Professional Experience

DePAUL UNIVERSITY April 2012 – University Librarian Responsibilities include: providing vision and leadership for strategic planning and policy direction in the areas of library services, collections, information technology, facilities, and human resources; management of the libraries' fiscal and human resources and for assessment, communications, and advancement activities; and representing the libraries within the University and as a member of regional and national groups, including the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI), the Catholic Research Resources Alliance (CRRA), and Chicago Collections. In FY14, the DePaul University Libraries were comprised of the John T. Richardson Library, the Loop Library, and embedded library service programs at each of DePaul University’s suburban campuses, with an annual budget of approximately $10 million and a staff complement of over 75 FTE. Major accomplishments include providing leadership for:

renovating the John T. Richardson Library, including the $4.5-million renovation of the Richardson Library Information Commons and associated service programs;

establishing undergraduate learning goals in information literacy and the use of special collections in undergraduate education;

developing mission-specific digital collections, including the DePaul Heritage Collections;

designing collaborative service programs, including the Learning Commons and Scholar’s Lab;

integrating library service programs into university-wide efforts aimed at promoting recruitment and retention of undergraduate students;

promoting innovative community engagement programs in support of university strategic goals, including with the Chicago History Museum, Chicago Public Library, Chicago community colleges, and Chicago Catholic schools;

developing the library strategic plan (2012-2018);

establishing the DePaul University Library as one of the first “e-only” members of the Federal Depository Library Program;

developing and implementing new strategies for library engagement with university communications and advancement programs; and

DePaul engagement with the Chicago Collections consortium, including the establishment of public programs, exhibitions, and the Explore Chicago Collections digital portal.

Library/IT Fee advisory program, including allocation of more than $10,000,000 in project funding from this campus-wide program

UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS July 2004 – September 2006 Assistant Dean of Libraries for Information & Instructional Services Responsibilities included: providing leadership for library public services as part of a campus-wide Information Services Division that includes Information Technology, and Network & Telecommunications Services; overseeing planning, budget and personnel activities across 6 campus libraries (~100 FTE); overseeing the development, delivery, and assessment of reference, instruction, circulation, interlibrary loan and document delivery, technology training, and distance library services; collaborating with faculty and campus partners in the Center for Teaching Excellence, Division of Student Success, and Instructional Development and Support on integration and assessment of information and technology literacy instruction as part of KU programs and instructional initiatives.
