Overview: The chart on page 168 (and Table B on page 169) indicates that the underlying trend in the demand for Reception places from children resident in this planning area shows a decline. The schools in the planning area are popular and consistently oversubscribed and have historically alleviated pressure from neighbouring planning areas, particularly Dewsbury South and Dewsbury West. In 2017/18 there were a small number of unfilled Reception places. In 2018/19 there were a small number of unfilled Reception places at National Offer Day. The pattern of pupil distribution illustrates that the majority of children (89%) living in the planning area attend schools in the area, with a number of pupils (26%) attending schools here from neighbouring planning areas. There are well-established trends of movement into the area from Dewsbury South and Dewsbury West.

For 2019, 2020 and 2021 the population data indicates that the potential demand for places from those living in the planning area will show a moderate decrease, however, it is not anticipated that the schools will have significant numbers of unfilled places as there are well-established trends of movement into the area, particularly from Dewsbury South and Dewsbury West. There are strategic housing developments proposed in the Local Plan in these neighbouring areas which may have an impact on future demand. Place planning summary for Planning Area 20. Mirfield

Place planning data for three cohorts of children : Reception, Y1 and Y2 From NHS Feb 2018 and School Census Jan 2018 Note numbers in [square brackets] show the average number of children per year group

Place planning strategy (assuming current patterns of migration, housing occupancy, parental preference etc)

Based on NHS population data the projected need for places is below the capacity of available places

On balance, more children travel IN to schools in the PA from neighbouring PAs

No immediate need for additional places.

The chart above shows the size of each year group in the child population in the planning area and the neighbouring planning areas for Reception cohorts Sep 2014 to Sep 2021. The dotted line shows the underlying trend in the size of the pupil population for each area. The bar chart shows the number of reception class places available in each planning area, based on the Published Admission Numbers (PANs) of the schools in the area. The yellow shading highlights the data for Reception classes in September 2019.
