Secondary Audience Research Guidance
Focus Points
• What do real audiences consume?
• Who are the specific audiences for particular products?
• How do media industries target those audiences?
Format
• You should have one blog post (titled Secondary Audience Research) where you compile the research.
• There is no requirement to finish this post as we will need to discuss through a few issues that emerge from this.
Research Task 1
• Find a list of the most expensive music videos ever made:
-When were many of the videos released? -What is the most expensive video made in the
last 5 years (so, from 2008)?
Extra Challenge: do some research into the music industry and its struggles in the last 25 years
Research Task 2
• Try to find information about your audience by looking further into your genre. By researching the genre, there will hopefully be some indications of what the target audience would be.
• You should also do a profile of the band/artist whose song you are covering and do a profile of their audience or those of related/similar artists. Use uktribes.com to be specific (password: bkqteetw)
Research Task 3
• Identify what you think the most important ways are that your target audience are targeted. There are a list of different marketing strategies here (the bold red headings):
