Outline

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim for sustained,

inclusive economic growth that can provide full and productive

employment, and decent work for all by increasing productivity

through Innovation, entrepreneurship and job creation

Two Dedicated Goals:

Goal 8. Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable

economic growth, full and productive employment and decent

work for all

Goal 9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and

sustainable industrialization and foster innovation

Sustainable development Goals and Economic growth

• GDP indicator for monitoring economic

growth remains very important and

central based on international statistical

standards

• Need to address People Planet

Partnership

• Add the sustainable Inclusive dimensions

• More detailed, comprehensive coverage,

better estimation,

• Expand to social and environment satellite

accounts

GDP measure for growth

• Growth provides work for people who will have the

means to tackle poverty, to be empowered as

minorities by being inclusive, and protect our

environment if jobs are green in a green economy.

social and environmental data

• Integrated Economic Statistics

• Economic Surveys: Adapt/Update economic surveys

redesign questionnaires to get information on

employment and material use

•Countries should be able to report on SDGs 8 and 9

Data are more readily available that other indictors

•Improve infrastructure as per recommendations in

previous slide

•Goals 8 and 17 should be reported on by countries

for 2016
