Protocol RemindersAs we begin the new quarter, it is very important that we continue to follow the protocols from the Health Department and CDC to keep our school safe and healthy. We have done a great job so far, but we still have a challenging road ahead. I hope we can continue to work together to mitigate the spread of any sickness in our school community.

Staying Home from SchoolIf a student stays home due to illness, then the following protocol should be followed.

1. Notify the office that your child will be absent, please give the reason for the absence.

2. The child may return to school if they have a doctor’s note and have been symptom/fever free for at least 72 hours OR have a negative COVID test result and have been symptom/fever free for at least 72 hours OR have isolated for 10 days and have been symptom/fever free for at least 72 hours.

3. Students can access Google Classroom to complete work while they are out of school.

We understand that students may stay home because they are not feeling well, but not necessarily having specific COVID symptoms. Unfortunately with so many unknowns to COVID, we must follow this same protocol for any child who stays home sick. We want to take every precaution necessary to keep our school community healthy and safe. We ask for your cooperation and support in this matter.

Symptoms of COVID-19 (Does not include all possible symptoms) •Temperature 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher (or school board policy if threshold is lower) • Sore throat • New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (for students with chronic allergic/ asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline) • Diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain • New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever • New loss of taste or smell

2021-2022 School CalendarIt is hard to believe we are already working on the 2021-2022 school calendar. As a Deanery, all of the Catholic schools have agreed to the same start and end date, and the same fall and spring breaks. Below are the major days off for next school year.

Adopt a Seminarian ProjectAs we work to promote vocations in our Catholic schools, the Vocations Office and the Office of Catholic Schools have teamed together to establish the “Adopt a Seminarian” Program. Each Catholic School has been assigned a seminarian. This year we will be adopting Tyler Huber. We will be praying for Tyler throughout the school year and will do special projects for him. Our hope is that Tyler will have the opportunity to come and visit with the kids before the end of the year.

Year in Seminary: Second Theology

Birthday: March 7

Home Parish: St. Mary’s of the Knobs

Flu ShotAccording to the CDC, getting a flu vaccine is more important than ever during 2020-2021 to protect yourself, your family and your community from flu. A flu vaccine this season can also help reduce the burden on our healthcare systems responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and save medical resources for care of COVID-19 patients. September and October are good times to get a flu vaccine.

Veteran’s DayThis year to honor Veteran’s Day we will be collecting items for the 1163rd MCAS Kentucky Army National Guard. This group is currently stationed in Poland. Please see the attached flyer for items that we are collecting this year. Please show your support and send in items to support our Veterans.

Red Ribbon WeekStudents are getting ready for Red Ribbon Week® 2020 – this year’s theme is: Be Happy. Be Brave. Drug Free. At school, students will engage in activities that promote a drug free and healthy lifestyle.

DID YOU KNOW? Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t; yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations. Red Ribbon Week® (October 26-30), the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, is your opportunity to get the ongoing conversation started.

Please see the Red Ribbon Flyer to see how our SAS Bears will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week beginning on Monday, October 26.

Yearbook Cover ContestThis year, we are having a Yearbook Cover Contest. SAS students who are interested will get a chance to show off their artistic side by creating the cover of our 2020-2021 yearbook! They will need to incorporate in some way the theme, "One Team" along with our school name and the school year (St. Anthony School - 2020-2021). They may use any medium they wish (crayon, colored pencil, paint, digital, etc.) The turn in date is NO LATER than Friday, October 30th. If your child is interested, please see Mrs. Harrington if they need paper or have any questions. Mrs. Duggins is available if they have any art questions or need to use supplies.

Mask UpStudents have done a terrific job of coming to school with a mask. A mask helps prevent a person who is sick from spreading the virus to others. Appropriate and consistent use of masks is most important when students, teachers, and staff are indoors and when social distancing is difficult to implement or maintain.

Now more than ever, it is important that we reiterate the proper way to wear the mask. Please make sure your child has the proper sized mask; the mask should fit snugly and cover the bridge of the nose and stretch under the chin. The mask should stay in place and not fall off of the nose. Many students are wearing the same mask each day and the mask are stretching out and not fitting properly. We must continue to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by doing our part and properly wearing a mask. Attached you will find a Mask 101 resource for guidance on wearing, storing and cleaning mask.

Keeping Accounts CurrentAs the end of the 1st quarter quickly approaches, it is very important that all accounts are kept up to date. Please send in any payments you may have for lunch, after school care, and/or tuition. If you have an questions regarding accounts, please contact Mrs. Emily Fisher.

Lunch AccountsWe are so happy that all students are given the opportunity to receive free lunch through Christmas Break. Please remember that any previous balance must be paid and kept up to date. Also, students will be charged for extra entrees/drinks, apple juice, and water. Lunch bills are sent home on a weekly basis and payment should be sent in as soon as possible. Students will not be allowed to receive any type of “extra” if lunch bills are not kept current.
