Course Announcement Sector Governance in Urban Sanitation Course Objectives The training wants to enhance the capacity of local decision-makers to make the most efficient, effective and equitable use of investments in sanitation. Please note that the emphasis of the course is not on technical solutions but rather on economical, financial and institutional aspects. If you are concerned with sanitation in a water utility, in a local, federal or national government or in an NGO, then you will most certainly profit from this e-learning course! Elements and characteristics of the e-learning course Web-based intensive course with asynchronous work, online forum and online moderated expert chats. The flexi- bility allows individuals to select how long and when they intend to spend learning within the course period. The course has a strong collaborative component: The discussions with your tutors and with your fellow partici- pants at the regular chats or individual chats have at least the same importance as the learning content itself! Duration Total course duration: 4 weeks in September 2012. Participants should be aware that they will need around 60 hours for reading the course material. Additional time for study of in-depth resources, for collaborational on-line work and for the exam should as well taken into account. Target group Senior managers and supervisors in water and sanitation utilities, in a local, federal or national government, in associations, NGOs or other related organisations. The interactive e-learning course is offered on the GIZ - plat- form "Global Campus 21". Preference is given to participants from the WAVEplus programme in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, and South Sudan and to participants nominated by organisations related to ACWUA in the MENA region. Requirements for participation in the course Sound internet access (at least 10h/week), computer equipment, PDF Reader, up-to-date browser. Fluent knowledge of English language. The course is available in an offline version (download) as well, but com- munication in the forum with tutors and other participants is done via Internet. Applicants have to complete an initial multiple choice test (available online only) before being permitted. Certificates Participants will receive a certificate in electronic form (PDF) from GIZ and ACWUA. Requirements: Active partici- pation in forum and chats and passing a multiple-choice test and/or assigned tasks. Capacity development perspectives Successful participants shall be part of an online follow-up programme enhancing the network of professionals in the water sector and share experiences, and further expand opportunities for growth. The course «Sector Governance in Urban Sanitation» was developed in 2008 on behalf of InWEnt Human Capac-ity Development (Germany), United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), and World Bank Insti-tute (WBISD) by Samir Bensaid (Mod. 1), Nils Janson (Mod. 2), and Fadhel Ghariani (Mod. 3).
