No portion of this manual may be given away or sold without written consent from Next Chapter Learning. You may print one copy for your

personal use. Of course you may sell any bows you make with these instructions.

Supplies needed: Korker ribbon Lined clippy Lighter Scissors Hot glue gun

Measure out 6 inches of korker ribbon. You’ll need at least 6 – 10 strips that are each 6 inches long. Stack the korker ribbon together and place your finger at the center of them. I like to mix it up and put some of the inside ribbon face down and also some of the outside ribbon face down as I stack them. This helps the ribbon to go in different directions. Once you get all the korker strips stacked, lift from the table and pinch the middle together with your fingers.

Wrap a small piece of ribbon around the center to hold them in place. Glue the ribbon securely at the back.

Now you can glue it down securely to the center of a lined clip.

Cut the ends of the korker as you prefer. They can all be the same lengths or have a variety of lengths. Heat seal your ends after cutting, with the pass of a lighter.

Start with 2 pieces of your 1 ½ inch ribbon. I like to use about 4 inches and about 3 inches. You can make different size butterflies, but this yields a good size one to start.

Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon is on the bottom, as shown. Now bring your needle and thread across the exact center of the ribbons – about 3 stitches should be fine.

Pull your thread through tightly and then wrap around the center a few times to hold it tightly in place.

Page 7: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Bring the needle through the loops you just created when you wrapped the center. This will help hold securely in place with a solid knot.

Now bring the two largest pieces of ribbon (the top) together and towards each other, as shown.

Cut a rounded shape to the ribbon for the top wings of the butterfly. Now do the same with the bottom ribbons. Bring the ends together – up and to the center. Cut a rounded shape.

Page 8: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Heat seal all around where you cut, with the pass of a lighter.

Now for the antenna. Take a 6 inch piece of ¼ inch grosgrain (doesn’t have to have stitching like the one in photo) and cut a chunk out of the center of the ribbon from one end, down about 1 inch, as shown.

Quickly seal these ends with the pass of a lighter. If your ribbon is a lighter color, you might see a burn mark on the fabric, so practice (or use darker ribbon).

Page 9: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Place a small line of glue along the back of your antenna ribbon piece so you can attach it to the wings.

Press down firmly in the exact center and allow a few seconds to dry. You can then fold the excess tail of the ribbon around the back of the butterfly and glue in place.

Glue on some googly eyes, if you’d like.

Page 10: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Supplies needed: 12 inches of ¼ inch ribbon 24-32 inches of korker ribbon (depends on how long you want 8 legs to be) Black boa feathers Lighter Piece of cardboard Scissors Hot glue gun Googly eyes

Page 11: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Start with a piece of your boa about 6 inches long. Use hot glue to roll the strip of boa up into a circular shape. Just roll it up a bit like a jelly roll and use some hot glue to hold in place.

Start hot gluing pieces of your korker ribbon along the lined clip. I like to use 3-4 on each side equally spaced. Here’s a few I started shown in the photo.

Page 12: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Once you get all your legs glued on the lined clip, glue your boa round onto the top of the clip.

To glue on your eyes, I’ve found it easiest to first glue down an inch of extra black ribbon where the eyes are going to be.

Now you can glue your eyes onto the ribbon and they will stay in place. Its okay not to use the ribbon too, I just found it easier. You can arrange the boa feathers on top of the ribbon so its barely seen.

Now let’s make a tiny bow for the spider’s head. I think it makes it cuter! Take a piece of cardboard about the width you want your bow. Cut a bit out of the exact center (about ¼ inch) so we can mark the center. Then just wrap your ribbon around the cardboard to make an “awareness ribbon”

Place a 6 inch piece of ¼ inch (or smaller) ribbon directly behind the bow. Then bring both ends of the ribbon to the front. We are going to use this piece to wrap the bow and hold in place. You can see the bow starting to form as you pull the 6 inch piece of ribbon around the center, as shown.

Page 14: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

On the back side of the cardboard, make a knot with your center ribbon. You can cut off the excess ribbon. Now you can slide the bow off the cardboard. Simply cut the excess tail from your bow and glue to the top of your spider’s head.

Page 15: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Supplies needed: 1 inch ribbon ¼ or 3/8 inch ribbon Googly eye Hot glue gun Scissors

Start with a piece of 1 inch ribbon. The length should be twice as long as you want your fish. I’m using 6 inches of ribbon here for a 3 inch fish. Make a horseshoe shape, as shown, by bringing both ends of your ribbon in and down.

Page 16: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Copyright 2010. Next Chapter Learning. 16

Now simply cross the ends of your ribbon. You can see the fish is already forming!

Pull the ribbon tight so that the left side where they cross forms a tip. This is the fish nose.

Now pinch together about an inch from the left side.

Page 17: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Copyright 2010. Next Chapter Learning. 17

Wrap it with ¼ inch ribbon where you just made the pinch and tie in the back.

