■ If you have not already done so – log-in to your Naviance account and begin exploring possible college or career options!

■ Begin a list within your Naviance account of schools you might be interested in – this list can be saved in your account and edited at any time throughout your college selection process. (The College SuperMatch can assist in narrowing your selection!)

■ Check-out all of our college and career visits in the fall! This is an excellent opportunity to connect with Admissions Representatives and gain a better perspective of what schools offer! This past fall we had 100 colleges, technical schools, and cosmetology schools visit Nonnewaug!

■ If you have specific questions regarding this or you do not see a school listed to visit that you’re interested in – please see Mrs. McGrath-Rocco in the CCRC!

■ Remember! You will ultimately use your Naviance account to link-up with your Common App account, to request transcripts, and where your letters of recommendation will be uploaded – so familiarize yourself with it!

■ If you are having any trouble logging-in to your account – see Mrs. McGrath-Rocco ASAP to reset your password!

■ Nonnewaug (Woodbury MS) IS a testing site!

■ In taking the SAT up to three times you can typically see an increase in your scores!

■ All PSAT & SAT scores will be available through your College Board accounts

■ Your College Board account will not only allow you to register for the SAT but will link with Khan Academy for additional SAT prep!

■ Linking your scores with Khan Academy creates a tailored practice plan, specific to your needs, based on a diagnostic of your PSAT/ SAT scores

■ Keep in mind – 9 hours of Khan practice has been proven to significantly boost your SAT score!

Scholarships will begin to be available late December- early January! Local Scholarships will not be made available until the end of Jan. – beginning of Feb.

In addition to traditional four year schools visiting, we host a number of trade/ technical school options. We make yearly trips to some of our more local schools including Porter and Chester & Naugatuck Valley Community College.

■ We have approximately 80-100 schools visit NHS in the fall – including military, technical, and trade schools!

■ We have had numerous field trips, including visits to the Culinary Institute of America, the Hartford National College Fair, Naugatuck Valley Community College, Porter and Chester, Central CT State University, and UConn Waterbury.

■ We will be scheduling several more trips in the fall, in addition to our rep visits!

■ Be sure to listen to our announcements and follow us on Twitter to keep up with all that is happening regarding upcoming trips and visits!

■ Utilize your spring break and summer vacation – VISIT schools that you’re interested in!

√ Log-in to Naviance & begin your college/ career search; add schools to your college list and save in Naviance.

√ VISIT – begin visiting potential schools!

√ Request letters of recommendation from teachers (Be sure to give them a copy of your resume!)

√ Take your SAT/ ACT; Juniors took the SATs on SAT School Day in March – there are additional dates available in the spring/ summer!

√ Make an appt. with your counselor to discuss your future plans

√ Make an appt. with Mrs. McGrath-Rocco for assistance with applications, interview prep., essays, resumes, and specific college/ career searching!
