Membership - Membership is a core value of IEEE. The breakout sessions in this track will focus on how Geographic Units can engage the member at the local level such that the value of their membership increases. Additionally sessions will focus on the recruitment and retention of IEEE members. Section Operations - A Section is the basis of the focus of all local activities. The breakout sessions in this track will provide information on obtaining support and resources from the IEEE organization and the best practices for having a successful section. Section/Chapter Activities - The success of the IEEE is dependent on the continued cooperation between Geographic Units on the local level. So far ………

Only ONE person from R8 in the programme!

(Christopher James: Track Chair)

Since there are 10 Regions, R8 should provide about 10% of the presenters – so there is work to be done

1. Nominating candidates (by 1st November 2007)

2. Persuading the Organising Committee to accept them

3. Ensuring that there is a source of funding to pay for them

Section Chairs = Primary Delegate = voting member of R8 Committee. R8 pays travel, no registration fee, maybe Section asked to pay added Hotel nights.Other voting members of R8 Committee (Vice Chairs, Director, etc.)R8 pays travel, R8 pays Registration Fee? R8 pays added Hotel nights?Non-voting members of R8 Committee (Subcommittee Chairs, R8 News Editor, Standards Coordinator, etc. etc.)R8 Pays travel, for the rest ????Added delegates per Section: Some preference for GOLD candidates, should in any case be ‘new’ to Sections CongressesSection may pay all, R8 may pay a part.

Categories:Others who are accepted to make presentations. My proposal is that such people get priority for R8 funding, because of their importance to R8 reputation.

See list of Prioritised proposals in Agenda Book

R8 Treasurer will advise how much it is prudent for R8 to spend on supporting Sections Congress

R8 Committee then decides the proportions to be allocated to each category within this total.

Region 8 is a very important Region within IEEE. With the possible exception of Region 10, it has the greatest cultural and national diversities, and it has a track record of many years of successful activity, so it is important for R8 to provide ‘leadership’ at Sections Congress, which implies a good attendance of well-prepared participants.

Some Sections are quite wealthy, and can afford to pay for a good representation – some are not, and R8 needs to assist them financially.