The excess ribbon at the back can then be cut off and the ends should be hot glued down to the back of the fish to hold securely in place.

Cut the ends of the ribbon to form the tail fins as you prefer. I folded my ribbon in half lengthwise and made a diagonal cut from the outer edge of the ribbon, to form a triangle cut.

Page 18: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Copyright 2010. Next Chapter Learning. 18

To keep the ends exactly even, heat seal them before you open the fold back up.

For a cute top fin, just make an “awareness ribbon” from a piece of ¼ inch ribbon. (To do this, just cross your ribbon tails.) Glue in place at the back of the fish.

Add a googly eye and your fish is complete! Just glue on to a lined clip to wear.

Supplies needed: 2 flowers from the stem (sold at any craft store and most dollar stores) Hot glue gun Embellishment for the center

Page 20: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Pull the pieces of your flower apart. Its pretty easy to do, just gently pop out the center piece of plastic that holds the layers together.

Now layer the pieces of flower petals however you like. For this one I’m using one pink one, then a yellow, then a pink. To create a pretty pattern.

Keep piling the layers on top of each other and be sure they are centered. Add a dab of hot glue as you go along to secure each layer to the previous one.

Page 21: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Copyright 2010. Next Chapter Learning. 21

TIP: Hold the layers in place with a pen or tip of scissors since the hot glue can easily seep through the thin layers of the flower and burn your fingers. Hot glue a gem or other fun embellishment or button to the center for a really pretty look! Now simply hot glue to a lined clip.

Page 22: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Supplies needed: ¼ inch ribbon (I like to use 2 different ones and layer them) Scissors Hot glue gun Lined clip

Page 23: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Cut 3 pieces of ribbon 6 inches long.

Layer the three pieces of ribbon and then fold at the center into a “V” shape. ** You can also make the inmost ribbon about an inch longer for another look to this heart.

Add a dab of glue at the center of each layer to hold in place. Just use a very small amount of glue.

Page 24: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Copyright 2010. Next Chapter Learning. 24

Now hot glue the point of the “V” onto the end of your lined clip, about ¼ inch.

One at a time, bring down the layers on the left side and glue down. This is the left side of your heart. If your top layer of ribbon is longer, glue it just below where the others meet on the lined clip.

Now bring down the layer on the right side and glue down each ribbon at the end (where my finger is in photo). Be sure to heat seal your ends, just before you glue it down, this will prevent fraying.

Page 25: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Cut 3 pieces of your ribbon, 6 inches each.

Fold the ribbon in half and pinch at the center. Place a small dab of glue so the ribbon stays together at the bottom of the “V”

Here are all three pieces of ribbon made into “V”s

Page 27: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Now glue the three “V”s down as shown. One on the left and one on the right (about ¼ inch from top). Then one on the top of the clip. Next, you’ll take each piece of each “V” and fold down to the center where you will glue in place, to form two loops for

each “V”. Here are the final loops created. All the ends of the ribbon are glued down at the center right under my finger. (My finger is blocking the lined clip.) Perfect for St. Patty’s Day!

Loop 1 piece of the polka dot ribbon in half, as shown.

Now loop the second piece of ribbon around and just about overlapping half way, as shown.

Glue the loops onto the lined clip as shown. Use a bit of glue between each layer to secure in place.

Page 30: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Loop the 2 inch strip of 1 inch wide black ribbon around and glue the ends to form a circle. (My black ribbon was a bit to wide so I just cut it to the appropriate width.)

Now glue the black ribbon loop down as shown.

Glue the eyes on with a dab of hot glue.

Page 31: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

To finish off the ladybug, use the excess black ribbon to make antenna. Cut the edges of the ribbon lengthwise. You need just about an inch long cut from either side of the ribbon.

Here is the ribbon with the 2 lengthwise sides cut off; one thin strip for each antenna. With a very quick pass of the lighter, move along the length of the ribbon strip. This heat seals it to prevent fraying and also curls the ends a big.

Cut two 6 inch strips of your ¾ inch ribbon. (shown at top of photo) Then loop each one around and use a small dab of glue to hold together in a circle. (show at bottom of photo)

Cross the two loops to form an “X” Wrap the center with craft wire or thread. Now hot glue the bow you just made onto the end of the clip (the open end, as shown), about ¼ inch from tip.

Page 34: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Hot glue the korker ribbon strip along the center to cover the middle of your bow and long enough to go across the full lined clip. For the antenna you can simply use 1/8 inch ribbon. Or you can cut ribbon in half like I’m doing here and it curls up nicely. Just use a brisk pass of the lighter on either ribbon you choose and it will curl up a bit more for you (practice this so you don’t burn the ribbon!)

Here’s the completed antenna I made. Leave about ¼ inch at the end where the ribbon is not cut down the center. This is the part you’ll glue just behind the korker ribbon strip. That’s all you need to do!

