iHawk Demonstration Night On Wednesday, November 15, 2017, iHawk celebrated an amazing night of student successes! iHawk 1 and iHawk 2 students spent the evening showing off to parents, community members, and educators from around the state. Our iHawk 3 students spoke to parents about how powerful their internships have been and facilitated presentations for iHawk 2. We are so proud of our AMAZING academy students! Special thanks to Alan Smith, Sandra Miller, Jessica Perez and Carrie Short for teaching and supporting these amazing students! SAVE THE DATE: Our spring demonstration night will be March 19, 2018. Come out and see iHawk students in action. A HUGE shout out to Jessica Perez. She has placed almost all of our iHawk 3 students in internships in careers that they are pursuing. We have students at the Clearwater Aquarium, Jannus Live, All Childrens, and much…much more. This was a laborious task but she worked with students to ensure they are really at places they want to be and that will provide real connections to their future self. THANK YOU JESSICA…YOU ROCK!

3iHawk on the High Ropes Course

On November 1, 2017, iHawk 2 students conquered the High Ropes course at USF. Not only does this require an immense amount of teamwork, many students faced fears and developed confidence, plus they had a BLAST. Thanks Coach G for being my partner on this trip!– Carrie Short, iHawk Director

5Table Tennis Superstar Jenson Van Emburgh, a Seminole High senior is ranked 41st in the world in table tennis. He is a member of the 2017 US Para Junior National Table Tennis Team. Best of luck to you in your next tournament Jenson – we are rooting for you!

We have a superstar among us! Good Morning Tampa Bay recently filmed Jenson Van Emburgh for a special segment on their show.

PMAC Shines! The Principal’s MultiCultural Advisory Committee and Gay-Straight Alliance partnered up with CommUnity Tampa Bay to host another Youth Leadership Conference/”Unity Day” here at SHS on Friday, 11/10. We invited a diverse group of students from the school to participate in community-building exercises and discussed how to break down the barriers of discrimination here at Seminole High. The feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive, and we look forward to offering another such event (with hopefully more participants) in the spring! See Mrs. Crawley in C-15 for more information on how you can get involved!

Theatre Students Shine at FTC! The SHS Theatre Students dominated the one act festival at the Florida Theatre Conference (FTC) with rave reviews from the judges and peers. They all commended us for how well they talked to each other on stage and really listened. A very difficult skill that they all admitted they rarely see in high school performers. Huge praise for our students!!! Everyone did so well in college auditions! I even had several kids receive callbacks from 15-20 colleges and universities.

WHAT?!?!?!??! We had many students j o y o u s l y r e c e i v e immediate acceptance into theatre programs. Scholarship money is rolling in as we speak! Watching these s t u d e n t s d e v e l o p c o m m u n i c a t i o n / interview skills talking to the college reps and professors was

invaluable. Also, so many indelible life lessons were learned! This was truly an awesome trip for these students. Also, shout out to Matt Merryman who was an amazing chaperone and we couldn’t have done it without him!!! These students have been working so hard and it definitely paid off. They represented Seminole High with such professionalism and talent. I could not be more proud.– Ms. Palmer, Theatre Instructor

Have a Wonderful Holiday Season! From the SHS Warhawk Family

Cross Country traveled to Disney’s Wide World of Sports this fall and had tremendous success with many athletes setting new PRs!

Girlfriends Help the Homeless On Wednesday, November 15, 2017, the Girlfriends of SHS were able to deliver enough food, baked chicken, potato salad, baked beans, cornbread, cabbage greens, sweet potato pies, mac and cheese, green bean bake, mashed potatoes, sweet peas and carrots, and stuffing, for over 50 people for the residents of Pinellas HOPE, an agency that provides housing for the homeless in Clearwater, Florida. All girls made or bought food for the dinner. We couldn’t serve because lunch was at 1:00, but we were able to get a tour and learn about the sensitivities of the homeless, their needs, their hardships and how we can assist them in the future. Good Job Ms. Williams, Ms. Kent and Ms. Lovett in assisting with the project. If you would like to be a mentor for a girlfriend, please email Mrs. Lovett, our social worker, at [email protected]. In December, the Girlfriends have planned a Holiday visit to the Oak Tree Manor Nursing home to sing carols and deliver cards and homemade candy canes!! We are proud of our Girlfriends!
