14 programme. The year 14 programme allows students to structure their gap year experience with the help of kellett staff who are able to offer advice, support and networking opportunities. we expect year 14 students to actively engage with community service both in hong kong and further afield, and we encourage students to develop skills that will help them thrive at university and in the workplace. There is also an integral element of “pay it forward” where year 14 students can help to support younger members of our community with mentorship and advice.

Our Careers and university guidance Team provides all the information, support and guidance a student needs to make the right decision about what to do after Sixth form. Each student is provided with one-to-one guidance to help them decide which course and higher education establishment best fits their profile, including understanding the entry procedures for applications to uk, uSA, Canada, Australia and hong kong. we regularly host a wide range of university representatives from all over the world and we host university Admissions fairs each year.