Page 35: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

I like to use a piece of cardboard, or in this case a spare ribbon roll to help make this ribbon. The width of your cardboard piece will be about the width of your bow so you don’t want something too big. Start with your ribbon end on the right and bring across the front then behind. Your ribbon roll is now on the right.

Bring the roll across the front to the left so your ribbon roll is now on the left.

Bring the roll across the back again, so your ribbon roll is now on the right.

Finally bring the roll back to the left side and cut off the excess ribbon from the roll. You can remove the ribbon from the roll and place a needle and thread directly through the center, about halfway through. To help hold in place, I like to use a large hairdressers clip through the center. Pull your loops apart as shown, to form an “X” for your bow loops.

Page 38: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Once you have your loops the way you like them, bring the needle and thread completely through and make a couple stitches to hold in place. Also, you could wrap the center with the extra thread, tightly, if you prefer.

To make a center knot for the bow, simply cross your ends (of a 4 inch piece of ribbon) and bring the top ribbon tail through the center. Pull gently. I like to use two layers of ribbon at the same time to make a thicker center knot.

Here is the completed center knot. Just hot glue to the middle of the bow and wrap the tails around the back and glue there too.

Cut three pieces of ribbon, 7 inches, 8 inches, and 6 inches Make your 7 inch piece and 8 inch piece into circles; to do this simply place a dab of glue on the end of the ribbon and loop around to connect. For the 6 inch piece, cut the ends with a triangle cut.

If you’d like, add a 3/8 inch or ½ inch piece of ribbon around the center of your loops and secure at the back with a dab of glue.

Now place the layers as shown and secure with a very small dab of hot glue if you want to help hold in place.

Squeeze the center together tightly and wrap with craft wire or thread. TIP: The less glue you’ve used up until this point, the easier this step will be!

Hot glue an embellishment on to the center of your bow to cover up the wire/thread.

Cut 2 pieces of ribbon, 6 inches each. You can use different lengths to make different size flowers. Make an “awareness ribbon” with your piece of ribbon. Then use your right hand to loop the tails in and together, so the “bad” side of the ribbon meets the “bad” side of the ribbon. Hot glue the ends together like this.

Now you can slide your ribbon seam to the center and you have a figure “8” shape. Do the exact same thing with your second piece of ribbon.

Page 44: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Glue down the first “figure 8” loops however you choose on a lined clip. I like mine off-centered, but you can put them on exactly straight if you’d like.

Now glue the other “figure 8” loops down to complete your flower. Add an embellishment or button to the center if you’d like, to finish off this design. ** You can also add multiple layers of “figure 8” loops to make a more full flower design.

Cut 3 strips of each of your three types of ribbon. You’ll need 3 strips 4 inches long; 3 strips 5 inches long, and 3 strips 6 inches long.

Start with just one of your ribbon sets and lay them out evenly around a circle as shown, crossing evenly at the middle of each ribbon. Use a needle and thread to hold in place at center (with the needle only halfway through the ribbons). If you have a “good” side and “bad” side to the ribbon, like this one shown, the “good” side faces down towards the table.

Now start with one ribbon and work your way around the circle. Take the end of the ribbon and bring it to the center. Flip the ribbon end to the opposite side and push through the center needle. Continue around the circle.

Page 47: Secrets to Hair Clippies Success to Hair Clippies Success.pdfbutterflies, but this yields a good size one to start. Overlap the 2 ribbon about halfway. Be sure the shorter length ribbon

Your completed flower will look like this and still have the needle sticking halfway in front, halfway in back. Now bring the needle all the way through and make a few extra stitches if you’d like to help hold in place. Knot the thread and cut off excess. Repeat the last 4 steps for all 3 groups of ribbon to create 3 layers for your flower.

Here are all three parts completed. Now simply stitch or glue together. The largest at the bottom and smallest on top.

Don’t line them all up exactly but turn them so they look nice and the loops for the top bow fill in the spaces between the loops on the bow below it. Glue or stitch a button on the top and then attach to lined clip.

Cut 4 inches of ribbon and fold in half (for the top wings. The “good” side should be facing in. Make a crease so you can see the center.

Now unfold the ribbon and lay across the table with the “good” side against the table. Bring each end up and loop it to the center, as shown. Place a dab of hot glue to hold in place. Do the same 2 step with a piece of 3 inch ribbon (for the bottom wings)

Here are the 2 ribbon loops we just created and our lined clip.

Attach the larger loops to the top of the clip, as shown. Now add the smaller set of loops to the bottom of the clip and have it meet just where the top loops stop. Glue a piece of ribbon down the center, use korker ribbon if you’d like. To add antenna, glue them directly behind the strip of ribbon down the center of your butterfly. *Instructions for antenna are located earlier in this manual.
