Today’s Gospel relates to two events, the curing of two women. In the first miracle, a leader of the synagogue named Jairus, humbly fell at Jesus’ feet and asked Him to come to his house to cure his dying daughter. In the second miracle, the divine power of Jesus to heal is emphasized, along with the faith of the woman who secretly touched Him.

“Daughter, your faith has made you well” This is an invitation to full restoration. In fear and humility, she fell at His feet. In faith and healing Jesus lifted her up and declared to every-one that she is now clean.

Her faith had made her whole She was made whole simply by believing Jesus could heal her. Jesus’ words had cured her bleeding and healed her soul.

Jesus gave her a new name: Daughter With Jesus, she is not anonymous anymore, she is a daughter. Jesus healed and restored her. She is not the hemorrhaging woman; she is a daughter who is loved.

Jesus treats the haemorrhaging woman and Jairus’s daughter equally Jesus shows no special regard for the daughter of a leader Jairus, and no disregard for the haem-orrhaging woman, an un-clean and unimportant member of the society. The same healing power of God is available to both and thus to all.

Learn From Jesus during Lent Part 2 - Second Temptation We must not tempt God In the second temptation, the devil wants Jesus to tempt God by throwing himself off the pinnacle of the temple. Psalm 91 says, “He will give his angels charge of you, and on their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.” Jesus quotes Deuteronomy 6:16, “You shall not tempt the Lord your God.” What do we learn?

The moment we put God to the test, it means we do not really trust Him

Like Jesus we should refer to the word of God to find strength and insight to fight off evil

Our source of strength is the word of God

91th March - Saint Joseph’s Feast day Saint Joseph was a leader. But, not in the way we view leadership in our society today. He led as a man of faith and courage when he obeyed God in all things. He led as a just and righteous man. A man of honesty, integrity, and virtue. He led as a humble and silent being. He led as a man of compassion and mercy. He led as a man of prayer who listened to the word of God. He led as the family provider by working long hours. He led as a teacher by teaching Jesus his trade and how to live as a man. Joseph uniquely participated in the mystery of God’s plan of redemp-tion through simply being the man he was called to be. Joseph is a model to all men who choose to walk the way of the cross.

Lessons from the Gospel

Faith in Christ is always the answer

No doctor and no material posses-sion, can replace what Jesus Christ can do for us through faith

The law condemns but Jesus heals

and restores

We need to overcome fear and trust

in God who brings restoration, heal-

ing and life.

Chapter six: Some Pastoral Perspectives Accompanying the first years of married life

219. I recall an old saying: still water becomes stagnant and good for nothing. If, in the first years of marriage, a cou-ple’s experience of love grows stagnant, it loses the very excitement that should be its propelling force. Young love needs to keep dancing towards the future with immense hope. Hope is the leaven that, in those first years of en-gagement and marriage, makes it possible to look beyond arguments, conflicts and problems and to see things in a broader perspective. It harnesses our uncertainties and concerns so that growth can take place. Hope also bids us live fully in the present, giving our all to the life of the fami-

ly, for the best way to prepare a solid future is to live well in the present. 220. This process occurs in various stages that call for generosity and sacrifice. The first powerful feelings of attraction give way to the realization

that the other is now a part of my life. The pleasure of belonging to one another leads to seeing life as a common project, putting the other’s happiness ahead of my own, and realizing with joy that this marriage enriches society. As love matures, it also learns to “negotiate”. Far from anything selfish or calculating, such negotiation is an exer-cise of mutual love, an interplay of give and take, for the good of the family. At each new stage of married life, there is a need to sit down and renegotiate agreements, so that there will be no winners and losers, but rather two win-ners. In the home, decisions cannot be made unilaterally, since each spouse shares responsibility for the family; yet each home is unique and each marriage will find an ar-rangement that works best.

Dearly beloved, On this third Sunday of the Lent, we read

the gospel of Jesus healing the haemorrhaging woman. Moved by her faith, the woman dared to touch Jesus know-ing that He is able to heal her with one simple touch of the

hem of his garment. In many ways, we are like this haemorrhaging woman: as

individuals, as a community, and as a church. We are bleeding and suffering because of our sins, our selfishness, our division and our mistakes. We are bleeding because we

do not always live up to our role as true witnesses to Christ, to His love, His mercy and His compassion. If we seek Him with the faith of that

woman, He is offering us much more than just the hem of his garment. When we accept to be “touched” by His Living Word and His Body and Blood in the Eu-charist, we can be transformed. We can also be healed. Faith and healing are necessary for us now, as a Church, especially as we read the news of Cardinal George Pell’s conviction and sentencing. This case has no doubt shocked many of us across Australia and all over the world. We believe that everyone should be equal under the law, and we respect the Australian legal system. As the legal process is not yet complete, we will not draw any conclu-sions. We pray that justice is served and that the truth is upheld. At the forefront of our thoughts and in our prayers are the individuals who have suffered from abuse and their families. We pray for them and commit ourselves to doing everything possible to help them heal and to ensure that the Church is a safe place for all, especially the young and the vulnerable. The courage and audacity of the woman always strike me in this passage of the Bible. She was considered unclean and was ostracized from society. Yet, she did not lose hope or faith. In her example, we need to get out of our comfort zones, and come to Jesus, and allow him to heal us and make us whole again.
