Shuffling Clock MultiplierKit Builder's Guide for CB v!"#"$

RCD and SCMThis guide is for building a Rotating Clock Divider (RCD) or Shuffling Clock Multiplier (SCM) from

the 4ms kit. The circuits are nearl identical! e"cept for some resistors (e"plained in Step #). $lso!

there%s different color &'Ds and faceplate graphics! and the firmare on the $TM'$#*+ chip isdifferent.

    Tools Needed:

    Soldering iron

    ,lush snips

    -eedlenose pliers

Get comfortable, get all your tools together, take a deep breath... and enjoy!

Step 1: Resistorsnsert and solder the resistors. $fter soldering! snip the leads nearl flush to the /C0 (ou%ll be snipping

the leads flush on all the components after soldering)

The SCM has 1 resistors (see photo belo)

    470 ohm x 3 (yellow purple brown)

    10k x 1 (brown black orange)

    100k x 1 (brown black yellow) 470k x 4 (yellow purple yellow)

    The 9 SCM ress!ors

The RCD is the same! e"cept there are onl to 423k resistors. nstead! one is a umper! and one is

    completel omitted. (see photo belo)

Step 2: Capacitors, Diodes, Crystal Resonator, Voltage RegulatorCareful! Many of these components must be orientated correctly before soldering!

nsert and solder the + diodes.

There%s a hite or black band oneach diode that must go toards

the line on the /C0 (the arro on

the /C0 points toards the band).

nsert and solder the 2+35 voltage regulator and the #*M67 crstal resonator. The resonator can go in

either a! but the 2+35 must bend over so that the black face ith te"t is pointed up (see photo above).

nsert and solder the 5 small capacitors. The can go in either a8

    100p (or 101) x 1

    330p (or 331) x 1

    1000p (or 10) x

    021u (or 104) x 1

nsert and solder the to #33u, caps. 9ne side of the cap is

marked ith a hite stripe8 this is the negative and it goes in

the round hole. The positive lead is longer! and it goes in thes:uare hole.o!e one o !he 100u caps mus! ben$ o5er !he

    10k 108pn array x (one may be marke$ 4k7 on !he boar$, bu! use a 10k array)

Step 4: C Soc!ets, "eader pins, and Transistorsnsert and solder the to #4;pin C sockets. The notch in the sockets points toards the top of theboard (there is a matching notch dran on the /C0! too).

nsert and solder the + transistors! making sure the flat side faces the edge of the board (toards theacks).

nsert and solder the header pins (to #*;pin headers! one

left). ?ust bend it back and forth once or tice and itshould break off easil.

nsert the acks into the /C0! but do notsolder them et@

&oosel place the faceplate on the acks!making sure the top to empt holes go

toards the top of the /C0.

/ut the nuts on the acks loosel! and then goback and tighten them all don. To avoid

scratching the faceplate! use a nut driver

tool! or pliers ith the tips rapped inmasking tape.

-o solder the acks! and snip the tips of

the leads flush ith the /C0.

Step (: S)all *ac!sMount the to small acks into the to top holes on the faceplate. 9rient them so that the ground tab is

pointing up and the spring is at the bottom.

0end the tab over on the left ack (FRotateB) sothat it hits the pad on the /C0. Solder it to the pad.

ou ma snip the ground tab off if ou ish! as thephoto shos.

Solder to ires from the right ack (FResetB on

the RCD! or FSlipB on the SCM) to the CE< and

?$C>SG pads on the /C0. The signal tab (loer)

goes to CE< and the sitch tab (upper) goes to?$C>SG.

Hse some of the leads ou snipped off after

soldering the resistors or capacitors in earlier steps.

resistor arras. Make sure the notch on the chip points toards the top of the unit. ou alread testedour &'Ds! but check to make sure the have not been bent and are shorting to the board. Check our
